Re: H L Topic of Week 12/15-12/21: Keeping Up with Exercise During the Holidays

Called dh just now, yesterday it was 72 there and today it is 25! That old 2 story house is cold, cant use a wood burning stove because there is something wrong with the chimney. The good thing about that part of TX is the cold weather doesn't last long, usually.

Muril I would think 12 was a lot of people. The last couple of times I have been there is only 1 person working, one is aways on break. Have fun tonight.  Also found out my son and his family want money for Christmas. Yea! After the cookie jar hunt I was dreading the thought of shopping. I know I told Muril, but I found a mouse cookie jar at a consignment shop, good condition, and that is the only one I could find.  The above typed is just like what my DMIL did, one long paragraph about different things. LOL  All her letter was like that, she just started writing, and kept going, wish I had kept some of her letters.

    All have a good evening.

Re: H L Topic of Week 12/15-11/21: Keeping Up with Exercise During the Holidays

     Hi everyboday

I'm getting on here later than usual - - - dh wasn't any better today - so we ended up in the doctors office for him - - - I'm suppose to bring Mom tomorrow - - - - -
I'm staying in the doctors offices so much this month - it will be a miracle if I don't catch this 'crud' - fingers crossed !!!
MURIL - that was a great article - thanks ~  Love the Santa  :)
I miss my workouts - haven't been able to do them for the past two weeks - and not suppose to do any this week - doctors orders - - - - - so having to be careful about what goes in my mouth with all of this cookie baking  :)
I almost got up and took a run this morning - in spite of what he said - I know I'm bad - - - but didn't get to anyway - because it was raining..........

I'm one of the one's that is Sad because I was Glad that Christmas was over!LOL   But I work myself to pieces - and am so tired by the time it's over - - - - I'm glad.
I love all of the baking and getting things ready though - so guess that's just the way it is.

HI DUSTA - - - thanks for looking for the recipe for me - - - - I would like to try those.  Be careful on the way back to TX - the weather has been yucky.  *or at least here it is*

    Hi MICHELE - :)

Hi JET - what kind of candies are you making?

Hi DAWN - I went to the grocery store this evening - got the rest of what I needed for all of my baking - - - hopefully I won't have to go back until after Christmas except for a couple of goodies for Christmas Eve night maybe.
People in our stores for the most part are in a good mood - - but like you said - they get in the isles and won't move.  But they smile at you...........

Hi PAMMIE!  Sorry to hear about your weather there !  But as long as you can have coffee - all is good.  :)
Good for you about re-joining the gym..  I miss the gym - - - and I always loved lifting too.  I do have enough here for my little muscles - so I do lift when I can -

Hi DEBBIE - thanks for letting us know about Jolene.  Poor thing!

(((Jolene))) hope you have electricity soon !

(((Ginny))) - Wow that CM sounds like a real keeper!!!  How nice of him to do all he did.  And I am sorry to hear you are feeling so bad, hope you feel better soon.

    Hi GRATEFULSERVENT  !

I made Mollycake's Banana Bread today - - - it is so good.  She sent it to us all one Christmas in our Christmas cards - - -- I will post it tomorrow for all of you.  It has become one of our favorites.  DH and I had some for lunch today with a little Peanut Butter on it - - - - while it was still hot out of the oven.  Yum.

Will check back tomorrow and type the recipe.

Re: H L Topic of Week 12/15-11/21: Keeping Up with Exercise During the Holidays

    Good Morning Healthy Ones!

Sherry, you are doing great. I do that with the sweets- I allow myself something sweet every day but in controlled portions. Last night, we had our Christmas dinner at church and we had some good homestyle food- choice of ham or turkey, mac-n-cheese, green beans, potato salad and rolls. For desserts there was an array of baked pies and cakes. I had turkey, small servings of each side and a roll with real butter. Then I had a slice of coconut custard pie(the pastors wife had baked it and she is a great cook). I had eaten fairly lite the rest of the day so think I did pretty good. I didn't deprive myself but didn't get seconds.

Dusta, there was only one person in line yesterday at the PO. They had two postal workers and the lady that helped me couldn't believe there weren't many there. I think they had a surge that morning though(as she told me)..it was lunch hour and I was sure there would be a lot of people mailing packages at lunch time. I bet the cookie jar is just too cute. We had a singer to entertain us at the Christmas dinner and he was really good- sang a variety of songs and one with the children and even told them a story too. We had loads of door prizes and DH won a Kroger gift card and I won a bottle of sparkling grape juice. :) DH said, well we can take that card to Kroger and get something to go with that(meaning the juice) and Amy(choir director-she and her DH and daughter sat at our table) cracked up. :)

Debi, maybe you are around so many of the germs, you are becoming immune to them. LOL Just stay rested ... I think when we get out of whack time wise, we get more junk. I know if I have burned the candle at both ends time wise- it is easier for me to catch a cold, etc. :( I have that recipe by Wendy(Mollycake) so will have to give it a try. She was so sweet to send us those recipe booklets that year. I miss her. Think I will shoot her an email and tell her so! :)

I am having my first cup of coffee so need to get going. I need to get a gift ready to send to my niece for a late B'day gift. Her B'day was close to T'Giving and was planning on giving it to her at Mom's but we didn't go because of the weather (and I had the sinus problem) ...oh well, better late than never. :) My cards are ready to go- got my HL ones ready and ones for the immediately family. I think I shared with Dusta- the family pic for our C'cards for family- our oldest son has a full beard and I told him he looks like Grizzle Adams. LOL ...makes him look older than he usually looks but he is so laid back- he really could care less. :)

Have a lovely day Healthy ones! I am off to Miss Nancy's today so I may need an energy drink when I get home tonight!!! :)

Good morning. It is cold here and we are going to have to get out, Mel has to go to the dentist. Getting out when it is cold is hard on his breathing. Then we are going to stop by WM for a couple of things, famous last words, a couple of things at WM.

Muril I must have miss read what you said about the line, I read it as around 12 people in line. I have always read crazy, I think I skip words. The po here, there is always a line, but when I mailed my ss there were 4/5 in front of me but when I left, maybe 10.

I have to start taking things to my car and wish I had started do that Sunday when it was warmer.  My DGD called me yesterday and she said she didn't want money for Christmas, she wants an electric blanket, HOT Pink, I told her I had never seen them in those bright  colors, but I would see.

Made salmon patties and baked fries last night, reminded me of my childhood, except for the baked part. I cook the salmon in an iron skillet in the oven too.

    Hi to everyone.

     Morning~!!

Dusta - yum on the salmon patties. I've got a cast iron skillet I use any time I make eggs, crab cakes & salmon patties. Smile   I may consider ups for shipping this year. I'm behind on sending boxes out!

Muril - you've been busy!!  great news about the p.o., It's hit or miss here too - sometimes the line is long othertimes you walk right up.

    Hi Sherry & Debi~!!

Ginny - hope you feel better and the results come back ok. We'll be thinking of you.

Jet - how is the weather today? Did the worst miss you?

Hi Michele! Hope you're feeling better (((((hugs)))))

hope Jolene & Pammie are doing ok today. Pammie - I'm glad you have some heat & power. My parents have a wood stove & more than once we've had the neighbors in during a snow storm/power outage to keep warm LOL!!  Gas stove is nice too - I have one now. Once in a while we'll get an ice storm & power will go out for a good part of a day. My neighbors know to come to our house for hot water & coffee :-)

woohoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  dh is better!!!  It's about da*n time LOL!!!  If I end up with this crud I'm going to scream Hmm  I"m so tired of someone being sick in the house LOL!!

    Goodmorning everyone !

It's cold here too - in the 30's.

MURIL - you might be right - about being around the germs so much that I'm immuned! LOL
No kidding, I worked for a doctor when I was in my 20's and I never got sick.  And that's what he would always say - we were immuned because of being exposed all of the time.
You sound like you had a great time last night at the Christmas party.  I have one to go to tomorrow -it should be nice.

DUSTA - - - yeah, I'm like you - - - - when I go to Walmart it's always more than I meant to buy by the time I get out of there.  :)
I've got to get Mom out for a doctors appt. today too - - - like Mel, she doesn't do too well in this cold weather - - - and it's only suppose to get up to the low 40's .

Well, I see dump trucks unloading loads of dirt across the street here - we are about to get some new neighbors - they're building a house.  My little dog is too curious - so I better go get him in before they dump a load of dirt on him!  LOL  He's in the big middle of it ALL !

    I'll be back........

Re: H L Topic of Week 12/15-11/21: Keeping Up with Exercise During the Holidays

Good Morning.  I'm going to stop listening to the weather people all together - lol.  They said it was going to be awful yesterday - NOTHING - not that I'm complaining but now they have started all over again predicting a mess today - guess we'll see.  My nephew had his concert band Christmas program last night - it was good - I only had to get up and leave once due to a coughing fit - sheesh - I'll be glad when I shake this once and for all.

    ((Jolene))

Dusa - I love to bake salmon patties - yummy - may have to make those soon as it has been a while.  Good luck finding a hot pink electric blanket and the cookie jar sounds great.  I'm like you at WM - walk in for 3 things and walk out with a cartload.  It's dangerous.

Dawn - Glad to hear DH is better - YIPPEE - WHOOP WHOOP!!  Now, like you said, don't you dare get it.

Muril - Have a great day with Miss Nancy.

Ginny - Sorry I missed your birthday last week - HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!!  Hope you get good news at the doctor today.  Glad CM is taking such good care of you.

    Pammie - Stay warm.  Cool

Jet - Hope you got all your baking/candy-making done.  Not sure what the weather will be today - stay safe.

Waving to Debi, Sherry, Kris, Beth, Jen, Debbie, Steve and anyone else I missed.  I need to get to work.  Have a great day.

Re: H L Topic of Week 12/15-12/21: Keeping Up with Exercise During the Holidays

Hi, everyone.  Got our power back yesterday afternoon.  I spent most of the evening picking up the aftermath....what a mess my house was in!  DH did laundry, and Ol' Prince did the dishes, but I had a lot of other chores to catch up on, once I got back from the grocery store.

Tonight I'll hit the gym, and then home for supper.  I marinated some steaks for the grill, and the princes were a-drooling over that!  I probably won't get my tree up till Saturday, but I should get my cards out by tomorrow.  This year I managed to decorate a bit, and last night when I got home, Lil' Prince had bought me a really cute tart-warmer between two skinny snowmen!  It smelled of cinnamon, which is a nice change from the sweat and testosterone that I usually smell in my house!

DH told me that Jolene's town was one of the hardest hit communities during this storm.  It's not near a big metropolitan area, mostly a residential community, which means they are sometimes the last people to get power.  There were power trucks from other states here (Michigan, for one) that are helping us out.

It was so nice last night to read before bedtime with my lamp, and not a flashlight duct-taped to the headboard!!!

I'm going to our Medical Information Manager's holiday meal today.  The boss said we could have a 'drink'.  OOOH boy!  I probably won't, my luck would be that someone would rat me out and I'd get fired!  (not supposed to drink during work hours).  What a stupid rule!  LOL.  They should meet the construction workers my DH works with!  Some of those guys have a six-pack for lunch, and the rest of them go out and smoke a big fatty.  (that 's how some of them get the courage to climb up on the high steel).  Even with the drug testing that goes on, they still take a chance.  The union is cracking down, but it's kind of part of their culture.  I told DH if he ever got hurt on the job because someone was drunk, I'd own the construction company.  It scares me to think about it.

Ok, I confess...I dug out my cookie recipes.  Twelve of them, and am kind of thinking about making a few varieties, to bring a cookie platter to my staff next Monday.   Someone talk me out of it!

It's a bit cooler today, in fact it was spitting snow on my way into work.  I keep searching jobs in Florida.  I saw one in Gainesville, at the University of FL medical center.  DH is all ready to go, but I wanted to wait another four years when our house is paid off.  I did interview at Orlando, but the salary was half of my current salary (choke*choke*).  Even with the lower cost of living, I had some difficulty with that number.

Hi Ginny,  I had the ablation two years ago....piece of cake and no more TOM!

Dawn, got your card.  Give Samanthat a hug.  She's a sweetie~!

Sherry, sounds like quite a workout at work!  Doesn't it make you feel good to keep active?

Muril, have you thought about your Maine vacation yet?  LOLOL

Dusta and Debbie, I envy your TX weather!

Hi to Michele, Jet, who'd I miss?  Have a good day!  PammieJ.

    Here is the recipe I promised you all - - - -

    It was originally from Mollycakes - - - - - Thank you Mollycakes !!!

    BANANA BREAD

    5 T butter
    ½ C granulated sugar
½ C firmly packed brown sugar
    1 large egg
    2 egg whites
    1 t vanilla
    1 ½ C mashed ripe bananas
    1 2/3 C flour
    1 t baking soda
    ½ t salt
    ¼ t baking powder
    1/3 C heavy cream
    1/3 C chopped walnuts

Preheat oven to 350. Spray bottom only of a 9X5X3 inch loaf pan w/nonstick cooking spray.  Beat butter in large bowl with an electric mixer set at medium speed until light and fluffy.  Add granulated sugar and brown sugar; beat well, add egg and egg whites and vanilla; beat until well blended.  Add mashed banana, and beat on high speed 30 seconds. Combine flour, baking soda, salt and baking powder in med. bowl.  Add flour mixture to butter mixture alternately with cream, ending with flour mixture.  Add walnuts to batter; mix well.  Pour batter evenly into prepared loaf pan.  Bake until browned and toothpick inserted near center comes out clean, about 1 hour 15 minutes.  Cool bread in pan on wire rack 10 minutes.  Remove from pan; cool completely on wire rack.  Slice and serve w/butter and jam.

I cut back some on the sugar
I use two eggs instead of the one egg and 2 egg whites
I also just use milk instead of the heavy cream
    I use 1 C of chopped walnuts

    AGAIN - - - - Thanks Mollycakes

    Hello everyone!

Yumm! that banana bread sounds good!!!!! :)

Hello Muril! I will add some recipes when I know how they turn out.....LOL I got most of the recipes off the BB. and then some I have made up on my own.

    Last night I made..

    Maple walnut fudge (my favorite!)

eggnog fudge (still debating this one....waiting to see how it sets up)(new recipe from BB)

peanut brittle (this is a PITA to make! LOL)

    white crunch (my own recipe)

    I still want to make....

pumpkin truffles (new recipe from BB)

    chocolate dipped pretzels

    peanut clusters

    peanutbutter balls

I was hoping for a snow day today so I could get some more baking done.....but the forcast was wrong again! We still havn't gotten anything! Grrrrr!!!! Tonight will be my last night to get candy done, and then I will start on cookies on Friday. Tomorrow we have caroling with the church group at Nursing homes and then Thursday there is a school program that I will be going to. So tonight and Friday night is all that I have left. Sometime in between I need to get my turkeys out to thaw for Christmas Day. And then I need to do some cleaning. LOL Dh WILL be HELPING out in that department! LOL I am just hoping that my health problems don't surface during this time.

Michele hope you can get over your cold/cough! DH has been having sinus problems lately. I think its from the dry heat from the furnace. I have been running a fan at night and that has helped me breathe easier.

Pammie glad you have your power back! Hope Jolene gets her back soon too!

Dawn glad your dh is better! Thanks for the picture and note! :)

Hello to Dusta and Debbie! Its VERY cold here too! Salmon patties sounds good....I was actually going to make some today for lunch, but was out of salmon....forgot to pick some up at the store.

    Waving to anyone I missed!

Recipes look good. My DGM use to make banana bread, but more often applesauce cake, I don't know what the recipe called for on the pecan part, but she used 4 cups. She let it sit for a few days after she made it and improved the flavor, also got more moist. When I get home, if I do I make make it this year. Mother called and said there was 3 inches of  ice. In TX they sprinkle a little sand on the bridges and called it covered. Really don't have bad weather that often so they don't do much, tell people to stay home. Mother said every old person in Sherman gets out when it gets slick.

Is Jen's part of the country covered in ice and snow too?

Jet hope you stay healthy too, and all the rest of you.

Sent WW an email about lowering my goal weight, they said call the 1-800#. Don't know why they didn't just say yes or no.

Re: H L Topic of Week 12/15-11/21: Keeping Up with Exercise During the Holidays

    Good Evening!

Well, we got a lot done today but Miss Nancy was all tuckered out(although I did all the work, lol) when I left. She seems to have some fluid on her ankles and I made her put her feet up and she was napping when I left. She will know Thursday about the results of the tests on her kidneys. Her son is meeting her at the Dr. and so hopefully they will find out what gives. She doesn't have much energy but we did go out for lunch at Wendy's. She had the nuggets and forgot that she had had them before at McD's when we went out- I was disapointed but didn't say anything. I have to remember that she is 87 and sometimes forgets. :( She thoroughly enjoyed them(with honey mustard dipping sauce, a few fries and a chocolate frosty) though and that is what counts. :)

Dusta, good luck on finding a hot pink electric blanket. There may be one out there. :) Drive safely going home. LOL, your Mom has a great sense of humor. :)

Dawn, yeah on DH being better! Don't you get it! Orders from headquarters! LOL

Debi, How did your Mom's Dr. appt go and was there any sick people in the waiting area? Duh, what a question. :( Like you said, you have immunity and can't get any germs! Keep repeating that phrase for good measure! :) Thanks for posting the banana bread, YUM!

Michele, I hate to get a coughing fit! :( Have you been to the Dr. just to make sure it isn't a sinus thing?

Pam, I never thought of duct-taping a flash light to the headboard. :) You are so creative. I would have lit a dim candle and wondered why I couldn't see well enough- well they use candles on Little House on the Prarie. lol Well, the ice storm that you just had put a damper on our Maine vacation ideas. lol We have been lucky and every time we get much precipitation- it is pretty warm. We got lots of rain today. Please share you favorite cookie recipes on the cookie thread! We need more, more, more! See, I am no help in getting you to not bake- bake but don't eat or eat sparingly... :)

Thanks Jet, I will check out the recipes! They all sound great!

Ginny, wishing a good report from the Dr.

(((Jen))), Glad you are not iced in! Jen sent me an email this morning(just got it since I had already gone to Miss Nancy's )... said she had been sick and busy all weekend and didn't got to work yesterday (still sick) so wouldn't be on our the board today. Stay warm and get better Jen!

Ok, going to check out Jet's recipes and then check out the C'mas movies!

    Have a relaxing evening!
