    Quilter's Chat for August!

Well here we are into the last month of Summer!

Mary Jane- I go to Kentucky about 3 times a year but I am on the very Eastern edge of KY. Paduca would be about 5 hours away or more. Wish it was closer!

Hope everyone is working diligently!!! Ha Ha! I am not!

I am taking a short break while we have the 2 family reunions here at my houes. Tomorrow and nest Saturday.  I am half way through a rainbow quilt so I will post a pic when I am done but probably not until Sept. As I will be in KY for 2 weeks in Aug.

    Have a good night, Chris

Chris ... so near and yet so far. I know you would love Paducah. It's a neat little town that encourages all sorts of artists and craftsmen and quilting takes top billing in that town. I met a lady at the Museum that was really in to quilting and explained so many of the techniques used in the beautiful quilts on display. We spent a lot of time together and I really enjoyed it, but never got her name. She lived in South Carolina and was originally from Paducah and really missed living there. Her "never throw anything away" when you are quilting really came home when she showed me the bark on a tree in a quilt "painting" that was made from little bits of thread. She was so interesting. .... I have very good friends who live in Lawrenceburg which is south of Frankfort and Lexington. In fact we were there for a visit a couple of weeks ago. They took us for drives through the horse country and the scenery is just beautiful. Anyway, if you ever do get to Paducah, please let me know, and I'll drive down for at least a lunch get together. ... Very hot and muggy here today. We were out at 6:00 this morning and the heat and humidity were terrible. We take our dog down in the early mornings to the local park for exercise. I don't think I'll stick my head out again all day. ... Mary Jane

Mary Jane That sounds like a wonderful place to visit. I would love to go there. I don't think we have museums like that here in Canada. If we do I'm not aware of them.

I am starting another quilt.  This one is called Rise and Shine and it has chickens and roosters in it.  Not exactly following the pattern but close enough.  I think it is going to be neat looking.  I have truly been going out of my comfort zone as far as colors go! LOL  But, nothing ventured nothing gained!  I am just enjoying this last month of summer, relaxing with my quilts and spending time with my family.

Marlene ... the Museum has a website. Gives you all kinds of information about it. And if you click on some of the links you'll be able to see some of the quilts they have on display. .... http://www.quiltmuseum.org/index.html .... Mary Jane

Kat- When you are done I would love to see a picture of your quilt. It sounds like fun. I don't follow a pattern much anyway and I find I like my quilts as they turn out original. I am enjoying my laast few weeks before school starts up agin.  Chris

Marlene- I have never been in Saskatchewan. I would love some day to see it. I have only 1 state left to have been in all 50 here. I need to see Alaska. Maybe I could come through on my way! LOL, Chris

Chris and Marlene, I'm glad you enjoyed the website. The quilts they display are really something to see. .... Chris ... I live in southern Illinois, about half way between St. Louis, MO and Paducah, or about 60 or so miles from either town. Like you, I've visited most all of the States, but no farther northeast than Boston. I've always wanted to visit up there in the Fall. I haven't been to Alaska either, but did get to live in Hawaii for a year. That was a wonderful experience. .... Marlene, how I would love to see your wonderful country. My only time in Canada at all was a quick trip to Niagara Falls. Now my traveling is pretty limited to visiting my children and brother who all live in the western part of the States. I have a son who live closer to you than I do as he lives in Montana. The others are in Colorado and Arizona. We don't travel as much as we used to with the price of gas and being in our 70's slows us down a bit. .... I wish I could figure out why I can't send messages in paragraphs ... meanwhile, I just try to separate topics by .... .... Mary Jane

Chris Are you a teacher or work at a school?

I've visited California,Florida - winter vacations, North Dakota, South Dakota and Montana. I hope to go to Alaska some day. I would rather go to Alaska then HI.  Mary Jane I have never been to Niagara Falls.  Chris I'm not sure where you live but I have to idea that you are east of me so maybe you will pass through my province when you visit Alaska. I have visited with people in camp grounds who are on  the way to Alaska or else on their way home.

I've lived in Hawaii, Colorado and Florida. Naples, FL, to be exact. I'm not too fond of the rest of Florida, but loved Naples. But it, like every place else, has gotten so crowded and expensive. There was something about living in Hawaii that you don't get anywhere else ... the smell of flowers in the air and the wonderful music. I would love to see Alaska. My DH and I were both born here in southern Illinois and returned here for our retirement years. It's more affordable when you are on a limited income. My choice of all the places we have lived is still Ft. Collins, CO. I also lived in Estes Park which is more up in the mountains, and when I think of living there I can still smell the pine in the air. ..... Have set aside this Friday to go fabric shopping as it's supposed to be cooler then. Hopefully I'll find some I like and can get started on my Double Wedding Ring quilt. ... Mary Jane

Aunt- I teach at a Technical Center. I work with 9th and 10th grade students who are "at risk" students. I used to teach Spec. Ed. I decided I liked the Tech Center better. I am on my 3rd year here.  I live in Southeastern Vermont.North Springfield.

Mary Jane- I want to retire (7 more years) in Southern KY. that is where my only child  (and family) live. I really want to spend time with my grandkids.

I have lived in Hawaii and LOVED it! I go back every year in Feb. I get seasonal depression and that is about how long I can take the winter here before I have to get into lots of sun and arm!!!

I have lived in KY, MA, Chicago and Dallas also. I really like KY I think maybe because my GKs are there LOL.

well I went out today to get parts for our van and ended up getting sme material! I just couldnot resist this autum fabric! . Chris

    Re: Quilter's Chat for August!

Chris - where did you live in Hawaii? We were on Oahu in Kailua. We rented a house on Ohana Street. Our landlord said that was a good old Irish name. He thought that was so funny. Our second son, who now lives in Ft. Collins, CO, was born in Castle Memorial Hospital which is the hospital that was often seen on Magnum, P.I. This baby is now in his 30's, so this has been a while ago. .... I think I told you we were in eastern KY a few weeks ago. We have very close friends there so will probably go there again. The countryside around there is beautiful. Rolling hills. I don't blame you for wanting to live in KY if that is where your only child and grandchildren live. My grandchildren are all in Colorado and I really feel the distance. I've never been to VT, but from what I've seen in pictures it must be really pretty. ... Mary Jane

Mary Jane- We lived on Maui at Olowalu Village just about 7 miles south of Lahaina.

Where in Eastern KY do you go to?

We go to Hazard. Our son lives near Whitesburg. It is all very mountainious where we go.

I have a friend who lives in Ft. Collins CO. I wish I could go visit her!

I like the north west too. We have friends in Idaho, Couer'de' lane.
