     Dear Beckie,

Welcome.  Hope we can help you for what you are looking for.

If you don't get much action here in Budget  Living - jump on over to Kitchen Chat or Recipes for more action.  We are a great group - just slow sometimes.

    Welcome to the group, Beckie.

You will find lots of good ideas on this site, either here or one of the kitchen groups.  We are a very congenial group and I think you will like the ideas that this group has.  Please don't be afraid to ask-someone usually has the answer.  Smile

I live east of you-just north of Detroit (40 miles or so) on Lake St. Clair, so we share a lot of the same weather.  I also have two kitties, Snowy Rivers and Snickers who run my life pretty much.  Snowy's picture is featured on my message.  I also have a yellow lab who tries to "rule" the kitties, but we know who runs this house, and it sure isn't the dog!!  HaHa!

Be sure to check a lot of the backpostings-there is a wealth of information there.  I am fairly new to the group, but I really enjoy talking to everyone here.  They are a great bunch!

    Re: New here....

Welcome, Beckie! I too have 2 cats...Glinda, with emerald green eyes and Midnight, a black cat with golden eyes. We adopted them in December from the humane society. They are great! Midnight will sit at our French door and look outside and chatter. She also sits in the window close to me when I iron and talks to me.

On a sad note, we had to put our 13 year old Siberian Husky, Sasha, down yesterday. My boys are still sad and miss her. She was having trouble walking and we think she may have had a stroke. It's really weird not having to take her for a walk. Sad

    Re: New here....

Hi Beckie,       I too have a cat story. My husband and I are temporarily living an another state, one more yr. We have a whole herd of stray/wild cats, of all ages that we have befriended. We have managed to tame 3 so we can pet them. And, it's the time of yr. of babies, so we also have some of those. Our proudest moment, when one of the  mamas brought her two babies to our doorstep and chose to raise them here. We keeep them fed, and they give us a lot of joy and entertainment. Don't animals always know what we need?   Welcome to the Forum.

    Welcome to you Becky!

Buffetfan I am so sorry to hear of your loss.  I'm not sure if you've heard of the book called Dog Heaven by Cynthia Rylant.  I work for a vet clinic and we hand them out to families with children who have to euthanize their dogs (there's also a Cat Heaven.)  Its a beautiful book that helps deal with the loss of a pet!  I read mine often and still sniffle a little!  You could look for it at a book store or try and find it at Amazon!

    Re: New here....

Yes,animals do have a way of knowing what we need.I've never had a cat yet who didn't jump on my lap or come around when I was crying or upset about something and look at me as if to say,"are you all right,mommy?"Soooooooooo....sweet!They sound like wonderful books kmg.But I'd be afraid it they would make me choke up even more...[:'(]I think I'm too much of an animal lover for my own good.My cats are 17 going on 18,and I'm just dreading losing them. They've been with me through thick and thin.

    Have a wonderful 4th everybody!Be safe,

    Beckie
