How about really pretty Christmas Tree Ornaments?

That would be a great idea for my coworkers because we have discussed what out Christmas tree 'themes' are.  Thanks for reminding me!

What about cake in a mug?
I love this idea, but (at the risk of asking what may be a totally stupid question Big Smile ) do you put the dry ingredients -- in the mug?  in a ziploc? -- and then give the person the mug, the dry ingredients and a copy of the directions?  (So they'd have to add the egg, milk, oil)?

When DD made these a couple years ago for her co-workers(who BTW LOVED them!!! )she took egg and oil and milk to work with her in case they wanted to do them right then!! she mixed the dry ingrediants and put in a ziplock with a ribbon and a copy of the recipe and directions that she did on a pretty Christmas card(she had saved fronts from the year before to make "tags" out of... so used those to make a recipe card! she found the 50cent mugs and had 20 gifts for CHEAP!  New office this year and she is doing them again for this crew!!!

    afg,

I'm gonna try this.  I'll take the milk, oil and eggs too.  We usually have an hour during nap time to have a 'planning period' and we can make them then!

    ~Fudge Cookie Cutter Gifts~

Use your favorite Fudge Recipe. Seal aluminum foil tightly around the outside base of each cookie cutter. Place on cookie sheet and lightly spray each cookie cutter with cooking spray. Pour hot fudge into prepared cookie cutters. Cool at room temperature. Once cool place each cutter inside a clear plastic bag and tie closed with homespun fabric.

Dalejr, this seems easy enough with some good reviews.

My mom had some yummy fudge out for Thanksgiving. When she told me how she made it, I couldn't believe it! Are you ready for this?????

That's it. Of course, I came home and tried it myself. So far, I've made
vanilla frosting with Andes Peppermint Crunch baking chips, chocolate fudge frosting with Andes Creme de Menthe baking chips,
and White chocolate almond frosting with white chocolate chips and slivered almonds.

My mom made vanilla frosting with peanut butter chips,
and a caramel frosting one but I forget what kind of chips she put in it.

This recipe is too easy not to try!

How about a package of pretty napkins?  Christmas or not, everyone uses them and if you go to the $ store, you can get them very reasonable. If you want to go a little more, add a package of matching paper plates.

Yes, you are right.  I had forgotten about something that simple.  For less than $5.00 I could get a whole table setting!

    Brigid,

Thanks for posting this question.  I'm going to do several of these things - I think everyone is tight on funds this year.  Besides, I appreciate homemade gifts more than store bought ones (of  course unless it's from DH)

Everyone could use a new calendar this time of year.

For an elementary school teacher who has to supervise recess, maybe some one-size-fits-all gloves (our hardware store has some cute ones for $5).

The Christmas potholders/towel sets at Wal-Mart aren't bad, also the Christmas bathroom towel sets.  I love to get those.  Useful and pretty.
