    Canadian Corner 06/28/09

    Good Morning Friends,

Enjoyed my Sat. doing stuff around here and going to town.

No humidity makes it comfortable to be outside.

Not sure yet what we are doing today, it rained earlier around 4:00 and it should continue throughout the day.

I hope our campers are enjoying their time away from home.

Aleida, what are you doing today?  Is DH working? Is Luke behaving?  LOL

Dolores, I don't know where you get your energy, such a busy lady in/out of the home.

    How was the graduation?

Vi, are you getting your own puter anytime soon?  If you were to move to another city wouldn't be cheaper living?  Toronto is so expensive...

If you were to live in London or Kingston they are nice cities, and more affordable. It was just a thought on my part.

Meme, what are you doing during the day?

Pat how is life going on the farm?

    Have a nice Sunday,

    YF

Good Morning YF & All to follow

It's raining at the moment here & looks like more rain coming.

Didn't do much yesterday except clean & groceries. It was a very quiet day. In the evening our neighbours have one of those fire pit things in their back yard & they had a fire last night our house filled with smoke as we had our windows open. My eyes were bothering me all evening. Do any of you have these & do you let your neighbour know if you will be lighting a fire.

Happy belated B-day to your daughter hope she had fun

Don't have anything on the go today if it doesn't rain will go to early mass other then that just a lazy day.

    Have a good day All

    Anica

    Re: Canadian Corner 06/28/09

Good Sunday morning, ladies. The weather? My daddy used to say that there are only two temperatures here in the summer--hot and hotter. LOL The weatherman says that we have a "cold front" coming through after this afternoon's thunderstorm--our temp tomorrow will only be 32!

DSIL has tickets to the Braves game this afternoon. Woohoo! Great seats right behind the visitors' dugout, free parking, and access to the 755 Club. We're there! Yay. It'll be hot, but who cares? I can hardly wait and just wish that Joe was here to go along.

We sold about 85% of the stuff we had out at the garage sale yesterday, and after it was over we packed up DD's SUV and hauled the rest to the thift store. It was a long, hot day but worth it. Even the kids made money! As soon as we're rested up enough, we're going to get the stuff we're storing in the garage organized, and forevermore when we have "stuff" that's no longer used, that the kids have outgrown or whatever, it's getting donated so that it won't just clutter the garage and gather dust.

Char's camping again? Summertime, I guessSmile Can't keep her chained to the house when there's camping to be done! I wonder if she's ever tried winter camping, which is a big thing in the UP. Believe me, it's not for sissies, but it sure is fun.

Omigosh! It's 8:30, and I'm not even showed and dressed. Guess I gotta get cracking so that I'll be ready to climb aboard the instant DSIL is ready to roll. Hope the thunderstorms hold off until after the game.

Good Morning from Alberta. Partly cloudy here and 16. Love it!

Gramma, is that temp in C. or in F.?  32 C and higher would do me in very quickly, whereas 32 F. would be quite fine. I can handle that.

Anica, we have a firepit, too, but we're far enough away from the neighbours. There's a pasture between. if we were in the city, yes, we'd need to be considerate of our neighbours.

YF, Thanks for starting us each morning. I'm sure you are enjoying the lack of humidity. I doubt I could live in your area, even with AC. If I needed to I'd be staying indoors all summer.

Still in jammies. Need to shower and dress. Have a great day!   JP

    Re: Canadian Corner 06/28/09

Not much happening here these last few days.  Realizing that it's not just me.  I still get up at the usual time but I love the chance to go outside and have my coffee there and look around.  And when I do come in, I have things to do and somehow the computer has taken a back seat.  it's my first summer here, is this normal.  I expect when it is cold again -- lets's put that at November and no earlier, that then I -- and others too -- will be more regular at visiting.

First I will visit with yesterday's posts

Happy belated birthday to your DD Maria.  Awfully close to DS.  Did you celebrate two birthdays on one day when they were at home?  DS also has two boys with birthdays on consecutive days.  One big party and friends of each invited.

Maria, I wouldn't say my flower beds are huge, but Isuppose they are -- truth is I am still expanding on them.  Every year I clear another little piece.  I live on a dead end road -- 32 homes and I want to be known as the house with the flowers.  I think I am somewhat there.  But three doors down, a neighbour also has a beautiful garden.  She knows so much more than I do.  I learn from her.  She belonged to the garden club of Washago.  I joined last year but after some weeks I realized that it is a club for people who know how to garden rather than a club with all talents and where a newbie like I could learn from those-with-the know.  Probably I could compare it to a bridge club.  I wouldn't be joining if I couldn't play bridge.  Unfortunate that the garden club is that way and I dropped out.  No one even asked me why -- so I guess I rest my case.

Hi noudder.  You had the showers on Friday for your garden.  Good to hear.  We should all get rain at least weekly.  Do pace yourself again today.  Why is this coming week going to be a "crazy" one?

Hi Dolores.  We're getting rain now -- have you yet? Glad the graduation for the twins was successful and fun.  Grade nine can be very scary but only for a day or two.  Does your high school have a day the week before where only the grade nines go and get their timetables, visit their classrooms, if possible some teachers are there and then administration gives them a BBQ lunch?  It helps them get oriented and familiar with the school.

Three budgies, what a nice addition.  I'm not a bird lover -- well the indoor kind -- myself, but happy that you are enjoying them.  Our church is also doing a cold plate luncheon and we meet -- the ladies -- on Tuesday to prepare.  Our lunch sells for $6.50 and will include 3 types of salads -- least did last year -- potato salad, cole slaw and carrot salad, two slices of ham, bun, maybe a slice of tomato --- can't remember, beverage and dessert.  We have a sit down lunch in the hall or on the deck overlooking a river.  Or are your foods sold separately??

Hi Viola, hope your basil plants meet the challenge.  So sad that you had a young friend pass away.  Very sad for the family.

Hi Meme.  Glad you stopped by.  You must busy like everyone else.

I had a great time garage sale-ing yesterday.  Got more than usual of free stuff.  But the best buy was a "magic Bullet" still in the box that DD is biting at the bit to get at -- she is so excited.  Went to church yesterday and just never had much get-up-and-go to get to the computer.

This morning I got up and watered for two hours and as I was going on the clouds started rolling in -- but they've done that before.  But this time we did get rain, a nice gently rain fall for a few hours -- I went and had a nap.  So those flowers must be ecstatic.

Good day again Maria.  Not doing too much today.  I should get my snail mail done  so I don't have to rush it tomorrow morning.  And I must decide what I am making for the bake table at the church on Wednesday.  So besides a nap, I am going through cookbooks -- but of course, I stray from only looking at baked goods.

Hi Anica.  Rain throughout Ontario.  Hope the campers elsewhere have it dry.  And I hope it quits overnight because the plans are to go strawberry picking tomorrow for the church group -- and there are only a very few of us going.  Oh well.  I am still able so I'll be out there -- better bring my old cushion so I can sit.

Anica, we do not have a fire pit and the neighbour beside me -- well it is their cottage and they are almost NEVER there -- so no smoke for me here -- thank goodness.  If so, maybe I'd have to go over and enjoy the meal with them.  hehe  Or is it just for heat??  What we do have is someone or someones on the road who like to do fireworks -- and the holiday is coming up -- and Luke hates that.

Hi Grammapeach.  Glad your garage sale was a smashing success.  I'll bet you have stories to tell.  Are you good at bargaining -- from the seller's side??

Noudder -- are you sure you'd like 32ºF??  You'd be like freezing haha -- continuous winter.  I agree that 32ºC is way too hot, but I do like to sit outside.  It is 16ºC here but it is wet out so I am stuck inside. BTW are you STILL in your jammies??

So back to the cookbooks 'cos I have not made final decisions.

    Aleida

PS -- You'd better all read this novel or >>>>>

    Back again. LOL

The trees are swaying in the wind. It's a pleasant 19*. Aleida, if I had to choose between 32*F and 32*C, I'd go for the 32*F. Yes, it is a bit cold, but one can dress for colld. I guess there's pros and cons to both.

This week will be crazy because I'm working more than usual, and I have to make sure my DH gets everything together to leave for his vacation. That's MY job. I won't be going with him this time. He's never in all our 30+ years together had a holiday without me, so he may well enjoy this one. I have taken several trips to see my family alone when we were farming, but this is a first for him. I wish him well.

While he's gone, I hope to get some decluttering done here at home and work on some projects...nothing that involves ladders , though, as I don't need to fall. No one would find me until he gets back.

Wishing you all a wonderful afternoon.

    Um...that 32? C. 32C! And, yeah, it's hot!

Am I good at bargaining from the seller's standpoint? I must be because I made $985.80! As soon as I spot somebody looking a lot at a particular thing, I just go on over and quote the price (even though everything is marked). People almost always then ask if I'll take less. Heck, yeah! It's a garage sale, and everything is negotiable. They'll usually offer half of what's asked, and we end up meeting in the middle. Sometimes, folks will find just what they were looking for or something that they really want and don't dicker at all, just pay up. And what the heck, some money is better than none, so if it looks like a customer is going to pass up something, I'll all but chase them down to get them to buy. It usually worksSmile

The ball game was grrrrreat! Atlanta won, so that made it even greater, but boy-oh-boy was it ever hot!

    Re: Canadian Corner 06/28/09

We are back home from visiting DS and family in Windsor.

Watered the plants and fed the birds now I will relax.

Anica, we have people here all the time making a fire in their back yard. What makes me angry is when I have my clothes hanging out.  People don't seem to consider the neighbours anymore.

Hi Gramma, good you made out ok with the sale, and taking it to the thrift store is one way to get rid of it.

Lucky girl going to a baseball game, it would be nice indeed if Joe was there as well.

JP, I am one who cannot tolerate the heat and humidity, yuck. That is what I hate about the summers being stuck indoors after being indoors all winter.

Aleida, I understand people don't come as much to their computers too much to do .  My DS and DD are a year and a day apart. This year we did not get together as we do other years.

Here are the birthdays for Jun in our family.

    DGS   June 7

    DGD June 22

    DIL June 24

    DS june 26

    DD June 27

    DIL June 30

We also have Father's Day and when we Dad was alive his BD was June 2nd.

We are losing our associate priest, this weekend, and we are getting a young associate priest from Africa. To me it doesn't matter where they come from, as long as they do a good job.

We have three churches in our parish cluster and two priests.

    Have a nice evening.

    Re: Canadian Corner 06/28/09

    Good evening everyone,

Popping in to say hi.  I figured I better pop in now, before you all think that I have ended up at the hospital!  Yesterday I went to Moncton with a friend (an hour and a half drive away) shopping.  We only have one baby/maternity specialtystore in Fredericton, and it is an expensive one.  Where as Moncton has 2 that I know of, maternity store.  I have been having trouble finding nursing stuff, so a trip to Moncton was in order.  Of course we went to Costco too.  It was a fun girl's day out.

While I was gone, dh moved the computer desk out of the nursery, and I had to wait til this evening to finally get the computer hooked back up.  Of course, it is still acting up.  I think that after I have Shawn, I will have the computer sent out to get "cleaned up".  I'm hoping the IT guy from work will have a look at it.  I trust him and know that he will be honest with me.  Plus he doesn't charge an arm and a leg to have a look at it.  He told me to bring it to him before, but I haven't yet.

Well, off to see what's on the tv this evening.  Then, maybe an early night tonight.

    Cathy

I do keep myself busy but more than anything I am lonely. There is not a lot of an old single christian gal to do in this town- I do see the g'girl a lot which helps make me busy- LOL

today I did do some more clearing out chores- trying to get rid of too much stuff-

I still have my little dog who is a pal but also has cushings and at his age -13- we are not doing anything but keeping him happy and comfortable- alas. he does tie me down a lot as Meme cannot just get up and go and stay on overnights-  I will make more of a decision re his health in the fall as I am not sure he can stand another Alberta winter-

must go and feed him his pill and do something to move my body- I get stiff sitting around - old age is annoying-- Wink
