    Good Morning Everyone!!!!!!!!!!

Just a quick hello and how are you to ALL of you!!  It is almost time to get Mom up and about. I slept later than usual.....6AM!!  That is better than being wide awake at 4 AM!! LOL

I did okay yesterday and ate alot of veggies, BUT caught myself getting into the icing bowl that was left over in the refrig.....LOL  I decided to just throw it out, so I wouldn't be tempted....LOL  I have veggie soup in the refrig, which will last me awhile.    I am glad we are having a Challenge as I need it to get back on track.  I was much thinner last summer due to the blocked salvia gland and not being able to eat right and then quitting smoking, so I do have maybe 10-15 pounds to lose.

The Egg lady is coming this AM with farm fresh eggs.  I eat alot of eggs.  They fill me up and I feel good on them.  I need to finish up cleaning too.

Doris, sorry you still have all that smoke....gosh that must be so hard on you and DH.   I wish I could give you some zucchini. Mine are coming in and I am getting alot of them.  I will start baking bread and freezing it for winter and holidays.

      Check back later

    Mary

Doris – I love strawberries.  I usually have one for breakfast each day, but today I'm having cantaloupe.  I just don't understand my neighbor and her blower.  But I guess I'll have to learn to live with it or else say something.  The zucchini omelet sounds good and what a great way to get extra veggies.

Robin – You made good eating choices yesterday and to not eat any of the fresh baked cookies took a lot of willpower.  I was at the grocery store the other day and passed the bakery and I could smell fresh baked cookies.  They smelled so good.

Mary – That was good of you to throw the icing bowl away.  I've had to do that with some things, too.

It is another beautiful day here today.  They are calling for rain overnight tonight.

Hey to everyone.  I just wanted to pop in and say Hi!!!!!  Everything is OK here.  I have been feeling a bit sluggish and have desided to see if I can get in with the kids doctor seems how he is a family doctor!!!!  I haven't gone to the doctor sense my son was my daughter's age so about....7 years ago!!!!!  And that wasn't even for your normal testing!!!  I'm horrible.  My husband seems do be doing a lot better now that he has been watching what he is eating.  He isn't sleeping as much and isn't feeling blah all the time now.  And I think he is able to tell when he needs to eat something.  but what he doesn't understand is that he needs to lower his portions!!!!!  But all in do time I guess.

Hope everyone has a great day!

I have been watching something so cute.  The little red throated hummingbird is sitting on a chair on our deck, staying dry from the rain.  But he also has another purpose and that is to chase the other little hummers away so they can not eat.  I just love those little hummers and think they are so precious.  Mom walked to the window to see the hummer sitting on a chair and stood there watching him for quite awhile.  I am glad we have two feeders up for them, so the other birds can eat....LOL

Joyce, thank you for the list of things to do instead of eating.  I think that list could be applied to any addiction.

I have been buying strawberries and blueberries and mixing them together and serve them with cool whip....fat free.  I just love it.  I just heard on the news that blueberries are one of the best fruits for a person to eat...very high in antioxidents.  The nutritionist said to eat a cup of them each day before you take your multi vitamin.

Time to start dusting or doing something wonderful I guess.

    Hugs,

    Mary

HI Jenn!! We were typing at the same time!!!  I am glad your DH is feeling better.  My DH sleeps alot now, but he always did.  He is back in bed after breakfast, then naps in the afternoon and is in bed by 7:30 PM....then wide awake at 4 am and can't get back to sleep.  We all need to watch portions and I find that hard to do sometimes depending on what I am eating and how much I like it.  I am feeling good about getting myself back on track after quitting smoking.

I hope you feel better too and can see the doctor today!!!

    Hugs,

    Good morning, everyone.

Cool morning, and another nice day for us.

MARY, I have thrown many a cake or other sweet thing out. We had anniversary cake left and sent it home with DD#2. Farm fresh eggs are so good. But, I find I do better with Egg Beaters, regular eggs bother my system. I can eat just the whites. I always have blueberries on hand, and they are a good price, now. I am like DORIS, I do better with Lite Cool-Whip than the SF. Our hummers do the same thing, they fight over the feeder.

Love your list, JOYCE. I had 1/2 banana and wheat toast for breakfast. When do your portions increase?

JENN, any start and follow thru is good. And, things get easier as they become routine. The doctor app't. sounds like a good idea.

DORIS, it's good you and DH like zucchini. I only like it in quick bread. I do like a veggie frittata, but not too often due to the shredded potatoes in it. I make lots of desserts with the Lite Cool-Whip.

Hi to MARGE having a good time with her sister. No weight gain on vacation, good for you.

DEB, we have VBS next week, so will probably go to the trailer in a couple of weeks. All our insurance is with The Hartford thru AARP, too. It has saved us lots of money.

SANDY, not easy to give up something you like, but your health and well being should be first. Bet you will be back to the cards, soon.

I'm helping Russell hobble around the house. He wrenched his knee or it could be the gout acting up. Now, he is rolling around on an office chair. He is not happy being tied down.

    Have a good day.

Morning All, Just a note before getting my day started.   I woke up during the night and couldn't go back to sleep so read awhile so ended up sleeping in till 7:00 but the dogs wouldn't leave me alone so finally got up.

Barb had already left to go watch her step granddaughter show her pig at the fair so I showered and got ready for what ever the day brings.   We are going to the fair this afternoon cause it is senior day.     I never know where I will end up, it is so differant than being home with nothing to do except go to the Senior Center.

Barb made a great stew last night. Paul went out and picked some of the few veggies that are ready in the garden and all of that was in there, hope we have it for left overs tonight.

Yesterday I went and got my eyebrows waxed and may go in tomorrow and get a manicure as I have never had one, my nails are nice right now and people ask if they are real so think I might get them done for the reunion.    I have never had nails till a few years ago they were always short and chipped and I think it was cleaning so much with the harsh cleaners but now I don;t have my hands in water so much .

Joyce thanks for the list, I will copy it when I get home as I will ned to get serious about losing but now I don't care and infact when I get off here i am going to the bakery as Barb ask them to make a rasberry pastry for today so am going to pick some up.

The weather has warmed a little today as the wind has stopped blowing so it should be perfect for the fair it is usually so hot there.

Tomorrow will be garage sales and then start cooking for the reunion on Saturday.

I better get up to the bakery so will check back later.    Marge

Re: DC Conversation - Thursday, July 24

    Greetings all.

Well, hauke, you asked about goals......since the ulitmate goal is 50#s-someday, I think I'll go for 15# each half.

Robin, keeping hands busy in the evenings is always a good thing.  Especially since I tend to be a "grazer" in the evenings on my days off.  One year, I crocheted mittens and hats for children and then donated them, sometimes, altho not recently, I've knitted or crocheted afghans.  Reading and computer play doesn't work as I still can stuff my face.

Mary, what a cute story about the hummers!  Danny gets alot of enjoyment watching them fight over the feeder.  Yesterday on the way to workout, I saw a fox on the side of the road about 1/2 mi from the house.  I usually only see them scurry up the hill at night.  First daytime sighting.  So neat to watch all the wild aniamals.  I really try to limit my egg intake, and use substitute in baking.

Joyce, I'm glad you are enjoying a nice day.  It is just perfect out there for me.  Thanks for posting the list of options to eating.  So much can be done that is productive.

Jenn, I'm glad your dh is feeling better.  So much of this disease is just taking care.  Have you tried switching to smaller plates?  We use a salad plate as much as we can, and when I buy new plates, I make sure they are not the 10" ones.   You should definitely head to the Dr for a complete check-up.  Lots of people depend on you being in top form.

Nancy, that is too bad that Russell is in pain again.  But, at least the desk chair makes him somewhat mobil.

Marge, sure sounds like you are enjoying your vacation.  By all means, have a manicure for the reunion-you deserve it.  Someday, I'd like to get a manicure and a pedicure, but it is low on the priority list.  Hmmmm  maybe instead of the face lift Robin is using for her reward, I should set the m&p for mine.  Great idea!!!LOL

We were busy at work last night, but I was sure ready for my shift to be over.  My right knee started acting up, and by the time it was time to come home, I was hobbling pretty good.  My leg was swollen from below my knee all the way to my foot!  Didn't sleep reall well, but it sure felt better this morning.  I did my workout figuring that if it was arthritis, working out would be the best thing for it, and if it was something eles, how much worse could it get?  Feels OK after the workout, but we'll see how work goes.  On the way home from working out, I stopped at the home of one of the workout gals, and picked up a couple of summer and zucchini.  She had left some by the road with a free sign on them, and when she got home, not only were the squash gone, but so was the sign!!!LOL

Well, time for a shower and then off to work.  Later all.

    Deb

    Hey friends,

My lunch with my best friend had to be canceled.  She felt so bad, but it is just life.  It is probably better that we didn't go out, because I have had some tough stomach problems.  I think it may be because I went back on iron tablets to please my doctor.  He keeps saying I am anemic, but I have tried every kind of iron supplement known to man.  They all do me in.  And yes, I take them with a meal, even.  My gastro doctor told me I am the victim of constant spasms in my colon.
When you are down to nothing...God is up to something.

Whoops, sorry.  The little saying was supposed to go to the bottom.  I will work on it.

I have to take a tablet, for the spasms, about 30 minutes before each meal.  It just doesn't help when I am also taking iron.  My DH wanted me to go to the mall to get a birthday gift for my dad's 78th next week.  I just can't go anywhere with my tummy acting like it is.

My oldest DD is bringing her two little girls to us in the morning.  We will have them all day and overnight.  It will be hard because of mine and my DH's physical disabilities.  They are little sweeties, though, so hopefully it'll be fun.  One is 8 and one is 4.  I've had the 8 yr. old overnight before, but not the younger one.  I'll let everyone know tomorrow, how it is going.

I do know I'll need all the prayers I can get.

To everyone:  Have a great evening.

Evening everyone. I'm here for my torcher shift LOL. The last one I worked was murder so I'm crossing my fingers for a much more uneventful evening. I feel that this is the calm before the storm as it's now after 5pm, clinic is closed an that means a rush to the ER for us to fix things that have been bothering people all day. It's so frustrating at times when someone has had a cough or feeling rough for a couple days and waits until after the clinic closes because they won't have to pay a co-pay for a ER visit. Sigh......

Robin you sure are an inspiration!! So full of energy for this challenge. Joyce, thanks for the list. I've copied it and will post it in a couple of places. Hauke, as always you too are so supportive. As far as my goals...... hmmmmmmm. I've been thinking 10-15lbs for October and another 5-10 by Christmas. I've been trying to eat more fruits and veggies. I'll have to make more of an effort. I'm going to try making a menu and sticking to it. Breakfast, lunch and dinner with a couple snacks built in. I've also decided that my main meal will be when I get up so if it's my day off it'll be breakfast. If I've worked the night before it'll probably be dinner. Don't get me wrong, I eat "breakfast" food when I get up no matter what the time LOL. I love breakfast. Anyway, I'm shooting for 1400 cal per day. We'll see. That's the lowest amount of calories I'm suppose to take in. Uff da, it shouldn't be so complicated LOL.

Well, I guess I'd better go get ready for the onslaught LOL. Darla, I'm sorry your tummy is giving you grief.

    Love and Fuzzies!   Michele

    Hi everyone!

Had a minute to finally sit down & check e-mails, etc., so wanted to check in here too! Hope all of you are doing well & staying fairly healthy. I'm trying but am not very successful currently due to stress!

My life has been an emotional roller-coaster this week. As I had reported last week, my step-dad's kids were acting like idiots & had successfully kept my mom & family away from the hospital for a while. Well, after listening to a lot of he-said-she-said's & my mom losing touch with reality (she's bi-polar, no further explanation needed), I took matters into my own hands. Especially after getting a phone call Sunday afternoon from my step-dad, with him in tears over the entire situation. Needless to say, after all was said & done, we're no longer "on the outside" as the saying goes. Things are still tense, with no real meaningful interaction, but are remaining polite. It has to be about him not anyone else right now.

I am sad to say that my step-dad came home yesterday, with hospice, as the doctors state there is nothing more that can be done for him. The cancer is one of the most aggressive you can have & his heart is slowing giving out! The doctors feel that there is very little time left. All we can do is pray that he doesn't suffer (so far he's not had any pain)!

Hope all of you have a wonderful weekend! You are in my prayers always!
