My son has requested "Puppy Chow", any tips?

Well I've had "Puppy Chow" many times but never braved to make it myself!  Any tips or recipes or whatnots so that I don't screw this up?

Here is a recipe I found in the archives:

     Puppy Chow
    1/2 c Peanut butter
    1/2 c Butter or margarine
    6 oz Chocolate chips
    10 c Corn Chex cereal
    2 c Powdered sugar

Melt peanut butter, butter or margarine, and chocolate chips in a saucepan over medium heat. Pour over Corn Chex, being sure that all cereal is coated. Put 2 cups powdered sugar in a large paper bag. Put cereal in bag and shake gently until all cereal is coated. Pour out on wax paper to cool.

Kim, I've only made this once myself but didn't have any problems with it. *Knock on wood* I think it's pretty hard to screw this one up!

Well that doesn't always mean anything in my world!  LOL   I just wondered, as in some recipes, there are little tips that make making this fool proof!

I'll give it a go!!!  Earlier this week I got three BIG boxes of Corn Chex on sale at K-Mart for $1.75 a box so I guess I'll be making ALOT of Puppy Chow!  LOL

The only thing I do differently is I use a large ziploc bag instead of a "paper bag".

I justed made some last weekend, and made a mess.  Use the biggest bowl you have to mix the cereal and the mixture.  and if you use a ziplock, make sure your bag's zipper doesn't pop open, like mine did.  or mix it in a paper bag, outside.

After mine is coated with powdered sugar (in the bag), I pour it into a big collander and shake over the sink until most of the extra powdered sugar has sifted through.

I wonder if maybe I should do what I do when I make the "Out of this World Party Mix".  I make so much of it that I used a (obviously clean and unused) garbage bag and gently mix it up.  Since I plan to make several batches of this Puppy Chow, maybe that might be the ticket.   I'm always leery when working with powdered sugar - I have visions of a "White Christmas" in my kitchen!  LOL

Here's how I make puppy chow.  After I mix everything together, I let it cool just a bit then I add Christmas M & M's for a little color. Suziee

    Angela’s Puppy Chow

    1 box Golden Grahams cereal

1 medium bag small twist pretzels

1-2 c. pecans or walnuts (whichever you like)

1 ½ lb. white almond bark

    **Christmas M&M’s

Spread cereal, pretzels, and pecans on a cookie sheet and bake at 250 degrees for about 10 minutes.

Melt almond bark in the microwave.  It’s easier to melt about half of it and then melt the other half.  Pour over mix after you get it out of the oven.  (I mix it in a huge bowl or foil turkey roasting pan.)  Make sure all is coated. Let cool and add M & M's.  Spread it on wax paper.  Let it dry and break apart.

Put it in a decorative bag or tin.
