    Dog [&] Critter Chat 07/25/08

It's almost mornoon and the doors are still locked!  Well, not any more....I've thrown up the door and turned on the a/c.  I have to post and run as I'm at the office. Just wanted to get things started.  Have a great day!

Mornoon to you too AF!  We had to turn our ac back on today too.  it was nice having the windows open for the night.  Don't tell dh but at one point I was actually cold last night.

We had such a nice time at my aunt's last night.  My uncle did make it to the party and stayed for about an hour or more.  It was bittersweet seeing him there because we all knew that it was probably his last time there.  We all made the most of it.  We laughed and joked around.  My other uncle made this  gazebo type thing for my aunt.  He bought a mill wheel and built a thing around it that has lattice and flower baskets it hanging on it.  Well, my uncle that has cancer told my other uncle that his creation would make a nice final resting place for the  other uncle. LOL!  Our family has a strange sense of humor.  An aunt from California flew in yesterday but she didn't get there until after we left.  I haven't seen her in about 6 years.

Kozy, I read last night's post and I guess if I had read the box that the bags came in, I would have known that the fruit sweats. LOL!

I hope everyone has a good day.

    News From The Vet

    Vomiting dog

Do you know the #1 emergency seen in pet emergency rooms?

Most people guess trauma from being hit by a car, gun shot wound, bite wounds, drowning, and other "exciting" and urgent problems.  Do you know what the number one reason pet owners take their dogs to the animal emergency room?

It is vomiting. Yep, the number one reason dog owners take their dog to the after hours emergency room is vomiting. Your dog starts vomiting, you get a little nervous, you clean up the mess, you watching him closely, he acts listless and with no energy, you become really worried.

Do you know what to do?

    1. Make sure you know where your local emergency room is or how your vet deals with emergency. Keep this information (phone number, hours, address and directions) handy.

    2. Make sure you know your dog's medical history and any medications he is on. The emergency vet will want to know when it started, how many times your dog vomited, what the vomit looked like, the last time your dog vomited, and if there are any accompanying symptoms such as lethargy, weakness or diarrhea. Observe your dog. If possible, take a sample of the most recent diarrhea with you.

    3.  Call your veterinarian or emergency clinic to determine what they want you to do.  Their staff will talk to you about your pet and their recommendation if you should take him or her in for examination. If your dog has only vomited once, is acting normal, has no diarrhea, they may give you a recommendation to wait a few hours and see if you pet vomits again.

    4. Prevent exposure of your pet to trash, table scraps and other foreign objects that he may be inclined to chew on. Make any food changes gradually and over a several day period. Buy only safe toys and ensure your dog does not chew on any objects around that house which he could swallow and be unable to digest or pass through his system.

Hi Jan..Your story about your uncle reminded me of my dad. He also had cancer.  We had a party for him at the hospital and many people came knowing it was the last time to see him. Some from out of town. He could get up and about and we did have a good time. What was strange was his being able to get up and about and he laughed and had a great time in spite of his pain. But as soon as the last guest left he went back to his bed and although he could get in and out without help before suddenly he needed help to get into the bed. It was the last time he could get up. He died 3 days later. But we never regreted that party...

I do think the one reason the green bags fail for some is because they do not read the instructions...grin..I am a stickler for reading rules and trying to follow them...

Like they say, laughter is the best medicine!  My uncle is the jokester of the family.  At my grandmother's funeral, he hid the preacher's coat. That wouldn't be so bad but it was one of the coldest January's on record!

That would be me!  Then I go back and read the directions after it doesn't work LOL!

Hi dmax!  I'm sure you've already left for the races.  I hope you have a good time.  Poor Madusa!  Hope she's feeling better.

Hey widdle!  I wish I could see that with the baby moose!  We're still in the 19th century.  We have to carve our emails on stone tablets still.  But one day I hope we can have something other than dial up!

I found a picture that has part of that gazebo thing I was telling you about. My uncle wanted to make it into a water garden but my aunt is terrified of snakes and she was afraid they would be attracted to the water.

Hi chatters.....been forever since I've had a chance to stop in here.   Hope everyone is doing fine.....both people and pets.

Jan,  your party sounds like it was fun,  if  bittersweet.   It seems like cancer is rearing it's ugly head everytime I turn around.   Effecting many close friends in a terrible way.   I'm glad your uncle could spend some time with the family.   It will be a good memory for all.

This has to be a hit and run post.   Too many things to do,  not enough hours in the day.  Gaby says hi to everyone.

    Big Smile
