Who else here sells on ebay?

    I'm looking for some input.

I have a friend who wants me to list something for her. It's 50/50 on anything I sell for her so this could be lucrative! I've already sold several items so far but this one is sort of ........different.

FYI, she does estate sales and has for the last 15 years. Everything that is leftover is either for the clean-up crew to take or she gets keeps it. She has picked up a few nice things...costume jewelry and some small ceramic stuff, junk or at least what most of us would think is junk. You'd be surprised at what people will pay money for.

Which brings me to the unusual item.

She's given me a ................human skull and some bones.

I know....ewww. The last place she did a sale the guy was in the medical profession. There is this plastic container which has a human skull and some bones. The bones are marked (left femur etc.) and some of the teeth have gold fillings.

I did a search on ebay and these skulls are going for around $300. I see that they are also listed "For Medical Research only".

I thought I'd be able to do it, but after seeing it, I'm getting the heebie jeebies. I figured out a solution though. My neice and her boyfriend could use some extra cash. I'm thinking I'll get him to "set" it up and I'll just shoot the photos. That way I don't have to handle it, LOL!

I'm just wondering though about ebay. I started wondering whether it's legal or within ebays policy to sell this. I contacted them, but they have transferred my question to another dept. since they didn't know how to answer it. I still haven't heard back from them and it's been a week.

My friend says just follow the example the other ones on ebay are doing and do the same. She figures the worst they could do is pull the item from auction.

I figure with the gold teeth, this should bring a little more than the normal ones.

Gad...........I can't believe I'm actually contemplating this. My hubby says I can do whatever I want, but he PERSONALLY thinks its wrong to sell the bones. That they should have been cremated or something. I told him how do we know that this person didn't donate thier body to science?

What do you think about ebay? Should I just go ahead and list it without waiting to hear from them? Do you think I'm being "unethical"?

Edited because I was wrong lol

    http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/remains.html

Humans, the human body, or any human body parts are not permitted on eBay. Items that contain human hair (such as lockets) as well as skulls and skeletons that are used for medical purposes may be listed on eBay. eBay does not permit the sale of Native American skulls, bones or other Native American grave-related items, as the sale of such items may violate federal law.

Oh come on tree. I know you can do better than that. I mean after all that rambling I did you have to give me more than a one liner, LOL!

Have you checked ebay? I typed in REAL HUMAN SKULL and I get like, 32 or so items. It really is kind of creepy. One of them is up to over $700!

I have an ugly brooch up for auction right now. Seriously, if I would have seen it at a garage sale, I would have passed it right by. It's a pin with three cherries on it and the leaves. Now, its pretty in that it's made well, but certainly nothing I'd ever get caught wearing. It's marked on the back and I did a little research on it. I put a reserve of $30 on it. Within the first hour it had been bid on and the reserve was met! Right now its up to $52 and there are over 100 hits on it and 31 watchers! I'm so curious to see what it goes up to. I googled it and this pin can go for $200-$300 dollars! Crazy! There is one tiny rhinestone missing, so if it goes for $125 I'd be happy!

They were obviously used for medical purposes so I say go for it.  Nothing unethical IMO.  The previous owner needed it for whatever medical experience/education so some newbie doctor needs it for a good price.

Well, heck, I see YOU found it, but ebay still hasn't got back to me!

Well, I'm putting it up for auction baby!!!!

By the way, that cherry pin I talked about finished up its auction on Saturday.

    Guess what it sold for?

    Go ahead guess!

    Ok, higher.

    Ok, higher.

    Try.......................................

    Wait for it..................................

    $493.87!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm doing the happy dance! Especially for something I looked at as ugly and probably would have not given it a second thought if I saw it in a box of junk jewelry at a garage sale.

I guess you know now, what I WON'T be doing! I'm going to look everything over with a fine tooth comb. I get half of that you know! This is coming in handy! Thanks for finding that for me. I'm going to have to bookmark the link in case they come back to get me!

How exciting!!   Is there a way to contact those that bid, but didn't win, on the other cherry pin?  Good luck.
