    • 2 more days!! Only 2 more days!! Then we go to Georgia to pick up the TADA!! If you cann’t tell I am a little excited over it.

    • Today we did nothing but a little running around that we didn’t get to do yesterday because we were waiting and waiting.  I guess I would have gotten a little more upset but at least I had the computer so I could play with since I had a outlet I could use.  I need a longer lasting battery for my laptop as it only goes not 2 hours on the present battery.  Plus Shorty and Emily were eating up all the attention they were getting!! It was like nobody ever loves them at home!!

    • Well I guess I will go to bed now.  We gotta get up and send Bob back to work tomorrow!!

    • Today is American Touch Tag Day, a day to play Touch Tag. That' s right the child's game of Tag. Touch Tag is probably the most popular child's game in America. Almost all kids have played some version of it.

    • We are uncertain as to why this day was titled "American". Tag has been known by many names, including: Tag, Touch, Touch Tag, It, Chasey, and Catching. The game has been played by children for thousands of years, going back as far as Ancient Egypt. If it was ours to call, we would certainly name this day World Tag Day.

    • Celebrate American Touch Tag Day today. No matter how old you are, go outside and play Touch Tag.....You're it!

    • Thought for the Day- Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we will pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty.-John F. Kennedy

    • Special hugs and prayers for Betty, Merle, Gat and Jeanette, Mabel and Floyd, Roberta, Ruth, and Anne.

    • Remember the group prayer! “Heavenly Father, we ask that you watch over and care for all Cookin’ Seniors and those they love as they go about their day!!”

    Re: 10/08/08 CS's Chat

    Good Morning Everyone!
I have been MIA it seems by the time I get the posts read something else comes up and I don’t get back to post myself.
Tricia had her booth at the craft show on Saturday. It went pretty slow due to the economy I think. I heard other vendors talking about it as I did my walk around ‘look see’. But she said she had a good time talking with people and has some better ideas about what people are looking for. She got an invitation to another show on Nov 15 so we are going to try to do a couple of things for that like some Christmas wall hangings. I will work on some of that today. So she still has a lot of quilts to sell but that is OK too. She plans to quilt at least one large bed size quilt before the other show.
Zora, I am excited for you about the new camper. I am sure you will enjoy it. We have not gone as much as we would like to this year because of the gas situation. A week ago you could hardly find any gas here and when you saw a station with gas to sell there were long lines of cars with the police trying to keep things in line. Yesterday when we were out most stations seemed to have only one grade of gas, but at least they had some. It is getting better but it sure makes you conserve what gas you have.
Jim and I got our flu shots yesterday so hopefully we will dodge getting sick this winter. We went to the CVS minute clinic and did not have to wait in line I guess because they are there to give them from 8am till 8pm every day.
I need to get the coffee on and this day going.
     I hope everyone has a pain-free day!
I am adding armloads of hugs, prayers and well wishes to the baskets this morning as I repeat the group prayer.
     Wishing Everyone A Happy Day!

    Good Morning Everyone,

Floyd is settled in the nursing home, he looked worse yesterday than I had ever seen him.   They did dress him and bring him down for Therapy, but he only lasted a few minutes.   He didn't want to eat, but by feeding him, I managed to get a piece of fish down him.   He slept after lunch and I couldn't bear to watch him any longer, so I came home.   In the morning I spent most of the time signing my life away, everything from what they should do with him if a natural disaster happens, to my financial statement.    I think I signed at least 30 papers.   What a great world it would be if they could eliminate half the paper work, and put that money into hiring more aides.

Today, our church has a "soup and game" time, so after the nursing home, I will go over there.

Anne, Tanner must be such a blessing to you!   He will keep you young!

We had our first killing frost last night, maybe the grass will stop growing now!

Zora, I can understand your excitement, I remember our first travel trailer, we had a great time with it!

Wishing you all a wonderful day,

    Mabel

    Re: 10/08/08 CS's Chat

    Top of the morning

Wishing you each a good start to this October day.

ANNE~~I sure got a big smile on my face when I saw one of your many creative ending wishes yesterday. I sure have missed you.

LOIS~~I am really sorry to hear that Tricia didn't sell more but hear a lot of vendors saying that this economy is hurting them big time. At the Cranfest there were a LOT of people but overall the vendors complained of sales being very slow.

Hopefully the November sale will be better. Wall hangings are an excellent idea....One thing my mom made and donated to a fundraiser that sold VERY well were hotpads and potholders.

Also the quilted "Hot Potato bags" are selling very well here.

ZORA~~~Can't blame you one bit for being excited about picking up your camper.

((((MABEL))))  Words aren't enough to tell you how badly I feel and how much I care.

Well, my doctor would not give me the flu shot yet. He said it's much too early to get them and that there is a high risk of not being covered by the shot long enough. These are just temporary fixes and they don't last long, with the high point of the flu season being in Jan. and Feb.  He also told me that it takes about 6 weeks after the shot to be in your system.

I've got news from him, I always wind up getting the flu right off the start so I'm not really happy about it. I'de rather get it now and take my chances later. He knows my background and knows I'm high risk with my lungs. After all this is to help fight the "respiratory" influenza.  grrrrr

Remember I told you that we were in shock over my brother asking to meet them????   Well it was a mixed bag of emotions last night. The big surprise was that my neice (from Hawaii) was home while my nephew is doing some training back in TX.  It was really nice to see her again and my parents were elated.

The real blow came after dinner....My brother told us he lost his job.

Friends, he has worked at this advertising company for 32 years and does things there that no one else can do. They have been letting a LOT of people go  for some time with the economy hurting big time (especially in advertising and commercial photography) but this came as a BIG shock. If they downsize so much that they loose one of their key people they are hurting. He said that he expects the place to go belly-up but was still reeling from what happened to him.  He is actually the only one who can fix their complicated photo computers and when he went in to "pick up his stuff" they were having problems and he just told them "Not my problem"

Also, he "owns" 32 years worth of photos all on his computer that they no longer have access to.

Well, I'm off to find coffee.

    TTFN~

    Tippy

Punchinello laughed, "Me, special? Why? I can't walk fast. I can't jump, My paint is peeling, Why do I matter to you?"

Eli...spoke very slowly, "Because you're mine, That's why you matter to me."

    Re: 10/08/08 CS's Chat

Good Morning from a wet GA.  It's been over a month since we've had any rain.  Went to a physical therapy facility yesterday and now wish I had gone to this place from the very beginning.  They seem so much more on top of everything than the lady that was coming to the house.  The PT put ice on my knee when he was done with me.  I was there little over an hour.  The pt that came to the house stayed maybe 30-40 minutes each time.  I'm going again today then 2 times next week.  Was going to go for 3 times but I go back to the Dr on Wed.  Will try for 3 times a week after that.  This PT said our goal was to get my knee back to 110% movement which isn't as much bend as my left.  He measured and said I was at 65% and right before I left he measured again and I was at 70%.  The home pt eyeballed it and said I was at 85%.

Slept real good from 9:30-12:30 then ended up taking a percocet around 2:30 and slept until the alarm went off at 5:30.  Will be going back to sleep here in a few.  I had called the Dr's ofc yesterday to ask if normal that my knee was quite warm yet and that I was running a fever now and then.  As far as the tape still on my knee the nurse said I could take it all off at night to let the air get to it.  It was bothering me some in the night - think the sheet might have irritated it some or because I woke and was laying on my stomach.

Tom said the bag of apples he bought the other day are starting to get bad on the bottoms and said maybe you can do something with them today.  Told him maybe a cobbler with a crumb topping that would be easier than trying to make a crust.  Will put Splenda in the apples - have some Splenda brown sugar so might try that in the topping.    Will check my books.  Will see what I can come up with.

Hugs and Prayers for All, Roberta :D

My son emailed me this morning and asked why I hadn't answered my phone.  I told him it had nt rung so perhaps he had called someone else.  Pretty soon he called, laughing, and said he had called my Peoria house instead of Fla.!

I'm sorry to hear about Floyd.  I know it is a worry.  You must take care of your own health and not let stress make you ill.

My dr. gave me a flu shot and I never heard about it being too early.  I thought Oct. was when the drs usually started.  Mine does.

I wore my wrist brace for the 1sr time last nite and it didn't bother me.  I don't think it will correct the bend but maybe will keep it from bending more and my hand does seem less stiff this morning.

Don't have a thing on the agenda so will veg out.  Nancy B

    Re: 10/08/08 CS's Chat

Morning…I did sleep some last night, thank the Good Lord. I am dragging and we are just starting…errrr!!!
Took forever at the Dr’s appt with Dad plus he had to get an X-Ray. He has so much pain from the plate & screws in his hip (broke it almost 3 yrs ago)….the socket is deteriorating and they would have to go in & take that out and do a full hip replacement if his primary drs ok it. We will see but last night he told baby sis that is HAD to be done…oh, my!!! Anyway, after getting him back home (we had LOTS of rain…some places had over 5”), I made him 2 eggs, grits, 2 strips of bacon, sausage patty, toast. He ate it and said he was SO full!! LOL I had to do a small load of clothes…he had blood all over his pajama bottoms…so got that done and left for the fairgrounds. It was slow all day…miserable sitting there and not that many people coming in…a few came in last night so that we couldn’t close early.
Have a council meeting this morning for Homemakers then out to the fair. I’m hoping a lot of the ladies will come out to the bldg after the meeting…
Zora, I need to go camping now…LOL I’m sure ya’ll will love the travel trailer!!
Anne, glad you had a good time at the movie!! It’s always so good to see the little ones laugh!!
Margaret E, DH & I are “caretakers” of this bldg at our fair. We open and close the bldg. and solve “problems”. We have community booths (ag booths), 4-H jr & sr club booths, homemakers booths (handicraft, machine needlecraft, hand needlecraft and miscellaneous), FFA (middle school & high school groups). There are 15’ community & FFA booths then the others are 8’. They pick a theme and make their booth around that. I’ve got some pictures of my sis’s booth from last year…when I have some time, I’ll try to post one. I am impressed with all the things people come up with each year (has to be different each year…)
Lois, we have missed you!! Glad DD had a good time but yes, it is a sign of the times!! We have found the same true with the coin shows. But the last show we did, gold coins were selling for investment purposes!! Overall, business is slow…for most things….
Mabel, sorry Floyd is not eating…bless his heart…and hugs to both of you…I know this is so hard for you. Glad you can go to the soup and game time today…enjoy!!
Tippy, hugs and prayers going to your brother and family…this world just scares me!! I hear ya about the flu shot…I heard 2 of the ladies talking yesterday about getting their shot…I don’t go back to my doc until the end of Oct…hope they still have some shots left!! After the fair starts, I’ll call them to check it out…We go to Dad’s doc Mon so he will probably get his then if they are here yet…
Roberta, so glad you have a good place for PT. Hope things keep progressing well for you.
Nancy B, that is funny about your son calling!! Glad the splint didn’t irritate you. Have a good day!!

Waving to all…filling the baskets with lots of hugs and prayers for all…

    Re: 10/08/08 CS's Chat

    Good morning, CS.

Lots of rain the last day and night, but some 70's are coming for a nice end of the week.

ZORA, your new acquisition will be a start of fun for you and Bob. Maybe you will have to try it out parked in your driveway.

ANNE, that's quite an errand list----hope you get it all done. The Diabetic Connection has quite a list of some good recipes. And, one of the girls made a nice index for the recipes.

MARGARET E, maybe you can post some of your cross stitch work. Love the falling leaves, but when the real ones fall in my yard, I may not be smiling.

LOIS, my friend who does craft shows, says sales are slow. She sells hooked rugs and they are expensive. Her best sellers are ornaments and small wall hangings. Same thing here, as TIPPY mentioned, people like quilted trivets and the baked potato bags go well, too.

MABEL, it is difficult to see your loved one not wanting to eat and have difficulties. I think you are the sunshine for his day when you go to visit. Enjoy the soup and game time. Know we all care about you.

TIPPY, I see your mixed feeling from the dinner with family. Nice to see your niece, but not good news for your brother.

Hi, ROBERTA, continue to work hard with the therapists, it really makes a difference to get your movement back to what's normal.

NANCY B, no problem with the brace is good. I find mine holding my hand in the one position does ease the pain.

CILLA, you are one busy gal. Just seeing your agenda tires me out. I bet the booths have real interesting themes.

Regular Wed. things here, quilting at church in the morning, handbell practice, later on.

Hugs and prayers for all CS.

    Nancy Z.

    Re: 10/08/08 CS's Chat

Good Morning everyone. Another wet day here, don't mind a bit as things were getting dry. I was having to water my winter garden.

We had a little excitement here. I never knew before that squirrels migrated until I noted their absence to a neighbor. I saw them across the creek but not on this side. Well this am Pickles set up such a commotion barking that we went to look. She had treed a squirrel on the power pole and the squirrel was going higher. I was getting on my shoes to go get the dog so the squirrel would not go any higher and get on the transformer. All of a sudden the squirrel dropped like a stone and hit the ground and the dog was on it. It managed to escape in the tall grass with the dog following it. The dog is now down in the woods barking her head off. Guess the squirrel made it after all. I sure thought it was a gonner when I saw it fall.

Mable, watch things very closely. We may be filing a law suit in regards to my moms nursing home. Mom is paying her own way so we watch the bills like a hawk. Last month my sister got a statement from a doctor where he had visited her 32 times in 30 days. Mom is stable and in reasonable physical health. Sis went to talk to the director and he was shocked. Seems as though as long as they are stable the policy is twice a month for the first 90 days and thereafter one visit every other month. BIL our family attorney wrote a very strong letter demanding an explanation from the DR as most of the vists were made by the nurse practicioner. They apparenty were trying to defraud Blue Cross and Medicare out of about three grand and were demanding another grand from mom for co-pays. BIL informed him that we were not paying it. They had also performed a bunch of unnecessary tests on her that no one had authorized.  Mom has three people scrutinizing everything and I don't expect they realized that since we don't live where she is that we would be watching so closely. BIL is ccing the letter to Blue Cross and Medicare. Makes me mad because how many other people has he done that to? The system can't afford it...that is for sure.

Tippy, I know how you feel, I live in mortal fear for my kids right now. DIL already lost her job. Fortunatly, no one is at risk of loosing their home..

Well, thinking of you all as I work away. Almost done with the princess stairs. Glass panels instead of ballisters. Feel very royal when decending. LOL.

Good afternoon from a wet Indiana, we got about a half inch of rain last night, just enough to keep DH out of the fields, good to have him home this morning.......of course now he's down in his shop.

Big hugs to you Mable........I'm thinking of you.

Just got finished cleaning our bedroom & doing a load of jeans.  Ran into town to go to the library.  Gotta go back this afternoon, big truck in the shop & they said it is done, DH needs me to take him in there to pick it up.

Laid out some hamburger from the freezer this morning, will fix some spaghetti for dinner this evening.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

    Good morning all,

I've been mia for a few days. Things are going on in the club that have kept me busy. Had a funeral to go to on Monday. Now there will another funeral probably on Fri. Our resident special gal that turned 101 in May passed away yesterday. I feel so sad as she was such a sweetheart of a gal. She only had 1 neice and 1 cousin left for family as she had never married.

After our usual coffee time today we went and got our flu shots. Now it's back home to do the usual stuff for the day.

Lois, my dd sells at craft shows a lot. She had a real big one in Sept and said she did quite well there. I haven't heard how her little shows are going. She is so busy I hardly hear from her at this time of year. She makes her crafts and does day care in her home and then sells on weekends so she isn't around to much.

Mabel, sorry to hear that Floyd isn't eating well. That certainly isn't my problem !! Hope he perks up a little.

Tippy, good you could see your DB and family but so sorry about his being laid off.

Roberta, sounds like the leg is improving. Keep doing the exercises.

Cilla, ever thought about taking a "me" vacation? Go stay in Zora's camper and don't tell anyone where you are going.

Nancy Z, I thought you were just a substitute for the hand bells. Do you just practice with them or are you a regular now?

Randi, thankfully when my DM was in a nursing home we had no trouble with billing or care. Of course one of us kids were there at least every other week for a couple of days at a time.

Need to go introduce myself to a vacuum cleaner. Have a good day everyone.

That darn dog barked at that poor little squirrel for three solid hours. Finally had to put on boots and slicker and tromp through the wood, put her on a leash and drag her home. She is unhappily in the basement drying off now. I never heard a dog go hoarse before. Will have to keep an eye on her. I kept reminding her she was a bird dog, not a squirrell dog. Of course if that had been a coon I would have called a neighbor to witness it and she would be eligible to be burried in the world famous coon dog cemetary
