    Well, I weakened....

after having such a good sort-out and dragging things to the 'cancer research'charity shop...I still had one lonely bag left in my boot...and it was clinking and clanking wherever I went..my friend said, whatever have you got in there?... and I showed it to her, a huge glass punch bowl...with various fruit sort of embossed on the sides..and the matching 6 punch cups inside it...I had bought it when we lived in Germ any, why I did I shall never know..it never ever had anything like punch or even fruit salad in it...it was big and taking up space....and yes, it came back with our possessions when we moved back home...and then I had asked around would anyone like it? But my dil's have so much already in their cupboards...so, it had gone into a bag, ready for the shop..and still sitting in my car....so I showed it her, and no, she did not want it either, so I said'I have to take it in..' and then she said, look, you really want to keep it, don;t you? and I did...and no idea why? It is not even that attractive,  so it went back into the nice clean and sorted out china cupboard..no doubt there it will stay now...unused forever...

perhaps I could make a note in my will...'anyone wanting to inherit anything of mine, must arrange a huge punch with lots of nice pink champagen and strawberries in the bowl...and use the cups!' and then smash it? LOL

    love a piper!

Mirry, somehow my mother has accumulated several punch bowl sets, as well as a silver tea service. She keeps threatening to leave them to whichever one of us pisses her off the most before she dies. I try to stay on my best behavior!

We received a punch bowl as a gift from the real estate agent who sold us our first house.  I don't use it a lot, but at Christmas it has eggnog in it.  Homemade eggnog.  Which I love.  It has a hollow base it stands on (the punch bowl, not the eggnog) and I fill it with little Christmas ornaments.

Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.

I have one that is taking up space in my cupboard as well but I am so glad I have it. First of all, it was my grandmothers and it's beautiful.  I've used it about three times (in 40 years) but I'm so glad I can put my hands on it when the fesivities call for punch.  I'd sure hate to go out and have to run one down.  My small town probably doesn't have one to sell. I cherish the one I have and yes, the dil will no doubt rue the day she gets it!

I actually like the idea of using it for salad.  I hadn't thought about doing that before.

I don't know why it is, but those of us who have punch bowl sets have a difficult time parting with them. Perhaps it is nostalic. Mine sits unused for so many years, yet I refuse to give it up. I have second thoughts about things frequently, and one thing I gave away recently I am still kicking myself for doing THAT. I loved it, and the spot where it stood is still bare. From now on I will never get rid of anything until I have a suitable replacement.

My grandmother's punch bowl sits in a prominent place in my dining room.  It is cut glass, very large, about three gallons, and sits on a stand about 10-12 inches high.  The twelve cups sit in a circle around it.  This punch bowl was bought with S & H Green Stamps sometime in the teens or the twenties and carried home on the streetcar.  It has been at least ten years since I have used it but it gives me pleasure every time I go into my dining room and see it sitting there.  There are so many happy memories attached to it and I do cherish them.  Reason does not figure into why we are so attached to some objects, we just are and there is nothing worng with keeping things that give us pleasure.   Someday it will probably be thrown away along with many other beautiful things I inherited from my grandmother, my mother and my aunts. I will be gone then and it will not matter.
