    Great money saving tip

Many years ago, I started cutting every tube or plastic bottle in half to scrape out the remaining contents even after I was sure I had gotten every drop out. I am always surprised at the amount I find!! I do this with lotions (including those large bottles of hand lotion and smaller containers of face lotions), toothpaste, face-scrub tubes, small tubes of medicine, etc.  Sometimes I scrape the contents into the next bottle and sometimes I just slip one side into the other side which "closes" it until I can use the contents. (This works best with plastic tubes and can be slipped into a small plastic bag, too.) Tubes like toothpaste and many medicine tubes will stay “closed” until pried open.  I use scissors on small tubes and a serrated knife on lotion bottles.  You will be amazed at how much you have been throwing away . . . until now!

I am glad to hear that I am not the only one that does this. Many times there is enough to use 4 or 5 more times. On tapered shaped tubes such as hair gel and lotions, I will cut the tube just where it begins to taper. I can then reach into both ends to get the product out and then I can slip the wider cut edge over the narrower edge like a cover for storing. Also, when I can't get any more shampoo or conditioner to squeeze out of the bottle, I will remove the cover and add a little water, replace the cover and shake the bottle up. Then the product will come out because it is a thinner consistency. You, of course, have to use more but I usually get a couple more shampoos and sometimes I will get 4 or 5 more times out of the conditioner. I think every little bit more that you get helps!

I always add water to shampoo, detergent, and many cleaning supplies to get the last little bit out.  But never really cut bottles and tubes open--will be doing that in the future though.  One of those 'why didn't I think of that' ideas!  Thanks!

What a wonderful Great money saving tip suggestion!  I, also, for many years, have been using this exact method in order to use the remaining contents of  "hard-to-get-into" bottles and tubes.  You truly will have an additional amount left in the very bottom of the containers.  Idea

You should try this $$$ saver if you use the thick liquids for dishwashers.  There is enough in the bottom of the plastic bottle to do at least 2 more loads.  Same is true for the thick liquids for scrubbing stovetops and countertops,  This also would work for shampoo. You can tell by the weight of the "empty" bottle that there is more in there so I add a little bit of water and shake it up and have enough for several more shampoos and with my long hair, that's a bonus!!  This also applies to conditioner and your favorite body wash.  Most of the products I use, have the bottles that are turned upsidedown and I'm still amazed at how much is left in there!

I learned from my 'Mary Kay dealer' sister-in-law to do this with foundation, cleanser, etc. tubes.  It lasts soooo much longer.

I did not know that other people did this. I am always amazed at how much is left in the containers. I would love to have any that someone is ready to put in the trash.

    Thanks,

I too squeeze as much as possible out of a tube of anything, and then cut into it.

I also have an empty shampoo and body wash bottle and I water them down.

2 parts body wash or shampoo to one part water.     You absolutely cannot tell the

    difference in performance!

I also have been doing this for years. I always turn food containers upside down. Sometimes I'll use a funnel to pour one into the other such as ketchup. For most things, when I cut the bottle, I'll put it into a plastic baggie so it doesn't get hard, such as lotions. And of course as a money saving feature, I reuse the same baggie many times. Have to save every way possible.

I do this with the expensive tube of makeup I get at department store.  There is a good  3 days or more in the bottom of the tube. I also wash out my shampoo and dish dert. and laundry dert. too.  As the old saying goes "Good to the Last Drop" So glad to know I am not the only cheap one.....have to save so I can PAY for hair cuts and the importent things

I also started cutting tubes with Mary Kay products; sometimes I get a week or more of use, depending on the product.  It's so expensive I want to get every last drop.  I put in a zip plastic bag to keep fresh after cutting the tube.  I have not figured out how to get every last drop of eye cream in the pump out yet.  Please contact me if you have.

    Re: Great money saving tip

This money saving tip is good to keep in mind just because we recycle. Every tube and bottle, such as shampoo, dishwashing liquid and laundry det., should be cleaned/rinsed out, not only to prevent waste but to also make sure that anything recycled is as clear of the product as possible. I have been cutting open hand lotion bottles for years to prevent waste. Toothpaste tubes, not so much. Shampoo, conditioner bottles, laundry det.,ketchup and mustard bottles, etc., should all be rinsed and cleaned before recycling. As we have this arrangment available to us, we should do all we can to move the process along the best possible way!!
