Have to share this : Vinegar is the answer

White vinegar takes stains out of carpets like you can not believe.  Apply the vinegar by spray bottle Ideaor a well soaked rag with the vinegar , make sure you soak it well.  Take a clean dry cloth and scrub the area with great vigor and most all stains will come up, especially kitty stomach spills. What a great idea-- I will try it to! I use vinegar in my dishwasher, in the little door where we are supposed to pour the stuff that decreases the spots on glasses- white vinegar works great  for that! When I first open the door after the cycle runs, I get a very faint whiff of vinegar, but this subsides quickly and  I cannot taste it on the dishes!!

    Hi Caribou!

I am new on this community site-am usually over on the Budget site.  Hope you all don't mind me checking in on you.  LOL  This site is filled with wonderful tips, so I will probably be back very often!

I am so grateful for your information.  I have an older kittie who has a very sensitive stomach and occassionaly leaves me a very untidy "hairball" in the middle of my light carpet.  And of course, you don't find it until it is almost dry!  I have filled a spray bottle with white vinegar and am ready for the next "oops"!  Thanks so much for this information.

It's true!  I had red fruit punch spilled on my baby blue carpet.  NOTHING took it out until I tried this.  Sometimes takes a bit of elbow grease depending on the stain, but it's worth it!

after you've sprayed the spot with the vinegar, do you then spray with water to get the smell of the vinegar out of the carpet? "THE HUSKER KID"

after you've sprayed the spot with the vinegar, do you then spray it with water to get the vinegar odor out of the carpet? I'm really going to try this! Thank you! "THE HUSKER KID"

No you don't have to spray it with water - it may smell for a few minutes, but the smell goes away rather quickly.

Another thing vinegar is good for (you can use cider vinegar or white) - put in a small bowl up high on top of a cupboard or entertainment center or somewhere higher up and it will take odors out of the air in the house.  :)

Another good use for vinegar is to clean the grime out of your birdbath.  In the evening empty the water out, fill with vinegar, cover and the next morning empty out the vinegar and hose out with fresh water.  Any vinegar residue will not harm the birds.

You can also use it to mop hardwood floors. If you don't have Murphy's wood cleaner (which is the best!), mix a bit of warm water with vinegar. Use a mop especially for this type of floor though. They have the ones with cloth that sticks to the bottom by velcro.

I use Vinegar for almost everything. I use it to mop floors, the floors shine plus if you have pets it helps clean the air. I use it in my floor scrubber and I get great smellig carpets. Cleans spots of sinks. I even put alittle bit in the dogs bath, makes them have shiney coats and dont have that wet dog smell.  A Pyatt    Millington, Tn.

I have two labs who love to play in mud puddles and they smell bad when they are done. I put full strength white vinegar in a spray bottle and spray them and spray the carpet and furniture. My house never smells like wet dog.

Thanks for the tip.  I will try it.  Another benefit would be the cost savings, and possible health benefits of not injesting whatever Jet Dry is made from!
