***Prayer Circle Friday June 5, 2009***

    The Places of Deepest Darkness

    By Leah Adams
    Guest Writer

CBN.comDo you need to know that the Lord has not forgotten about you? Are you desperate for a glimmer of hope in a world that seems to be falling apart? In Psalms 23 we find assurance that the Lord never leaves us.

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff they comfort me.”  Psalms 23: 4

The Hebrew word used for “shadow of death” is ‘salmawet’ and it means deep darkness. Most Christians would say that it is easy to believe that God holds us tightly when things are going well.  But what about those times of deep darkness? It doesn’t feel quite as certain does it? God tells us here that we do not have to fear evil in that valley because the One who made the valley, the One who allowed the shadow, the One who allowed the deep darkness is always with us.

I am reminded of Moses and how he had led those griping, complaining, moaning, mumbling Israelites out of Egypt and toward the Promised Land. He had been faithful to God, yet the Israelites seemed to constantly be testing God.

Eventually God’s patience wore out with the Israelites and He tells Moses to take the Israelites on to the Promised Land but that His Presence would not go with them. In his despair, Moses pleads with God to not send them on without His Presence. God finally relents and agrees to go with them. Moses asks God to show him His glory, perhaps as a sign of good faith.

Exodus 33: 19-23 gives us the Lord’s reply to Moses:

“And the LORD said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the LORD, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.  But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live.” Then the LORD said, “There is a place near me where you may stand on a rock.  When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by.  Then I will remove my hand and you will see my back; but my face must not be seen.”

Could it be that in our darkest times, when we are going through that place of deep darkness, when we think that God has completely abandoned us—could it be that He simply has placed us, like Moses in a cleft in the Rock and He has His hand over us while His glory is passing by?

Psalms 23: 5 gives us even more reason to remember that God has not forgotten about us.
It says, “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies, You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.”

Did you get that? Picture a wonderfully prepared table with all the finest food, the most beautiful china, the most exquisite crystal. Imagine that you are the guest of honor and Jesus is your host.  Jesus leads you to your seat; you place the delicate linen napkin in your lap and gaze at the tablescape.

Jesus looks at you and eagerly asks, “Do you like it?  I prepared it just for you!  Taste it all.”

Your anticipation is almost too much to bear. You begin to try the food and find it to be the most delicious food you have ever tasted. The entire meal and setting are luxurious and the unbelievable thing is that Jesus did all that just for you.

Oh, but wait, who is that slouched over in the corner? It’s your enemy, Satan, and he doesn’t look at all happy, especially since he seems to be tied to his seat. Jesus, the One who died for you and who will never lose or abandon you, has spoiled you rotten right in front of your enemy and forced Satan to sit there and watch.

When you and I are in those places of deepest darkness we can be assured that God has His hand over us and that He makes certain the enemy of our souls knows that we are His beloved. Rejoice! If you know Jesus as your Lord and Savior you truly are His beloved!!

Wow, Treasa, 5 double batches of cookies, my fingers would be frozen.

DH wants on the computer so I don't know when I will be able to get back here.

    Patty, I loved this lesson.

Double wow Treasa! I'm impressed at your self control while baking, because I know you are keeping that weight off.

Tessa just left with everything except her hope chest. We'll get that up to her after she gets back from all her traveling this month. She'll be all over the place. They leave for Alaska on Saturday.

Please pray for Evan and Bethany as they fly back from England tomorrow. Bethany posted some gorgeous pictures of Norway on Facebook.

I need to run to the store and get John some allergy meds. He's miserable. Have a good evening! Deb

    Patty,

Good lesson.  It is so true that in the darkest times we cannot see how God is protecting us until later.

    Deb,

You sure do have a travelling family!!!!  Praying for safe travel.

Need to go read yesterday's PC.

    Lori,

I have been there and know how you feel.  It seemed like the more I prayer the worse it got.  I kept praying----sometimes, okay a lot of the time, not much----but I persisted.  Things are a little better but I finally have some peace and trust.  I am continuing to pray and I am praying a lot now.  Stick with the religious reading and try to persist in prayer.  I will hold you and yours in prayer.  Things aren't a lot better here but since I am not frantic and upset all the time it makes things better.  The problems remain but  I am continuing to pray for them.  It's an awful way to feel but God does understand and loves you and is holding you close even though you don't feel it.  I am saying this to remind myself for when I feel like this again.  Hugs and prayers.

    Fay,

Hope the car is okay and Eddie is doing better.  Please keep us posted.

Kaye, Linda, Randy, Annie,  and all.

    Any news on Charlie?

Another good one, Patty!   It made me think of this old but good song by Fannie Crosby:

    1. A wonderful Savior is Jesus my Lord,
      A wonderful Savior to me;
He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock,
Where rivers of pleasure I see.
      • Refrain:
He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock,
        That shadows a dry, thirsty land;
He hideth my life in the depths of His love,
And covers me there with His hand,
And covers me there with His hand.
    2. A wonderful Savior is Jesus my Lord,
      He taketh my burden away,
He holdeth me up and I shall not be moved,
He giveth me strength as my day.
    3. With numberless blessings each moment He crowns,
And filled with His fullness divine,
I sing in my rapture, oh, glory to God!
For such a Redeemer as mine.
    4. When clothed with His brightness transported I rise
To meet Him in clouds of the sky,
His perfect salvation, His wonderful love,
I’ll shout with the millions on high.

Now I'm on my way to bed--Hubby has another Dr. app. in the morning.  He has to see the Diabetic Eye specialist for a check up.

Giving God Praise that our floor is about done--worker just has to come back and jack up a low spot!  But he tore the closet floor out yesterday and then got it all put back in yesterday and today.  He even put in a remnant of our carpet that we had stored.  Did a great job!  :))

Lori, DO NOT LISTEN to old slewfoot!  Don't give up; just keep on praying!   Hugs!

Now I can't greet Everyone individually so I'll just wave "hi" to each of you!   And send gentle hugs!

Have another prayer request:  Remember my cousin, Bobby, who was raised with me?   Well he has had a return of his cancer  and needs our prayers as he goes through Chemo AGAIN.  He's also getting with a medical study who has had good survival rates.

Thanks for your prayers for Hubby!   And now I need to get in bed--have already fallen asleep a couple of times.

Praying for all and for those on your hearts.

    God Bless!  Nite Nite!

Thanking God For All He Has Provided!

Deb, I am also praying for your "travelling" family, prayers for John too.

Lori & Pat, I believe God was showing me something when I was reading Lori's broken heart & it is that Your Faith is working!!!!!!   You are standing up & resisting the enemy & putting your faith to work. It was such a revelation to me that I was rejoicing in Jesus & just had to share it with you. Halleluia. It might seem & feel like a terrible time but God is developing your (our) faith & we are cooperating with Him.  Giving glory to God for all He has done despite the circumstances & how things may look on the outside but inside we are changing from glory to glory.  May He be praised forever---Amen.

Fay, praying for Eddies eye Dr. appt tomorrow & praying for you all.

    Hugs,   Patty

Hi All!  Wonderful lesson, Patty!  It is such an encouragement to be reminded of God's constant attention and love, because it is those hard places when it is so hard to know He is still there.

Praying for Lorith, especially, that God would be near to her.

Praying also for Patty, Bobby, Shannon, Eddie, Tom, Fishin, Charles, and others who are in need of God's healing touch.

Praying also for Tessa as she leaves home maybe for good, that God will be with her guiding and guarding, and that God will also be with Deb.  Praying Dorian sees his way clear to ask that girl to marry him soon!  Praying also for safety for both Tessa and Dorian, and Evan and Bethany as they travel.

Well Friday is Bek's last day at school.  She has her 3 hardest finals. Praying her recall is good for all she needs to know.

We had some pretty amazing thunder, lightning and winds this afternoon.  Jess was at her tennis academy and they had to quickly pick everything up and go inside to finish the day.

God bless each of you today!

Oh, Oh, Mari, I assume you're not feeling too good today.  Tell everybody that you're going to put your feet up.  If they want lunch, they know how to make it.  (If they don't, it's a really good time to learn)  If anybody brings to your attention that the carpet needs vacuuming, tell them they know where the vac is.  Dear Sister in Christ, please take care of yourself; the rest of the family SHOULD know how to take care of themselves.

    :o)

I have spent soooo much time outside taking care of the gardens and helping my friend take care of her's also that I had a mountain of ironing to do yesterday.  That mountain still looks rather large, so guess what I'm doing today also.

I'm soooo concerned about those that we haven't heard from for a long time.  They're dealing with serious health issues; and when they go silent, I always fear the worst.  Please, please someone let us know how they are.

For all the people who truly know me, thank you for all your kind words the other day.  Three or four years ago DH told me that we don't have any friends because nobody liked me.  Now, I "knew" that wasn't true, but it sure hurt me.  He told me that I talked about "me" too much and nobody cared for it.  I got on the phone and called "everyone" and apologized, and everyone of them said, "What are you talking about?  You have nothing to apologize for.  We really like you and enjoy being around you."  It really makes me sad that my DH doesn't want to be one of my friends.  I don't know why, either.

How's our Eddie and Tom today?  I pray that if the doctors find anything, it can be easily fixed; but I truly pray that they don't find anything.

I truly agree with you gals that diabetes is a cruel disease and it's hard to take care of.  I just urge you to take the very best care of yourselves so that you don't suffer the consequences.

Well, off to the races.  I've yakked enough.  Will keep each one of you in my prayers.  Have a good one.

    "Me"
