I asked this a long time ago about changing a file

anyone want to help me?  lol  I am trying to find a free way to change a tiff file to a jpg.  I don't have a bunch of photos to do this with so I don't want to buy a program to do it.  Only one photo I scanned through my printer.  UGH, everything i find claims it is free but you need to pay.

It would probably be a lot simpler to scan the photo again and save it as a jpg. There should be a drop down option to save it in different formats after the photo scans. I just checked my scanner and I have different options though I guess it could vary with different scanners.

Why can't you just select the photo & do "save as" - change the name & the file ending?

All you can do is try it - usually it is.

Sorry for butting in here. What program do you use to view your pictures? You should be able to go to "Save As" and chose the format from a drop down menu. Sometimes, just changing the extension works too, eg: .tif to .jpg.  If you want to post your pictures on line .jpg is great, but every time you open a .jpg file it loses some of its information, so if you need to keep your pictures for posterity you should save them in .tif or .eps format. Dont' know if this helped at all, but there it is! :)

Edit: If you don't have a picture viewer there is a free one you can dowload: it's called IrfanView and there are tons of sites you can download it from. You can change the extension, resize, lighten, darken and edit your pictures.Get IrfanView 4.0

Try the "save as", Dis, but depending on what you're using, it might not let you convert it.
