O.T. - What about growing older bugs you the most?

For me it is that the boobs are always looking down to see if my shoes are untied --- and I do not even wear tie shoes.

    What's yours?

Maybe that's better than your boobs looking behind you to make sure your butt is still keeping up with the rest of you. Although, when your boobs are watching your shoes, it's hard for men to keep "eye" contact with you! ha ha ha haaaaaa he he heeeeee Sorry, I couldn't resist. Angel

I haven't had children yet but I've noticed how nervous my niece and nephew make me. I get scared when they actively play because I can visualize every potential accident that could happen. I can't imagine how I'll be when I have my own children. I'll be an older mom (I'm 37 now) and I'm afraid I'll smother them. Sometimes, with my niece and nephew, I just hide my eyes or leave. Their parents are right there and they are used to it so I have to let them deal with it. Phew!

I guess the other thing that bugs me is watching Nanny struggle with being elderly. She's 82 and has dimentia and is partially blind. She falls a lot, gets confused and frustrated because she can't get her thoughts to congeal into words to express herself. This is come & go with her. She's not like this all the time. But it makes me stop and think about how things might be in the future. I can't prevent elderly diseases but it does scare me sometimes.

Right now it's the aches and pains.  Never had them years ago and now it seems that I can't escape them.

My problem is all the things that I forget. I can't even walk from one room to the next anymore without forgetting why I went there. It scares the bejeezes outta me. I'm seriously thnking of buying a pistol just in case I get too bad. I refuse to be a mental vegetable and if I get one lucid moment back it's bye bye.

The memeory thing get's me too. Or I walk around looking for my scissors, and I have them in my hand. lol

But you have to fight this aging thing. I teach kickboxing, and I can exhaust a class of half my age. I saw the Dr on Oprah, he has a new book out on this, going to take a look at it.

The aches and pains, the lack of strength, If you stop and think about getting older its depressing, but the having to take a handful of pills morning and night is the pits. Judy

It is mostly the memory thing that bothers me most.  Just got thru looking for a bill that I had made a check for, put in the envelope with stamp and a note attached that I didn't want to mail it until Aug, 16th or later, well guess what I went to look for it this morning where I usually put those things, not there, not in my purse, I am running out of places to look but I do know for sure I didn't mail it.  That is just one of the things, I am regularly loosing things, from room to room, right at my desk etc.  Found one thing I was looking for in one of my cook books that I had closed up when the phone rang.  Also can't remember names like I used to.  Other things are all of the aging things, like diabetes, neuropathy, heart problems, sometimes seems like just too much to cope with but I am trying.  But I did like the one about boobs checking on the shoes or butt.  Tee Hee,  ( I can't remember if it has happened yet)    Anna

In my mind, none of these things are really worth complaining about--as the saying goes, it beats the alternative.

Take all these "old age" problems with as much grace as you can.  I take pills, have some aches and pains, feel my age sometimes--etc, etc,  But I thank goodness every day that I'm still upright and can function well.  What I really worry about is if the time comes when I cannot do all these things--then I will complain.

Re: O.T. - What about growing older bugs you the most?

I thank the good Lord every morning for letting me be able to get up and out of bed.  I know he'll take care of me but I do get concerned because I do not have any family to be around when I get older.  I don't know what will happen to me.  I took care of my elderly Mother (she died 4 years ago at 98) and I realize how much help an older person requires.  I am so glad I could help her and she didn't have to worry about not having someone to love and take care of her; wish I could do it all over again!  I try to live each and every day to the fullest.

One of the things that bothers me about getting older is the way the younger people treat you.  I am 64 and some time they look at me like I'm 104. Ha - They "think" they will never get as old as I am.  Who knows??????????????  I try not to complain about any thing.

For me it's the ringing in my ears...somtimes I think my phone is ringing and it isn't.....LOL. Also the boob/belly thing.....the pills for this and pills for that...I keep my pharmacy in business...Geez and I haven't even reached 60 yet.....Actually my aches and pains started at the age of 50...I just wish I could get rid of the one major problem....my back pain, then I could deal with all the other stuff. Oh, went to the Dr yesterday and found out that my sugar counts are very good and I only have to check my blood sugars if I'm not feeling good. That's a happy thing. Maybe if I lose some more weight I'll be free of that problem too.

What I dislike most is the loss of muscle tone and its many consequences -- not just to looks like::
    sagging breasts
    dropping buttocks
abdominal muscles hand like I'm 5 month pregnant
    triceps hang like bat wings

The effects of loss of muscle tone in my digestive track really bothers me most --
food goes through the system more slowly so every calorie is absorbed -- thus weight gain
the muscles that are not toned do not use calories like the toned ones do -- thus weight gain
the sphynter muscle betweeen my stomach and the esophagus permits acid reflux

And of course, those untoned muscles are more susceptible to injury thus pains from repetitive use.

What bugs me the most??? Growing older, that's what. Oh, yes, and the aches and pains as Gail says. It also bugs me that old age got here so quick. I don't know where the time went. I didn't mind hitting 60, but when those 70's started rolling in, that bugged me. Makes me realize how close those 80's are getting. But, hopefully, I'll still be around to enjoy them and still remember who I am and can continue to complain about the aches and pains!!! ... Mary Jane
