General question about Simple and Delicious

I am a subscriber to TOH and I have wondered about Simple and Delicious.

Can you tell me a bit about what it is like?  Is there enough difference between the two to be worth purchasing the second subscription?  Are the recipes healthy?  Are they really that simple?  I need easy! LOL!

I appreciate any comments that you have to share about your experiences with this publication!  Thank you so much!

Re: General question about Simple and Delicious

I subscribe to all three Reiman cooking magazines (TOH, S&D, and Healthy Cooking). I find each of them to be different and I always find recipes to try in all of them. Simple & Delicious always has yummy, quick and easy recipes. Yes, you will find healthy recipes there as well as recipes for two. Here is a recent recipe I prepared from Simple and Delicious and it was a huge hit at our house. It is now a regular that I fix often. I doubled it when our son and daughter in law came over to eat with us.

    Bacon Jack Chicken Recipe

    Bacon Jack Chicken

Pepper Jack cheese adds extra warmth to this golden brown chicken topped with tender veggies and bacon. It cooks in no time, and you can vary the flavor by substituting different cheeses. Dawn Jones - Cedar Vale, Kansas

    SERVINGS: 2

    CATEGORY: Low Carb

    METHOD:

    TIME: Prep/Total Time: 30 min.

    Ingredients:

    • 2 boneless skinless chicken breast halves (4 ounces each)
    • 1/4 teaspoon seasoned salt
    • 2 tablespoons butter
    • 3 bacon strips, halved
    • 1/4 cup sliced onion
    • 1/4 cup sliced fresh mushrooms
    • 3 ounces pepper Jack cheese, shredded
    • 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese

    Directions:

Sprinkle chicken with seasoned salt. In a nonstick skillet, cook chicken in butter over medium heat for 5-6 minutes on each side or until juices run clear; drain. Remove and keep warm.
In the same skillet, cook bacon over medium heat until crisp. Remove to paper towels to drain. Saute onion and mushrooms in drippings. Return chicken to the pan. Top with bacon, onion, mushrooms and pepper Jack cheese. Cover and let stand for 2-3 minutes or until cheese is melted. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Yield: 2 servings.

Re: General question about Simple and Delicious

I have been a loyal subscriber to Taste of Home for years now. I love the magazine and would look forward each month to finding it in my mailbox. The recipes were always delicious and I knew that I could trust them. But I would usually only use them for special dinners, like when company was coming or holidays or things like that.

Then I got a free issue of Simple & Delicious and let me tell you I had a new favorite magazine. I make almost every recipe. There are snack recipes, lunch recipes, breakfast recipes and dinner recipes. Freezer meals, crockpot meals, special desserts and cookies.

I still love my Taste of Home magazine but I'm crazy about my Simple & Delicious magazine. I get my moneys worth and more out of both of these subscriptions.

Thank you both for your response to my question!!  I appreciate hearing both of your comments! I think that I will apply for a sample issue and give it a try.

And MarineMom/Joan, thank you so much for including the recipe.  It looks like something my family would enjoy as well!  I will be giving it a try.  Why sides do you think go best with it?

Thank you again!  Have a blessed day!

I served it with green beans, a fruit salad, and a baked potato. You could serve it with broccoli or any veggie for that matter. I also served some garlic Texas toast with it, too.

Hope your family enjoys it. It's a keeper at our house.

Simple and Delicious is my favorite of the TOH publications.  The recipes seem to be more healthy, easy and quick to make.  I also enjoy that there is a slow cooker section in each issue.
