    Canadian Corner 06/23/09

    Good Morning Friends,

Well I have to say the heat is here, today 30C, tomorrow 32C we have to be careful what we ask for eh? I don't like it that HOT.

I know some people will love this, not me.

Back to work for me today, yesterday had a day off but did work around here...it never ends.

Hope the clients have the a/c on, I even sweat in the winter time.

Pat, did you get any rain yet? I sure hope it will get there soon.

Aleida, what are you doing today? Nice that you enjoyed yourself yesterday.

Gramma are you all settled in? Are the pictures hung?  everything in it's right place? Sit back relax and play with Tucker.

    Have a great day everyone,

    YF

Good morning Maria.  30º is hotter than I like it also.

Today there is nothing I have to do.  I'm going to try to make that fruit bread and see how I do when working alone.  And of course I think I will go outside and pull some more unwanted green stuff.  I shall also plan on some sitting around because can't do that in the rain nor the snow.

Having a smoothie for breakfast, getting DH's lunch -- some of it anyway -- together and then a coffee.

I'll try to pop in again but summertime is outdoor time

Hope they have the A/C on for you Maria

Good morning to all who follow -- wonder who is typing as I type??

     Morning,

Rains are still going north or south or to the east of us or staying west.  In otherwords, we are still dry, dry, dry.  We have had those very close to 30 temperatures for a week or more now.   Even the dandelions are crispy!!

Mom had her first cataract removed yesterday.  The other eye is scheduled to be done next month.   My sister from Ottawa came to stay with Mom this week.  DH and I are planning on heading in all day Thurs--deliveries, celebrating a birthday lunch, and visiting.

I have three paperwork tasks to tackle today.  If I get them finished, I'm caught up temporarily.  Wahoo, that is a rare happening.

Off to find some brekkie.  I think eating on the deck sounds pleasant while it is still cool.  I don't like the heat either.

    Happy Tuesday.       Pat

Good morning! I think having breakfast on the deck sounds really nice Pat! Talked to Ric last night. It is pretty soggy in Halifax right now. Not sure when it is going to stop! We miss him but Cameron has been such good company for me! He is such a sweet kid.

Hope everyone has a great day!

    Good morning all,

I thought I'd pop in before I hit the ditch with the mower. We do our stuff early in the morning & late in the evening. I finished the hoeing when it was shady in the garden last night & now to the mowing.

We had  a little storm with not much rain last night and it actually cooled us down 2-3 degrees from yesterday. LOL  But no complaints. This is my season. I'll do my complaining when ya'll are bragging about the cool weather that you have. LOL yes, I'm wimpy, wimpy when it comes to the cold.

Well, off to mow. Be back on breaks.

Cathy, I posted the recipes for you yesterday.

Good morning.Well we came home last night. Mom is failing, but her stats were better yesterday than when she went in to the hospital. I tried yesterday to feed her some lunch but she just can't seem to swallow anything. I can't think she will last much longer but you never know. We will go back down in a day or so.  We will also likely have her apartment to clean out, will wait and see what happens.

I was surprised last night to see this board up and running. I had tried to get on it yesterday morning and got nothing. But I see where some of you were on it before that.  Just my computer I guess. I still can't get into the BYC board.

I have to take Keisha into the dentist this morning so she will not be going to school this morning.  I will look for the recipes later.

Hope everyone has a good day. Thanks for the caring words, friends. BBL  Dolores

Good morning.  Today is the ladies breakfast out in the gardens at my mom's house.  We wanted to do it last year, and we could never find a day that suited everyone in the group, so this year, screw it, we set a date, if you can't make it, that is your loss!   So it will be a much more small group, but that is okay too.  I've got strawberry cream french toast.  it's a recipe from a B&B from Victoria, I'll give you the recipe and comments AFTER the breakfast!

YF, well, you lasted till the end of June, guess that's better then the other years, when this heat would come so early.  Your lucky your clients have AC, if you lived here, they would not.  I do not know of anyone that has AC, we are a tough breed, we just survive!  Of course, we all know that the temps plummet in the evening.  So we don't have to suvive too long.

Dolores, I'm so sad that this is what your going thru.  some hold on so long.  My BIL, his grandmother, they keep thinking any time, and then she rebounds, then downhill, up down, up down.  It's so hard on the family. (hugs)

    Marilyn, you have a PM.

Good Morning from sunny Alberta! 15*C. here, with a high forecasted of 21. I can handle that. It'll be an outdoors day for this gal. I'll be mostly on my hands and knees in the flower beds. DH has already watered the hanging baskets and tomatoes before he left for work.

So, Aleida, I will join you by having a breakfast smoothie and go onto the deck to enjoy it and the birds.

I hope your clients will have their ACs turned on for you today, YF. Cleaning in the heat is difficult. Drink lots of water.

DH says 200 people are being laid off as 2 House of Tools locations are closing in Edmonton.

Gas went up 7 cents in our area. Of course...the long weekend and holiday season is coming. Prices always go up when that happens.

Dolores, keep us posted on your mother, okay? Often when the elderly have a bladder infection they are totally thrown off...like TOTALLY. Once that clears up they become more like their old selves again. I hope they find a placement  for your mom soon. In the meantime we are sending you many encouraging vibes))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))).

Saw the podiatrist again yesterday. He was pleased that I'm not dealing anymore with the "crystals" in my toes, and has given me a cream to apply for the burning. I will continue to change my footwear as needed during my shifts and take the arthrotec he precribed the last time. I hope that in time this inflammation will take a hike.

Off to find some breakfast.   BBL

Aint that the truth!!  Like us Canadians are too stupid to notice.  Happens every year!  doesn't matter if the price of oil drops record low, nope, gas over the long weekend jumps so sky high.  And yet, the Canadian Government advertises all over the US to come and visit Canada.  Well, perhaps if the big oil companies wern't so darn greedy, and perhaps if we KEPT some of our own oil, and refined it ourselves, PERHAPS tourists could afford to come to Canada, but NOOOO!  We let big oil dictate our every move, as we ship it all south, get it refined in the south, then buy it back from them for triple the price????  Does anyone see a mistake??

So sad about the House of Tools shutting down!  DH LOVES them!!  I think he would love to one day work there!  So sad.

Here is what Kaeli wrote, she made Dan a father's day card.

    Does good work with wood

    Awesome with crafts

    Drives crazy

Dad, Have a great day and don't stop working with wood, Your great at making crafts with wood.

And DD#2 made one that said "I love it when you tuck me in bed"

    Ahhh, kids, eh?

Thanks Char, I still have plenty of time.

I just came in from mowing and I am wet, wet, wet. I'll have to move when the air kicks on because it blows right down on me. Brrr with wet clothes. I can't get them off as wet as they are.

Did you see where I asked why my bread falls when I put it in the oven? It tastes good and all it just falls. We eat it but I would like it to look pretty. We bought some from an Amish or Mennonite store and it was so light & fluffy.

Dolores, I'm sorry about your Mom. My Dad had a stroke and lived for 9 years. Of course he was just 62 when he had his. I hope she gets to go to a nursing home instead of being sent home on her own. My Mom wouldn't even consider moving in with us. She was right next door so we let her stay there.

Well, I'm cold now so I'll finish reading later. LOL

Marilyn I am right with you

I just came in a half hour ago -- did one half of a small garden -- that took 2 hours????  either I am too slow or too much of a perfectionist -- well too late in life to change -- and quickly into the tub to clean off and cool off -- house is cool so I am very comfortable right now.  Marilyn the heat you have is that without the humidity or not???

And then I kneaded my bread and it is in loaf pans right now.  And I am not good with bread -- never do it -- but am determined to get this recipe down pat -- and then Marilyn you go ahead and mention "bread falling" -- OMG woman I sure hope you didn't jinx my bread.

I am having some salad for lunch and then I think I will do a puzzle.  Or read for a bit.  Plan is to do the other half of that small piece of garden at about 5 or so.  Need to stay out of the hotter sun.

Hi all...have a few minutes before I carry on here.

Just took a carrot cake out of the oven. Will make the icing for it in a bit.

I called the building inspector this morning. The neighbour behind us, who brought in all that dirt last fall, started to build a retaining wall this weekend. Well, he is using Allan blocks, which is great...BUT he is not staggering them...just stacking them on top of each other. Plus no footing..and he is going to add about  a 4 ft fence on top of that. There is sand sifting thru already to our side. The old fence is still up, but the idiots nailed some 2 x 4's to the bottom of it to keep the sand on their side. We do not plan on keeping that fence up there when they get their wall finished. Oh geez Louise...learn to build things properly before you start stuff like that. So anyhow, we are quite concerned that this will end up falling into our yard eventually! No way that wall will stay standing when they are not staggered or anything. The inspector is supposed to stop by this morning.

Got a few things to do today. I want to get a perogy lasagna into the freezer for this weekend. We are going up to Sheridan Lake to our friends place. We will park our trailer in their yard. I said I would bring up supper for Saturday night. Our neighbours are planning on coming up as well.

Other than that, just puttering along here. Will read the posts in a bit.

Aleida, back home and they did have the a/c on, right now it feels like 34C. Way too hot for me.

Pat, hope your Mom is all right.

Hi Meesh, Cameron is the man of the house right now. Good that he is great company.

Marilyn this is your kind of weather, the heat and the humdity, not mine at all, I prefer it cooler.

Dolores, sorry to hear that your Mom is failing, but it would be a blessing when she goes and no more worries for you.

Char, that breakfast sounds so yummy, let us know how they enjoyed it.

Yes I was fortunate not to have it hot in the spring, as soon as the summer started BAM we got the heat.

Here you definately need a/c it's unheard of no having it.

JP, what a shame for more people to lose their jobs, it's almost an epidemic people losing their jobs left and right.

Char, ditto when it comes to the price of gas.

Very cute what the girls wrote to their Dad.

Emc, some people have no clue as to what they are doing.Hopefully the inspector will them.

It feels great in our house so nice and cool.

Aleida, the heat index is 107, that is the way it feels with the high humidty.  I was going back out to finish mowing until I saw the temp. Think I'll take my book to the swing. I just finished 11 pts of bread & butter pickles. Haven't looked a t the cucumbers or squash yet today. I bet I have more out there. LOL

Sorry about jinxing you, but I just want some help. LOL
