    Canadian Corner 25/07/08

    Good Morning CC Friends

Nice morning, but going to start and warm up. The last 2 days have been so nice I could take those kinda days all summer.

The crew working on our balconies were fired and a new crew started yesterday and they are going great guns. Poured 3 balconies and knocked three out including mine, these guys mean business. Pretty scary when I pull the drapes open and look out and see the ground below me. I think we will get a better job done, the other crew scratched windows and the cement is extremely rough. I have covered my frames and windows so I'm not worried about that and I put carpet down. This crew is Spanish and their wives are here with them also. They work later too than the other crew. So this makes me very happy that I will not be waiting forever to have my balcony back.

I was in the kitchen when they were knocking mine down and the clock fell off the wall and the floor was vibrating. Thank goodness I boxed everything else.

Cathy you are really into the canning. I love beets, so you keep the tops and I'll take the beets. LOL

Yooper - good to see you back,. too bad you have not found a place to settle in, but best you take the time to find exactly what you want. Happy to hear Tucker travels so wwll, Zoey would not at all. This morning she has to go for her yearly shots so with everything in such chaos in the apt. boxes all over good luck finding her.

Hope you all have a great day.

Ahhh cooler temperatures and progress on the balcony---wht more could you ask for Crea?  I know, an easytime finding Zoey.  Good luck.

THere's noticable progress on my roof too.  Good thing yesterday went well????-Just a broken bedroom window pane   GRRRRR    They won't be back until Tues to finish the house and then there's the garage yet.   It will get done.

It promises to be a busy day doing market prep.  We are going to try a neighbour young daughter to assist with some of the jobbies this morning.  Will see how that goes.  First summer jobs are always fun.

Better scoot,  I've got 3 loads of laundry to fold.  Bad habits creeping in c_oo_kie.  See how you inflence from afar?       Pat

Good Morning Crea , Pat and Friends,

Yes, it nice out right now we have the windows open, but it will get hot again later.

Working this morning and right after getting my haircut.

Crea, happy to hear about the new crew, sounds like they are workers and will get the job done a lot quicker then the other crew.  I know you will have lots of cleaning to do when it is all done, but in the outcome you will have a brand new balcony to enjoy for years to come.

Not much else going on here, we are waiting for a responds on the counter offer.

Yooper, what are your plans now? Will you continue to look?

Good morning Crea, Pat, and CC friends

yesterday was a busy one, i did not even get a chance to relax and post. DH was stuck indoors due to the severe storms, so he vaccumed the whole house. good job too. think i will keep him!!  we had some dandy storms, and we saw a funnel cloud.

wedding plans moving along. i am going to check out sobeys today for the bamboo. DIL is going to check with the border regarding bringing them across too. we have been told because there is no dirt, it is ok. i think that is wrong. a plant is a plant. sure do not want any surprises. i would just as soon buy them from a canadian, and not to worry!!

so, my older DD is the matron of honour. just one attendant, and a whack of little kids!! two flower girls, a junior bridesmaid and junior usher....and six wee little guys. my DD loves kids.can ya tell??

we needed to find a dress for the matron of honour, who lives in creas city. poor kid, no family there to watch the babies, so she put one down for a nap, and took the breast fed baby with her to try and find a dress.  even though we were not with her, it was fun. crazy fun. to make a long story short..........

she found a lovely dress, 159. they could order it for the end of august. i saw it online. pretty. so we called the dress shop here, she carried the same dress. 139. but, she said it would be the end of sept.  hmmmmmm......she said this company is famous for late deliveries.  so.....this lady looked in her shop,  told us the order number of a similar dress.....chocolate satin........and DD looked online, loved it.  since it is in stock , she will go for fittings in aug while she is home, and final fitting in sept, when she is home for the bridal shower.  crazy, the internet is just crazy! what would my grandma say about that!!! lol........oh, and this dress is on sale for 100.00~~~ so we are pleased with all that!!

glad to hear you ladies under construction and moving along. it will be so nice to get the jobs done!!!! Pat, i am bad for not folding laundry too.

IF THEY CAN SEND MEN TO THE MOON, WHY CANT THEY DESIGN A WASHER AND DRYER THAT FOLDS LAUNDRY!!!!!!!!!

coffee time.....on the back deck, wish you could join me!

Pat, you must have a very big roof, does it take longer to put on cedar shakes?

What a busy lady you are this time of year, hope it works out with the young girl from the neighbour.

Pat how far do you kids live from you?  How is your DH?

    Have a great day.

YF  we are removing the cedar shakes.  DH installed them 40 some years ago.  They have not taken the prairie sun well at all.  We are replacing them with asphalt..  When we put on the addition years ago we couldn't get cedar so no the entire house will match.  The house is a big century old 2 1/2 story brick one.  The main roofer is having problems keeping crew who will venture up that high.   The rains haven't helped the situation either.  I must say they are doing a good job when they're here except for the damages!!

They are actually here now, making sure things are well secures so he can comfortably leave to a wedding in Calgary.  I was surprised to hear them come in and start hammering.

Pat - wow busy time as usual around your place. I hope the workers replace your window and not like the crew we had.

Good job I'm not your summer help, I'd be eating more than what I was sending to market. Beans, cuc's, bread I'd be into it. LOL.

YF - hope you hear about the house soon - wonder what else they will come with that they would like you to leave. LMBO - they are way too strange.

Katie - Holy Moly alot of youngsters in that wedding party. Do they have to rent or buy the outfits for them? Is DD's dress something she can wear after? You are one busy gal these days. Hopefully you can get what you want here rather than the US. As you say, a plant is a plant and may pruchase there and have to leave at the border. Are you doing the food or having it catered?

Pat, your house sounds wonderful. i love old houses. i wish i still had mine.  i am sure the roof will look just fine.

YF, i hope your offer goes the way you are hoping for. what is the closing date?? say hi to andre will ya!!!

Crea, the dress is perfect for her company christmas party. she will have it shortened and it will be worn often i am sure. which is a big plus. the little kids, the girls are all taken care of. we got the dresses last week. the wee boys, they will wear cream coloured shirts, black pants and matching ties. we found the shirts at sears. so they will be easy.  i hate to see bridesmaids dresses hang forever in a closet. DD is pleased she has her dress lined up for her big christmas event already!! LOL

we have beans, peas, beets to pick. sunny today, hope the garden dries up a bit for DH. wish you were closer, i have tons to share!!!

    Re: Canadian Corner 25/07/08

    Good morning,

Well, not canning or pickling for me today.  I have to get some cukes tonight to make relish tomorrow.

It is raining cats and dogs this morning.  It started sometime overnight.  I woke up to the downpours and had to close the windows that had been left open to cool the house down.  It's still early and already it is 24 with the humidity of 30.  I don't think it is supposed to go any higher.  I wish the rain wasn't beating against the windows, so I could keep them open.  I guess Rudy will have to stay in the porch today.  I don't want to leave him out in the rain, especially since he's so old - his joints would seize up from the dampness.

So, I guess it will be laundry dried in the dryer again today.  I think the sun is supposed to come out tomorrow.  I hope so, since I have beans that need to be picked again.  The garden certainly is loving the rain this week.

Crea, sounds like this crew knows how to work.  At the rate they are going, your balcony will be done in no time.  Then you and kitty can get back to having a normal life again.

Katie, sounds like the wedding plans are coming along.  I know that when I worked at the Superstore, the floral dept had the lucky bamboo.  I think it was something like $1.99 each.  I'm not certain about the price.  I only worked in that dept a couple of times.

Pat, sounds like you are having a lot of fun with your work crew too.  I hope they come good for the broken window pane.

Yf, I hope that your counter offer comes through.  Buying and selling is not fun, too stressfull.  Dh and I hope to stay here for the rest of our lives.  We didn't have much fun when it came to buying this house or selling our old mini.

Well, off to get the laundry done and plan the rest of the day.

    Cathy

    Re: Canadian Corner 25/07/08

Okay, already! What the heck is all the racket for? I'm up, and I've been up for a while now. So there.

Crea, sounds like you and Zoey will get to enjoy at least part of the summer on your balcony. That's good news.

Pat, roof? That must be what all the racket is for:) I have a mental picture of your house, 2 1/2 story brick...sounds like an old farmhouse that we'd see on the prairie in the US.

YF, I hope your potential buyers come through with a better offer. The first one is usually a low-ball offer just to "test the waters" to see how much the sellers will come down. I hope you get a fair price...and hope they don't spend all their time parading through your house! Not too convenient, that's for sure. You might tell your realtor to encourage them to bring a video camera along, video the house, and leave you along forever after until closing!

Canning season. OMG, I remember those days. I think it's where that saying "if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen" came from. And Char, if you think those cherries made a mess, remember what it's like to have a jar break in the canner. Uck!!!!

Today's the day for the safety school. Starts at 6 this evening. Everybody keep your fingers crossed for us! At least one of us has to get in that class.

Edited to add: Yes, we do have somebody down there to keep an eye out for a place for us. DS is looking, and we made some good contacts with real estate people. We'll find a place, I just wish it was already done!

Yooper I heard all that racket too. Woke me up though. Had a lousy night last night. The heat just won't let me sleep.

Sounds like everybody has a busy day. Getting ready for a relaxing weekend I hope.

Crea bet is sounds good to hear workers working soon things will be back to normal for you and kitty.

Pat. To bad about the window but I guess things like that do happen. Did you get a new step yet?

Yooper here is hoping that you get into that class, really would be too bad if you had to spend the summer only looking at the bike.

Katie sure sounds like your wedding plans are coming together nicely. That could be one interesting wedding party. All the little ones-- too cute. I sure hope that you have luck finding the bamboo that you want.

The rooster has crowed.( Not sure who has this but every morn 8:00 an alarm goes off and sounds like a rooster) Now it is time to get into full gear. Have to bake a b'cake for dgk's. Three will be here by Sat. Have to kid proof my house. Our parish has its anniversary cel. tonight as well. Busy weekend ahead.

It sure is nice having you all to chat too every morn while I sip in morning tea. God bless you all.

    Good morning!!

Glad they are finally getting to your balcony and will be done soon.

It will be cute to have all those little ones in the wedding party.  Glad the plans are coming along great.

I am going for lunch today and then off to the lake after 4:30.  It's a good thing we will be having a weiner roast after we get there as I don't think I'll be very hungry.  Dutch Growers always have good food there.

    Dolores, you have mail.

Better get my last coffee and then get myself ready.  Have errands to do before lunch.

    Re: Canadian Corner 25/07/08

The most perfect summer monring out there!  If I was more disciplined, I would grab a book with my coffee and sit on the swing on my deck and just enjoy the quiet morning.  Dropped down to 4º but going up to 30 for the daytime, my perfect summer.  And even with canning, last I checked, my house was only 20º inside, no airconditioning!  I LOVE my house!  In my trailer, we would be lying on the floor trying to stay cool!

Our cat went missing for 24 hours.  Just before leaving for PG, DH opened the garage, and out he came!  Good thing it wasn't hot in there.  But he could have at least cried at the door, I would have heard him (I think) Then last night DH opened the garage to get what he had dropped off, and this morning, when DH went and opened it again, out popped kitty.  Guess we are going to have to really watch that bugger, or we will have dead kitty in the garage!  Oh we went to PetLand yesterday, my kids had never been there.  Oh my, I could have taken home a puppy!  Or even a mouse!  Cute white mice to freak out my SIL's!! LOL.

Katie, I'm with you on that washer!!!  We need more women inventors, then it would be done!

Yooper, yup, my jar didnt' break in the canner, but somehow (and it's beyond me) the lid came off.  Sticky sticky sticky!

Well, I got a huge house to clean top to bottom, bathroom to paint, and summer to enjoy!  Tomorrow I go work a 11 or 12 hours shift!  No AC in the kitchen, wish me luck!

So I guess today is paint the bathroom day.  We  bought a vanity from Costco, the one with marble top.  And the door from Home Depot, which DH still has to build the frame.  Not sure how long we have till the deadline, I need to phone my aunt.  Good motivation for us.  Wanted to get that bathroom working before the house sold.  Last time, all the renovating got done only days before we moved out.  I dont' want that happening again, but I really think it will.  DH is talking next spring.  Gives us the winter to do all the minor things.

     Music Good Day ALL!!!

Oh well, one hour of sunlight last night was a treat...only the 4th hour in a week.

Good luck on the bamboo search, Katie. They are everywhere here! I just don't look if I can't afford or don't have room for them, so looking around this week, I found a LOT.

Congrats, Crea, that you'll have a balcony soon!!...it's been a long time coming, for sure!

Oh Char, 4C?...after a hot spell, that'd be a delight! I'd even take some of that snow....really!

I'd better get some laundry done and then out the door for tonight's shift. Friday night, nice weather, first day of the sale flyer, 6-10:30...this'll be a busy one!

    Everyone, have a lovely day!
