    Re: Canadian Corner 06/23/09

Well, we had a very lovely brunch!  The one gal who said she wasn't able to make it, did come.  And the one gal who was coming, couldn't find the place!!  Which is so funny, considering it's within walking distance of her house!  Too bad she didn't try calling, but she left a message saying her morning was a gong show!  She has four young girls, one is a newborn, so I suppose life just happens.  I will post the french toast recipe next, though it's possible it may be in our favorites already.

Now the rain is coming, I was sitting out on the deck reading, it's warm, but I got the book done, came inside, and now it's raining.

EMC, goodness, even my kids know you can't just stack the bricks!  This guy obviously never played with LEGO in his childhood!  Normally I'm opposed to calling a building inspector on a neighbour, but in this case, yes, it's the best thing, as this guy is doing a lot of work for nothing!  Hopefully the building inspector will be able to show him how it's properly done, and not just shut him down with no advice.  All depends on the BI, some are so hopefull, some are just out there to make life miserable!

I think me and the girls are going to go straighten up their bedroom.  Need a big garbage bag I'm afraid!

    Strawberry Cream Cheese French Toast

    Ingredients:

    French Toast -

12 slices of home style white bread cut into 1" cubes
1 1/2 cups of fresh strawberries
    8-10  large eggs
    1-1 1/2 cups half-and-half
1/3 cup of Canadian Maple Syrup
8 oz cream cheese (cold) cut into 1" cubes

In a well greased 13"x 9" baking dish, arrange one half of the bread cubes.
Arrange all of the cream cheese cubes over the bread cubes and sprinkle the strawberries over the cream cheese and the bread cubes.
Arrange the remaining bread cubes over the strawberries.

Into your blender pour the half-and-half first, then the eggs, followed by the maple syrup.
Blend between each item. Pour evenly over the mixture.
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.

Remove the dish from refrigerator 45 minutes prior to baking. Preheat oven.
Bake covered with foil for 30 minutes; remove cover and bake an additional 30 minutes or till French toast is puffed and golden.

    To prepare Strawberry Sauce:

    Sauce ingredients:
    1 cup strawberries
    1 cup water
    2 T. cornstarch
    1 T. butter
    1 cup sugar

Use a small saucepan, stir together the sugar, cornstarch, and water.
Cook over moderately high heat, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes or until mixture has thickened. Stir in the strawberries and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 10 minutes or until berries have softened. Add the butter and stir the sauce until butter has melted. Serve hot over the Strawberry Cream Cheese French Toast. Serves 6-8

**NOTE**  Adjust liquids according to personal taste.  My DH prefers his dry, I prefer mine moist.  Needless to say, I dont' make this for him! LOL.

Oh, Char...you could open a bed and breakfast with recipes like that! Oh my! I'm drooling just thinking about it. ! imagine, though, you could probably do that with raspberries, too, right? Or a mixture of fruit in season.

I just got in from weeding on my hands and knees. Time for a long soak in the tub. The garden is so dry. We need rain. If I water, my well runs dry in 10 minutes.

Well, the clouds blew away, leaving a lovely blue clear sky.  Its been quite windy but the temperatures are much more liveable.  I mowed and mowed, got all the grassed areas finished on the same day!!

The yellow lady slippers are blooming all along the ditches.  I saw the first wild roses blooming today too.  They have such a lovely fragrance.

THe reroofing guy called because it has been so windy.  All the shingles were staying put.  Does that mean that job is finished for a few years now?

Have a terrific Tuesday evening ladies.

JP, Blueberries is also a very excellent addition to this!

Pat, well, i hope this means your roof is good to go!  Our roof withstood the last windstorm, and that is excellent news for us!

Marilyn -- took me a minute hehe

I went out and finished that garden -- it was so green and now I can see earth again -- all the green I took out -- not flowers!!

DH must have gone to wack that golf ball for a bit after work as he is not home yet

I feel listless -- I think -- better look that word up and make sure I'm not making a fool of myself.  Maybe I should do another puzzle -- that always occupies my entire mind -- what's left of it -- man -- yup listless -- better get off this computer
