    No more advertising!

    To all subscribers of TOH:

Please, please, e-mail the editors to let them know how awful the magazine is now that they are allowing advertisements.  TOH is no longer unique and interesting as the number of ads has drastically increased in the past issue.  I for one will not renew my subscription because of this.  I miss being able to read the magazine cover to cover without looking at more ads for Jell-O or Miracle Whip.  Is it just me or has the magazine slowly been reducing its content?  It smaller in size as well as volume than issues of the past.  I know because I have been a subscriber for over 10 years and what a difference from when the magazine was first published.

If you share my opinion, I encourage all TOH readers to share their opinion with the editors.

    Perhaps, they will listen?

You're absolutely right that the number of recipes seems to be decreasing with every issue. I don't like the ads either, and I'm in the publishing business so I understand that generates revenue. I'd prefer they concentrate on getting online ads and take them out of the magazine.

It seems they do more with the page layout to take up space instead of printing recipes. Pretty disappointing. I got my new issue yesterday and didn't find one recipe I'll probably make.

While I do dislike the advertising, I really don't think that it's that distracting.  Not nearly as much as other magazines have.  With the cost of everything rising these days, I had much rather see an ad or two  than see the subscription price go up.  Martha Stewart Living and Gourmet and some others seem to be at least half filled with ads.  At least TOH has not reached those proportions yet......when and if they do, I may have to reconsider my subscription also.

I completely agree, and came on here to post the same thing.  I let my subscription lapse, and then just sent to get the free trial issue and start up a new sub.  I was extremely disappointed to see that taste of home has ads now.  I am writing "no thanks" on my bill that came w/the free issue, and I'm glad I hadn't already paid for it.  And you're also right about the content, there just isn't much to it anymore.  I'll just keep an eye on the issues at my local bookstore, and if it contains a recipe that I just HAVE to have, then I'll just copy the recipe down in my planner and try it out. I'll only buy it if it seems worth it (i.e. has multiple recipes that I'm dying to try).

So sad, for so many years, that has been a strong selling point - "tons of recipes w/NO ads"!

Boo Hoo, poor TOH needs the money. Phooey!! Each month there are two or three special magazines on the newsstands (like church dinners, potlucks, Kids meals, cool treats, etc). Each of these magazines cost $5.99 or $9.99 and they are all recipes that have been previously published. That seems like almost pure profit to me to just rearrange recipes and make an entire new magazine and charge that price for them. Yet, they are glossy tempting pictures of recipes and we are impulse buyers, are we not? TOH thinks so!

    Re: No more advertising!

I had a very nice man call the other day and say he was from TOH and wanting to let me know my subscription was running out and how was I enjoying the magazine. So I told him!!! I mentioned the ads, I mentioned the late arrival of the magazines, I said the recipes were often repeats, and I felt the recipes weren't as homey and down-home as they use to be. He said he was very sorry to hear that I was not satisfied and then asked if I was familiar with Simple and Delicious. I said that I thought it was worse! He was surprised (I was very polite but told him what I thought!!) but apologized that I was no longer happy and wished me a good day. Now, if he only tells somebody important that there are those of us who are not satisfied with their changes.

I didn't renew my subscription either for the same reason. It just wasn't looking like a TOH magazine anymore, even the paper seems thinner or something. I will just wait til the annual recipe books come out and get those instead.

I wholeheartedly agree.  I was SO disappointed when Quick Cooking changed to Simple & Delicious.  I waited it out a few months to see if things got better and they only went downhill.  I did not renew that one.  Taste of Home doesn't seem the same anymore.  The ads are really disappointing, but the content itself just doesn't do it for me any longer.  Hardly any recipes look interesting.  I truly hope the editors are reading these comments and listening.

I also am seriously considering not renewing subscriptions to both simple and delicious and taste of home.  I am glad that I did not get rid of my old issues, because I am constantly looking through them and finding recipes.  The new issues just are not very  good.

    Re: No more advertising!

Everything food,  gas, clothing cars etc . have  become far more expensive lately, I see very few exceptions ........................ if some advertising keeps this community chat  and this magazine going I do not find a huge problem with that at all. The majority of people on this post have posted (with rare exception) relatively little and that is definitely your own personal choice.

If this board due to lost income through Decreased magazine Support becomes a  Subscribers Only Site like many  Sites...........  I would find it quite a loss for the great community input and The steadfast  longtime/frequent  posters we have here .
