    ***PCH Kitchen*** August....2008....Welcome

    WELCOME TO THE PCH KITCHEN

Good morning, so good to see you. We hope you'll find the warmth and the friendship here that we have been privileged to enjoy. We have a common bond. We are physically challenged homemakers.

We share affection for one another through compassion, honesty, and most importantly, respect for one another and one another's situations.

We gather here to share information on ways to make our lives easier, to offer support to each other and to share humor and laughter, sometimes tears and always good food.

There is always room in the kitchen for all who would like to join in...So help yourself to a cup of coffee, cocoa, tea or fruit juice. There are always fresh fruit , muffins, coffee cake and cookies....pull up a chair at the old country table and visit awhile.....and remember to tell a friend.

For our old friends that have not been by for awhile, we hope you will drop in and let us know how you are doing.

OUR DOOR IS ALWAYS OPENBig Smile

Good morning everyone, hope you have all slept well and as pain free as possible. Heading for the shower in a bit, but wanted to say hello and thank you for the recipe Ann, I think I am going to have to make some of those cookies, the added ground peanuts sound like it would make a peanut butter cookie even better. Glad to see those of you who were able to post yesterday checking in and updates on our gals, yes Kerry got a laugh out of our Cupcake, he has heard so much about our PCH family here and met a few of you also. *smile*Deery I sure envy you the cool weather to sit out in and enjoy, well soon enough our time will get here I guess, the way this year is flying ins't it? Where in the world has it gone? Time to get showered and ready to leave , have a great day. Hugs, Connie............................ Praying for our Troops and emergency workers and those in need, have a good weekend everyone. SYL

Good morning Connie, Ruth, Ann and to all that will be dropping in today.

Thanks for starting us off with our brand new Aug. room Connie. It always feels good to start off with a clean slate every month...........but why do the months have to go by so fast !! LOL...........good luck with your appointment today. Prayers for good news and a comfortable exam.

Ruth thanks for bringing by that cute graphic. :>) You always find the very cutest. Best of luck with your appointment. Think I remember your saying it will be with a new doctor so do hope that he/she will be a good one and be able to help you.

Ann. I know that you will be enjoying the next couple of days with your sweetie no matter what you will be doing. Thanks for dropping off the cookie recipe. Sure sounds like a good one. Have not made any cookies in some time so just may get out the old cookie sheets and give these a try.

Not sure what today will bring here . Bill will be going to his friday card game and I may dig out my quilting and work on that for awhile. Had put it away when we thought we was having company last weekend and just no gotten it back out.

Wishing all a good day and hope that you are all ready for a nice weekend.

Blessed are those that can give without remembering and take without forgetting.

A new month already. Seems like we just had the 4th of July.

Our weather is nutty today. When I got up it was bright sun and blue skies and now 2 1/2 hrs later is is overcast again. Will just wait a few minutes and it will change again, that's the Pacific N.W. for you.

Connie....don't blame you about the Christmas tree. I didn't put up one for years till last year when I bought a tiny one from a puzzle catalog. It is so very cute....I love it. It folds compact to store in a flat box and to open it up you just grab hold of the top and pull and....walla...you have a tree. It has lights and small red bows and garland and I bought some baby's breath at the craft store to add to it. I would say it is about 3 ft tall and kinda narrow so it takes up hardly any space at all. I think they had a larger one, too.

Ruth...where do you stay when you go overnight to Branson? I have thought of going but driving is no longer a good idea from Seattle because of the gas and also airline tickets have jumped also so we may not get there. I paid $4.05 in town for reg....down from $4.09. Only got $20 worth...holding out for cheaper!   lol

Going to friend's tonight for a bbq and am taking a grape salad. Red and green seedless grapes, toasted pecans, and sour cream mixed with brown sugar. Setting aside just plain grapes for Duane so he doesn't have excess sugar....don't know what dessert will be.

Was looking on the birthday/anniversary sheet and see we have quite a few anniversaries this month, some who I no longer see on here, for instance Penny. Anybody hear from her anymore?

I have a almost brand new shirt I splashed bleach on,; even though I had put a towel under my chin to protect myself as I know what a klutz I can be but got some on it anyway. Grrrrrrrrrr, might mad at myself. So yesterday I bought a dye remover pkg and a new dye to redo it and will use the turkey fryer propane base to do all the work rather than here in the house or on the Coleman camp stove. The turkey fryer has a much hotter and bigger flame so it shouldn't take so long and also beings it's outside I don't care if I make a mess....which I can almost guarantee!  lol

I'm sure your eye appointment is over by now Connie. Hope you got good news.

Better eat some breakfast before it's lunch time.  Have to drive to the bank and make the mortgage payment, too.

    Liz

Hi ladies, just dropping in before I go lay down. Report was not to bad, I knew I was facing some issues, but I am not just ready to tackle them and doctor said ok to my no surgery of the cateracts, but I think after Kerry returns I will have it done and hope for some good results, surgery just scares me when it comes to the eyes after my last episodes. *smile* I have to go back in three months, one eye pressure stayed the same and one is down, so if it stays up in the one it will probably have to have some more laser surgery on it, hope the pressure goes down. At least it did not go up. But they put me through the wringer and I thought I was ready to go and Dr found another test that he wanted done,, yet another scan today, had been a year, so found Kerry and he thought I had gotten last. *grin* Well I am going to lay down and rest the eyes, tired and aching, have a good day ladies. Ruth hope your appt has gone well today. Hugs, Connie

Connie sure am glad that your eye exam is over and you are back home with not too bad news. Know that you was really concerned this time. Can sure understand your wanting to put off that surgery just as long as you can. Its sure scary when they start messing around with our eyes, isn't it...........do hope that you can rest and maybe catch a few Z's this afternoon and give your eyes a rest as well. (((Connie)))

Do hope that our Ruthie will be dropping by with a good news appointment later.

Ahh shucks there is a telephone truck at the front gate. guess I had better check and see if he needs zapped in to check wireing.

Just got home. what a  long day this has been, we did not make it to Rolla as planed it took a lot longer for my appt then we had thought, the doctor was very nice and was wanting tests done to start ruling out things so has blood work done  some heart test and more to be done during this month she said we will not stop till she finds just what all s going on and finds the right meds to help, she says even will find the right meds to help fight the fibro flares,  well I need to pack for this weekend so better get at that , I will try to get back before I go to bed , we are leaving here real early in the morning. I need to go back and read what you all have been up to.

    Re: ***PCH Kitchen*** August....2008....Welcome

Good evening all! I know it's late....not ready to climb into bed just yet, just got done doing checkbook and Dave is already out. Have my DVD player all set up with Criminal Minds ready to go when I do make it to bed. Sorry to have been pretty scarce lately. Allot going on to the point it's getting overwhelming so I just shut down till I can deal with it. I do try to peek in so I can keep up with some of the going ons in your lives but still in the dark about allot and I apologize for that. Connie, glad to know your eye appt. went fairly well. Glad the surgery is not needed right at this time. They keep putting off mine too but I'm getting the feeling I may not hold out much more. Everything seems to have a haze over it and colors just not as vivid as they could be and I was told that's the sign it's getting close to that time. I'm like you...don't want anyone messing with my eyes...period! I don't have the pressure issue like you, was only elevated slighty once but not an issue (knocking on wood) but have had many lasar treatments (the ones that DON'T hurt....yeah, right! Plus the victrectomy, which is just as bad if not worse! Only other option is to do nothing but then we can't see then. Dentis and eye surgeons are at the top of my list on getting ill just thinking about them. Bet you and Kerry are really pushing to get things done....how much more of the bathroom do you have to go? I love the last pics you sent! I know time is going by too fast for you both. Glad to hear our Lil' Cupcake touched base with you....and got Kerry good! *grin* Ruthie Dear, sorry you didn't make it to your friend in the hospital....hope it's nothing serious. Sounds like you got a good new doc that is on top of things. I know how frustrating it is to go to a new doc and have to start over but to me that means she's starting from scratch and just not taking other docs words for short cuts. I've learned that the hard way. I pray she finds something to help you with the fibro flares. I thought you said something about taking a trip this weekend....hope you have a fun, safe trip. Be extra careful, gonna be a hot one! Liz, reading about your gas $....we filled up yesterday and it was 3.98 but at another we passed, it was 3.86. Never fails, does it? Gotta have it though! Your grape salad sounds good and refreshing. I may give it a try, I do have some brown sugar splenda and may use that. As long as I make it sweet enough to cove rthe sour cream taste, Dave MAY try it. (no sour crm or crm cheese for him) but I don't like things overly sweet either. Had to laugh at your bleach episode....never fails with me. I've even turned a couple t-shirts that were dark into a tye dye shirt with the bleach. At least I can still wear them around here or when messin' with more bleach...LOL! Oh, Nancy...been watching the weathe rin your area, I feel for you and the heat. I know it's extremeley uncomfortable for you. I'm sure you have plenty of relexing projects you can do in the comforts of the a/c. Good idea to pull the quilting back out. I started making my tie blankets again....found out I can still do them even with my hand. Just got done with 2 and will probably have 2 more done by time the weekend is over. Very calming and relaxing for me. Still can't do any hand sewing at all or anything that's intricate work so I'm happy about the blankets. I've been watching a ALLOT of HGTV, the Design on a Dime shows and really coming up with ideas for some simple remodels...just have to do it without Dave with me...you know how guys are, will try to make you do it the "right way" or change what you have invisioned. So I'm just tossing around a few ideas right now but know where I want to go and what I want. Ann, that cookie recipe sure looks good and perfect timimg....was informed that the "lab rats" are getting hungry again and always want something new. I'll let you know what the verdict is...*G* Hope you and Jim enjoy your 2 days off together! Hope Deery is doing well and your family is recovering from the virus. Have you been able to get out and enjoy some warm, SUNNY days this week? I know most of you are in bed, hoping resting peacefully. Hopefully I will be shortly. Hope everyone has a great weekend and if your in the heat advisory areas....be careful, stay in a/c and drink those fluids! Not sure if Dave is working tomorrow or not, otherwise we'll be hitting the grocery store....we're down to bare nothing! Guees I better end this book. Have a great weekend all. Hugs and prayers for all!

Good morning ladies, I am trying to be quiet here, not to wake you all and let Kerry sleep as well. Dee so nice to read your so called book, hehe, love those, hope you are taking care woman and just dealing with one issue at a time and not letting it get you down, you continue to be in our prayers. Heat is to be 101 here today, so I am going to stay in for a while, need to mow the dried brush, hehe, grass, but it waits on me, I did mow some the other evening close to dark and used the head lights on the mower and got some done while cooler outside. Kerry is heading to the mens breakfast at church this morning later, wives are invited this time, but this gal is staying home and resting, or chilling. Kerry is working on hanging the glass shower door that will pivot on hinges and not a slider one, then the stool I think. Really not much more there, and time is going to fast, in 3 weeks he will be gone. :(  Yes will miss him but part of our life and we know I am not the only wife that goes through this. And Chris will be gone to Antarctica a couple days after his Dad leaves, please keep him in your prayers as most of you read in his blog, he had a pretty hairy scare when they went to fly out of there before, wondering if they were going to make it or not with the weather, that time of year we know and the climate changes this world is having, so strange. Since he was in Antarctica there was a ice break off the size of Rhode Island that was reported. Well time for me to surf a bit before I am off here, take care and prayers for our PCH family, friends and as well as prayers for our military and emergency workers. Ann I hope you are not reading this and are out and about with your man. *grin* Enjoy these couple days lady. Hugs to you all, Connie

Connie, glad you are staying out of the heat.

Ruth, enjoy your outing with dear friends.

Dee, enjoyed your book. Glad you could post. Take care of yourself and do things as you are able.

Had a still night finally. Been tossing and turning all week and arms were feeling mangled. Lost strength in arms in July. Hope a few good nights can restore them some. When DH is available and I feel up to it we will look for lift recliner that fits my body. Occupatiential therypist  told me a place to go. Then on toss and turn nights I can lay back in recliner and it won't do my arms in.

A little cool today. Will have bbq at DD/SIL tomorrow. SIL is bbq for his birthday.

Wishing good health day for All. Hugs, Deery

    Re: ***PCH Kitchen*** August....2008....Welcome

Wow! Where did the day go??? Dave didn't get up till 2 today, then off to the grocery, got home about 5 and started cooking. Before we left he asked if I would make him some hot wings so pulled out the chx wings to defrost while gone. After getting the groceries put away, made the wings. Did it a little different this time, I baked them instead of frying them. So much easier, don't have to stand and do a few at a time. Just need to find a better way to have them not stick so much. I did Pam the pan but.... Anyways, while that was going, browned up 3 lbs. of beef for taco meat, going to make a big sheet of enchiladas tomorrow and any left over meat will be froze for either nachos one night or taco/burritos for Dave to fix himself if I can't eat. Plus many more meals from the leftover enchiladas. Next will make the spaghetti sauce for big pan of lasagna and the same will go with that, many leftovers for quick easy meals. Right now I'm roasting some veggies.....can't remember where I saw this recipe, if it was on here or what but when veggies somewhat cool, going to cut into very small peices (I remember it said to puree but want some little texture) and mix with cream cheese, spread on flour tortilla and some deli turkey, roll-up and wrap in plastic wrap for at least a few hours and slice. Thought that might be something I can get down, cool and light. One big problem I have is standing and cooking, the smell of everything I lose my appetite so I'm trying the cooking marathon for 2-3 days, get things broken down in meals and see if that helps....especially on the days of the cleaners. I rarely make lasagna or enchiladas cause it's so time consuming for me so I thought if I get the meats and sauce ready, tomorrow I can finish them up and if I'm going to make them, make a big pan instead of the 9x9 that I usually do for us. Dave is so funny, he's like a little kid, didn't realize how much he really missed my cooking. Poor guy....so neglected, LOL! Connie, I hope you behaved yourself and stayed out of that heat! If you were outside, hopefully the ONLY thing you were doing was lounging in the pool! You know Chris is always in our prayers as well as you and Kerry! How much longer is Chris going to continue to do tours to Antartica? Ruthie, I love those siggies you come up with. Hope you all have a good trip today and you also be careful in this heat! Deery, were you able to get out and go find you a lift recliner? I know I get what they say is "restless leg syndrome" but in my arms and tried me on Requip. It didn't help me (or my legs) but is that what you mean? I hope the weather will be perfect for the bbq tomorrow and that you have a great time! Ann, hope you and Jim are enjoying your time together. Nancy, Hope you and Bill are behaving yourselves too and staying inside....I think it's time to beat Bill in some backgammon...*G*! Well, break time over, veggies cool enough to handle, make the roll-ups and I'm done!!! Sure hope stomach holds out so I can go to church tomorrow. I've missed so many weeks and really miss it. Hope everyone has a great evening.
