New study says cell phone use causes brain cancer.

I wonder what other factors were considered in this particular study.  I don't believe it is usually just one factor or object that causes cancer, that many factors and combinations may contribute to and cause the disease.

So, based on this new study, or the other 13 studies that claim to conclude cell phone use causes brain cancer, would you stop using a cell phone?

    Your thoughts?

Living causes cancer. No definitive causation for cancer has ever been determined no matter what any of these "shot in the dark" studies say.

I started working for a cell phone company in 1990. The cell phone industry and medical industry have been going back and forth about this for years. I don't use my cell phone very much and don't see a need to stop using it. I know lots of people who have been using them daily for 20 years and don't have cancer.

I think this is really funny! "A driving force behind the memo was Devra Lee Davis(same as shown on the news tape),the director of the university's center for environmental oncology. "The question is do you want to play Russian roulette with your brain," she said in an interview that she did from her CELLPHONE.I don't know that cellphones are dangerous. But i don't know that they are safe." Every once in a while someone comes along and starts in on the "eletromagnetic radiation" and its effects on humans, right down to and including your microwave....................Oh, the quotes are from an AP article in the Boston Globe.

How true this is, PG!   I always want to know "who did the study and who is paying them to do the study?"  One day salt is bad for you...the next it's good.  Same with eggs, and milk, and coffee for cripes sake.

As an X File fan my motto (concerning these things) is usually: Trust No One.   People are still smoking and eating bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwiches, right?

I've lost 6 cats and 1 dog to cancer.   I also have one cat who's a survivor.  As far as I know... none of them ever used my cell phone.    When we lost our last I asked the vet why so many animals are getting cancer.  Here's what he said.   "Well...you live on Long Island, right?"   BTW...shortly after that chat  he found out that he had cancer...he's a survivor too.

When I was younger we hardly ever heard of anyone getting cancer.   Today there isn't one single person who doesn't either have some type of cancer or know someone who does....not one person!   How I miss the good old days.

If we have the scientific knowledge to combat this why, in the name of sanity and reason, would anyone object to getting on with it?

Oh yeah, I'll still use my cell phone.   I only use it for emergencies anyway.  Who can find a pay phone anymore?  If you do...does it work?

That story was here a few years back, then they said, No.  Now, they are saying yes again. *sigh*

It does concern me. I don't use it much, but, I do use it when I am out and need to ask someone something.  I'm not like most I see, with one constantly attached to their ear.  I would worry about that.

I can just here all the lawyers gearing up, too.

And, wondering about the cell towers. They told us, the wattage is so low, no worry at all.

Widdle, what is in Long Island, that is so dangerous?

Hi Catmint!  I'm not really sure my self.  But, I know we have one of the highest rates of breast cancer here.  4 of my female cats had it and one male.

What I do know is everyone wants a beautiful lawn.  Therefore everyone has to dump pesticides all over the place to kill the so called weeds,  insects,  and other unwanted pests.   We have cut down most of our natural habitats and replaced them with BIG condo's and buildings...more poison, more garbage, less forest.   Car oil and other crap is dumped into our rivers and the ocean.  The county also sprays for mosquitoes.  They're tried that for the gyspy moths and wiped out the beautiful lunar moth and butterflies too...and the bats.

We're breathing, eating, and drinking toxins all the time...IMO.

What is it that's so dangerous here?  Greedy and careless humans!!

Widdle, isn't it also because so much of Long Island is built on landfills that contain old toxic waste and hazardous chemicals?  I remember reading about it when it was a hot topic.  We have similar pockets here in NJ, where manufacturing waste and toxins were never properly disposed of (or shouldn't have been used to begin with), the sites became housing developments and the result is excesssively high and increasing rates of cancer and genetic disorders - from the water and soil.

It's interesting to me that these 'new' publicized studies seldom talk about the added influence of household and garden chemicals, or the toxic chemical waste spewed into the air by cars and office buildings, etc.  Cell phones, indeed, lol!

That's right, Labrat!  I have a friend who was thinking about selling her house and moving into one of the condo's a few years back.  A mutual friend, who helped build some of these places, told her he'd never live in one of the developments he helped build.  He said you don't want to know what those homes are sitting on top of.  I must have blocked that out like the good Long Islander I am.  ;(

    Hi labrat,

I have a phone phobia and can't stand to talk on the phone. Don't own a cell phone and this gives me another reason not to get one!

Same here, s-w.  I don't go that far and have gotten along without one all these years.  I appreciate the quiet when I am out and about.  In a real emergency, someone would be glad to come and help me out I am sure.

How true.  I must get calls from half a dozen crackpots a year wanting to know how close someone can safely live to a substation.  I always tell them the best I can do, at $170 an hour, is send a guy out with an EMF meter.  He'll give you the results and it's your job to figure out what they mean.  Then they hang up!
