    Healthy Choices 7/24/08

Hello everyone.  Thought I would start us out today.   Maureen, sorry to hear the situation with the ex son-in-law is so nasty.   Kim and Ava are so lucky to have you and DH nearby.   And glad to hear your dr visit was ok, too.

Little Trenton is really cute. Thanks for the photo.  And Barb, that mountain of yours is just so beautiful!!!!   When we lived in Geneva, we could see the Mt. Blanc on a clear day.   And when it was visible, the world seemed so wonderful.

DH is back, and he is just fine.  Except he has the hiccups.  We have tried everything, and they don't stop. They started already 2 days ago.   Drinking vinegar had a temporary effect.   If they don't stop soon, we have to go to the dr.   He is really annoyed!

Ari was cute last night.  We got the idea to heat up the wood-burning sauna stove.   We have one that takes some time and effort to heat, but then it lasts for many hours.    Usually Leo  does this, but Ari was sure he could do it. He diligently tended to it, and it was soooooo hot that I could only be in there a little while.  So Leo had his sauna when he got home, and again this morning, as there was still plenty of heat.

It is 10 am here, and I have already defrosted and cleaned the big chest freezer.  I found one apple pie in there that I had forgotten about, so Leo and Antti are going to save it from being tossed out.   It is in the oven now.    Usually when I make apple pies, I make an extra for the freezer.   Normally the guys keep reminding me that I need to bake it, but they forgot this one, too.

OK, gotta goe on for my next project....don't have anything in mind, so I just have to create one.  lusi

    Re: Healthy Choices 7/24/08

Good morning Lusi good to hear that Leo is home and I bet he really appreciated the hot sauna some day I would still like to put one in here, have plenty of room for one just need to talk DS and DDIL into it. I don’t know if you heard of the farm accident south of Winnebago were Michael Mitchell, 53 and his son Kyle, 20 died in a slurry pit thought you might know the father so sad this type of accident father was overcome by fumes and son went in after him but they both were overcome by toxic gas.

Were are the 2 Pats I haven’t seen either one of them post lately or are they just lurking?

Maureen I am sorry for you and DD with the X’s actions hope things can get straitened out soon. My X SoIL still tries to play fault games by going through the boys to get DD upset looks like it will be a never ending marry-go-round. Yes I count out the crackers and that is what they call one serving I put them in a zip-lock bag for lunch or snack otherwise I would eat the whole box.

Barb I read the article on the fish eating the dead skin off your feet thought it was a little bizarre, think it would tickle and I would end up on the floor laughing my butt off. Hmmm that might not be too bad considering the size of it right now. LOL

Verna I wish I could have some of the muffins I really half to watch what I bake as carbohydrates are my downfall can never eat just one. Prayers going out for your friends DIL it sounds rather bad considering she had it before.

SBB you are doing really good with your walking but I see we both have a problem with what we eat but that is what I like about people posting there menu for the day as it gives me ideas or reminds me of things I should be eating.

    Walked 3.8 miles.

B: Grape-Nuts with 6oz. Skim Milk, 1-slice Rye toast with LF peanut butter, coffee mocha.

    S: 1-jerky stick, grapes.

    L: 1oz. cheese, 24 cheese-its crackers, ¼-cup almonds.

D: Left over Gen. Joes Chicken with rice, sweet potatoes, creamed cucumbers, 8oz Skim Milk.

Water throughout the day with green tea flavoring.

The creamed cucumber mix is really just store bought coleslaw dressing with half/half added to it to make it thinner.

Have a nice day and God bless everyone.

    Viny

Good morning all! Can’t sleep so I’ve had my bath already & am ready for breakfast. It’s just too early to call Colleen as we go out for breakfast on Thursdays.

Lusi, glad to hear Leo is home. I can’t imagine drinking vinegar straight! ICK! Hope those hiccups go away soon. You have been so busy this summer, you need a little ME time! Bet the guys love that lost pie today. LOL

Viny, I’m here! It’s been a busy month here. I’ve been over at my sister’s helping her get card samples made for her convention that is at the end of this month. They have a "swap" so she likes alot of samples to swap with. Sorry to hear that the xsonil still is playing mind games with DD. He needs to accept it’s his fault as he’s the cheater...

Verna, prayers going out for DD & Donna’s DDIL.

Maureen, so glad you are close to Kim at this stressful time of her life... she needs you...

JoLynn, Trenton is so cute! Thanks for sharing the pictures with us. I’m so surprised he’s going on 3? Where has the time gone?

JoAnn, did you have a good time in Amish country yesterday? What good things did you eat there? We like a place called Yoder’s buffet in Arcola, IL. They have the best chicken & desserts, all home made.

My mind is blank right now. Maybe I need to go lay down again?

Dale is coming home today, Lynn’s babysitter’s dad is going back to Iraq so she’s ready to start babysitting again.... I think he’s ready to come home, he’s only been gone 2 weeks. LOL We’ll be going down there in Aug. For Kenny’s birthday. We have to go the week before as I have to be back to work the next week for a big sale we have.... We’ll be taking Brenden, Lynn’s oldest son, back down to her. He’s been at his other grandparents this month, just the next town over. I had him last week but this week has been too hectic to have him over. He’ll be back to school the day after we take him home.... Can’t believe the summer is coming to an end. My garden did terrible this year. The summer squash are dying before they’ve even gotten going. Better luck next year.

Think I’ll call Colleen & get her out of bed now! Later! Pat A

    Re: Healthy Choices 7/24/08

Good morning Lusi, Viny and all to come by today.

DH and I had such a nice time yesterday.  The weather was perfect and comfortable and we even checked out another place to spend a weekend or a couple of week days.  I's called The Inn at Honey Run.  It's a beautiful place and very out of the way secluded.  No two rooms are alike.  www.innathoneyrun.com

Shopping was pretty successful.  I bought a loaf of my favorite muesli bread, some baby Swiss cheese and also some butter cheese, which is just like the imported Havarti, but less expensive,  (got some for Mom too)  cinnamon rolls for Frank, found some 5 inch pot pie pans for Dsis, and some Elderberry Jam for Frank.  He's been in elderberry withdrawl since Smuckers discontinued it due to lack of enough elderberry bushes for their production.

Lusi, so glad to hear that Leo is safely home again.  Did he notice the redecorating you did?  How nice that Ari got the sauna ready for him to enjoy.

Barb and Viny, I saw a story about the "fish pedicure" on the news and it looks gross.  They reported that it's harmless as long as the fish tank is kept clean!  Yuk!!!

Vammie, hope you do make it to Amish country someday.  You would love it.  Oh, I forgot to mention that I bought a box of chocolate truffles while I was there too.  There is a place to buy chocolates and you can go through a walkway with all glass on one side and watch as they make the chocolates.  It smells wonderful in there and I always tease Frank that I think I gain a few pounds just by being in there.  Hope all of your repairs were made yesterday.

Maureen, glad the doctor apmt went pretty well.  My Mom has a heart murmer too and they just watch it and it never has changed.  DH is in a statin and it worked on him so quickly. He did say he thought it made his legs feel a little weak, but not much.  By the way, about the water, he said felt stimulated just hearing about it! LOL  Then later, I caught him in the kitchen singing to the coffee pot.  He'll keep this one going for a while!

Leaving soon fo Mom's, so better get moving along now.  Hope everyone has a nce day today and God bless,  Jo Ann

Hi Pat, glad I checked back.  I seem to always be posting while someone else is too and miss them.  Enjoy lunch out today.  There was a Yoder's where we went too.  It must be a very common name.  We didn't eat there but ate at the Inn at Amish Door instead.  Frank loves the chicken too.  He got the chicken and I got the turkey. We both had the salad bar.  Lots of specialty kinds of things there.  I love the broccoli salad.  We brought home dessesrts, though.

Phone's ringing, It has to be Mom,  back later. Jo Ann

    Re: Healthy Choices 7/24/08

Hi again.  Yes, Viny, I did go to school with Mike Mitchell.  He was in the class one year behind me.   I happened to phone my mother yesterday, and she told me about this.  Awful news.

Leo noticed the cushion covers.   He remembered that I said I was taking it for someone else to do. So he just assumed they had also done the big floor cushion.   He was admiring how that complemented the sofa cushions so nicely, and he was surprised when he found out I did it.   Of course he then asked why I hadn't just done all 8 sofa cushions as well to save money!   He didn't even notice that a square pillow is much different than the cushion shapes and require an upholsterer's tailoring, not to mention a heavier machine than I have.

He didn't notice the kitchen curtains until one of the boys pointed it out.   I'm not bothered by this, as it is all quite normal.

He was supposed to stay home today, but of course went to the office at midday.   No chance of changing a work-a-holic's habits!!!

I, on the other hand, have learned to enjoy being home this summer.   Really sad to think about oging back to work soon.   [:'(]  We have to go out to the cabin this weekend and see that things are in order before he leaves again.   His departure is already on the 1st.   I'm not even going to think about picking all those berries myself.   Looks like it will be a good yeary anyway, and that probably means 150 liters (about 15 buckets)   NO WAY!!!   The two of us can do it in a weekend of really hard work, but I won't do it alone.

Still no call about our car.   Leo phoned them this morning and they said it should be done today. The garage will close in 30 minuts, so maybe it still needs to dry all night.

Ok, off to get a few things done.   lusi

    Re: Healthy Choices 7/24/08

Good Morning everyone.  I just wanted to check in before we left for DH's doctor appt. He is not feeling very well this morning and this is the f -up from hospital visit plus the device check.  I think it's time they give him some answers about the medication.  He may wish I had stayed at home. lol
Viny, what a tragic accident, and to lose two from the same family, Prayers for the family & friends.  Viny, I think sometimes the X's continue to be such a nusiance, especially where there are children involved.  One day those boys will realize what their Dad did to their Mom and they won't be very forgiving.  I'm just sorry she has to go through all this. Viny, I am working on the protein and if Verna stays behind me, I'll do better. I have done really well with the walking this week and most days have far exceeded the 10000 steps or 5 miles.
Lusi, I'm so glad Leo noticed all the work you have accomplished this summer.  I'm sorry he must leave again so soon.  I know the sauna felt good to him and that was nice of Ari to get it ready for his Dad to enjoy.  Wish I were there to help pick your berries.
Pat, good to see you drop in this morning, sorry it was so early, had it been a couple days ago, we could have enjoyed a good visit.  Last night is the first night I've gone to sleep since Thursday of last week.  I read about a vitamin that could help and apparantly it did, I took one last night.
JoAnn, your day yesterday sounds very productive and enjoyable.  It's so relaxing to see all the Amish crafts and food they preserve.  I think I could do my grocery shopping  easier if I lived near one.  Enjoy your day with your Mom.
Verna, so sorry about Deb and DGD.  I hope things settle down soon.  It's so hard for you to see this,  I know you will enjoy your visit to see the DGD & DGGD's Sat.  Don't forget your camera, I know those girls are going to love the dress up clothes.
Maureen, I'm assuming your doctor's appt was ok, but I need to go back and read the last post yesterday.  I'll check that later.
    Until later.....

    Re: Healthy Choices 7/24/08

Good morning...... The sun is shining and it is supposed to get back up into the 90s today. Yesterday the high was about 74 - very pleasant. The yard is looking better after the rain we had Tues afternoon & yesterday morning.

JoAnn, it sounds like you had a wonderful day yesterday. One of the things I remember about the Amish is their beautiful quilts. Did you see any yesterday?

lusi, I sure hope Leo can get rid of those hiccups without having to go to the dr. Has he tried drinking a glass of water while pinching his nose closed? Have you played the sympathy card so that you can get the new furniture, yet? lol

Viny, I need to go back and check your post from the other day - did you say you were getting winter squash out of your garden? Or, did you say yellow squash and I misunderstood you to mean winter squash? Our zucchinis are about 2" long, but, there are lots of them (as usual).

Pat, I was going to ask if you Dale was still down at Lynn’s. I bet she has appreciated having him there. Did you get Colleen out of bed?

Marti, what vitamin are you taking to help you sleep? I can’t get a good night’s sleep unless I take a sleeping pill and I don’t like to do that very often. I hope you get some answers at Joe’s doctor’s appt. today.

Maureen, it sounds like your check up went okay. I hope that you can get something that will help you with the cholesterol. Are you babysitting today? Again, I hope that your exsoil will come to his senses soon and do what is best for Ava.

Okay, I better get back to work.

    Until later...

    JoLynn

Good afternoon. Lusi you sound so happy to have Leo back and how thoughtful of Ari to have the sauna ready. So he noticed the cushions! I think my DH would also go to the office as soon as he got home. My raspberries are doing good this year so I know how you feel about the picking, seems endless.

Viny, I also thought it’s been awhile since we heard from NursePat but I thought maybe she took a trip and I missed the post about it. Well, here’s the other Pat now!

Pat, you had your hands full helping your sister and Lynn. Too bad about your garden, was it too wet? How old is the Capt?

JoAnn, that inn sounds wonderful, I’m going to check out the website as soon as I finish this. I think Yoder is a very common Amish name.

Marti, I hope all goes well at the doctor and you get some answers.

I can’t even remember yesterday so here is today so far>

B: oatmeal w/ Fibersure in it to lower the points to 2

         1 small slice coffee cake

S: 1 bag WW pretzel thins 2 pts

L: will be 0 point Progresso soup w/ a Boca Burger crumbled in 2 pts

    Not sure about dinner

I have a massage scheduled at 1:40 so I’ll take my lunch break then.

    Have a good one, Sue

Jolynn,  the vitamin is Melatonin 3mg.  I read an article about this and then did some research, it did work last night, but maybe I was so slept deprieved, I would have slept anyway.

Joe's appt. was not good news.  He is to be admitted to the hospital Monday AM, they are to replace the 4 year old device and do another aflutter ablation, move the lead  wire on the device to another part of the heart.  Not good news and we were both upset but as he said, when God gets ready for me I'll go. Randy is bringing the baby up this weekend and I hope this takes his mind off himself.  Just remember him.

Today is wonderful weather, high 80's and I have lots I need to do, but just not in the mood, Joe is not eating well so he mentioned going out tonight and if he will eat better, I'll just do it and not be too concerned about what I'm eating.

Marti, I will continue to keep Joe (and you) in my prayers. I'm glad Randy and Randi Jo are coming up this weekend - it will be good for all of you. And, you are certainly right about going out to dinner tonight. Whatever it will take to get him to eat; he needs his strength. How long will he have to be in the hospital? Thanks for the info on Melatonin; I had heard about that before and wondered if that was what you were talking about.

Sue, will you be able to get much work done after having that massage? I think I would be so relaxed after having one, that I wouldn't be able to go back to work. Enjoy it. It sounds heavenly right about now.

    Later...

    Good afternoon friends,

It’s been busy today. My PT came this morning.

My friend Ruthie brought lunch (pizza) and stayed to visit.

At three the nurse came to check me out. My blood pressure is still running higher then we like.

Marti I am sorry Joe isn’t feeling well and will keep you both in my prayers.

DD just came home sick so I will make this short.

    Yesterday’s menu

B- English muffin with butter and jelly, Coffee with milk

    S – Grapes

Lunch _ Last of the shrimp salad

    S- V-8 juice

D – leftover steak with onions and mushroom and corn.

S -1 scoop vanilla ice cream with caramel sauce

    Water throughout the day

LOL  My ODGD's last name is Yoder. Once when we were in PA we brought home a shopping bag with a few items from a big market for him. We asked if he had relatives there.I also order Yoder Pop Corn for him once.

Oh Marti, I am so sorry it wasn't better news for Joe at the doctor. I will definitley be thinking of you both on Monday and I'm sure the weekend visit will take your minds off it for a while. It's good he wants to go out to eat, that may tempt him to eat more. Maybe a buffet would be good, he could try lots of things.

My massage was great, I';m back at my desk now.

Where's Verna today? Did she get permission to be gone? lol

Shirley, are you drinking the low sodium V-8? If not, I'm wondering if that could be part of the reason why you are having trouble with your bp being high. Just a thought.  I'm sorry your daughter isn't feeling well. I hope it isn't anything too serious.

    Until later...
