    Chocolate wafers?

Alot of cheesecake recipies call for chocolate wafers for the crust. Are they talking about Oreo's crushed up or are there actually chocolate wafer cookies that you can buy? I've never seen just plain chocolate wafer cookies. I also didn't know you could crush up vanilla wafer cookies (the kind with the white filling in them) and use them for the crust. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you!

Nabisco makes them, but they're next to impossible to find nowadays. I did find a site that describes the sinfully delicious (and easy) *cake* we used to make with them, and it says you can order them from amazon http://www.amazon.com/NABISCO-FAMOUS-CHOC-WAFERS-CT/dp/B0002QF1NS (if you're really desperate and/or rich--they work out to about $1.25 per cookie Indifferent )

If you're just crushing them to use as a crust, I'm sure that Oreos would work just as well. You can also buy a premade chocolate pie crust, just like the graham cracker ones.

I think crushed Oreos will work fine.

I know they have to be relatively inexpensively obtainable somewhere around here because I have some right now. Problem is I have no clue where they come from only I know I didn't pay an arm and a leg for them because, well, I still have two arms and two legs. I googled it and found Bristol Farms has them. Also I came across some recipes to make them. I havent tried any so I dont know how they turn out. For most purposes oreo's should work fine, however, for a more elegant recipe, nothing will give quite the results of the plain wafers.

Around here the nabisco chocolate wafers are found along side the ice cream cones and toppings and are rather pricey. Chocolate graham crackers will work and are cheaper,
