    Flyladies Report ~ 6/29 ~ 7/5/09

    Good morning everyone.

    Zone 5, Living Room (M & T)

Zone 1, Front Porch, Entrance, and Dining Room (W, TH, F)

Kelly's Mission:  Living Room Zone:  Go to your living room and stand there looking around at the flat surfaces (end tables, coffee table, etc.)  Are they cluttered up with to many things?  Are they the same decorative things you have always had?  Do you love them?  How many ducks, bunnies, candles, cows, etc. do you need?  Do they still bring you joy and do you still love seeing them in your living room?  or are you just used to them?

What about the piles of magazines and papers?  Do you NEED those?

How much easier would it be to dust these areas without all that stuff?

Get rid of the stuff that is cluttering up your living room.  Take 5 mins. to let go of some things.  I am willing to bet that more of you will find you do want to get rid of some things because they do not bring you joy and you are just used to them being there.

Hope everyone had a great weekend.  We had a few showers Sat. and Sun. was just hot and humid.  Sat. we went to a graduation pool party for one of the grand nieces.  We didn't stay to long.  To far away from a bathroom and DH had trouble walking down the hill to get to the pool area and walking back up when we were leaving.  Sun. we went to the shop then BIL & SIL stopped in, then other SIL came over to stay with DH till I got back from the airport with DD.  She had a great time in Denmark and is already talking about the next time she goes there.  We got back to the shop and they were all there, visiting.  We live within a mile of each other.

We have a card for Costco through my SIL, the nurse, business card at the $40.00/ yr.   I don't know that we use it enough to be worth it.  Most of the staples can be purchased at the grocery store, on sale, cheaper than Costco sells it.  It's great if you are planning a big picnic/party etc. because you will need the Mega size sleeve of paper plates, the Jumbo box of plastic cutlery and the Choak a Horse size bags, boxes and cans of food items.  Also good when you are going to bake lots of cookies because you can use most of it right away and the rest will be there when you need it.  Fresh produce we have to split with SIL, and she does the same.

Today we are catching up on laundry.  DD has quite a few special handling items to wash.  Hope she doesn't expect me to do them.  Stick out tongue

    Have a great day.

    Dori

Howdy Dori!  I'm so glad your DD had a great time in Denmark, what a wonderful experience for her!

We have a card to Sam's club, I like to buy the frozen boneless skinless chicken breasts there.  Tyson makes them, they are ALWAYS tender and I can cook as many or as few as I need.

Oops looks like we had two starts on our thread today.  I'm going to go with Dori's since she is our usual starter (no offense Alphy!)

Guess what!!!!!!!!!!  My refrigerator is fixed.  The repairman arrived shortly after I got home from work at 5:00, and didn't leave here till almost 7:00.  I was so glad I could be here.  I ask him to please allow me a few minutes when he was done to clean the wall behind the fridge and clean up the floor under it.  That made my day!  (Sad, isn't it?)

I got my ironing done, it seemed like I had quite a bit to do.

Found a really neat site today.  It's called Caloriecount.about.com.  You can look up the calories on any food, processed, packaged, fast food, chain restaurants, etc.  You can sign up to track your diet and keep a food log.  So I logged my food for the day.  You can also log your exercise.  Actually over the weekend I made up my mind to lose the 10 pounds I need to lose, and though this is a little tedious, I thought it might help make me accountable.  If anybody is interested, check it out!

    Talk to you all tomorrow.

    Good morning everyone.

Kelly's Mission:  Do a detailed vacuuming session.  This means to vac. the room making sure to get up against the baseboards and under the furniture.  Be careful that you don't hurt yourself trying to move furniture.  Just try to get as close to the base of the furniture as you can.  Don't forget the corners.

Alphy - Hope you don't mind that I moved Linda's post over here.  We were typing at the same time.

Cookie - Glad to hear the refrig. is fixed at last!!!  (bet you are even more glad.  Wink )  You are right about writing down what you eat and your amount of daily exercise.  It does help keep you accountable.  Even if you are just writing it on a pad for your own use.

Linda - What a nice surprise.  Makes me feel good just to read the joy in your post.

Laundry is in and ready to switch over.  Better get to it.  Lots of to do's today.

    Have a wonderful day....................Dori

    Hi everyone,

Am still on a happy high. It's dgs's 3rd birthday to day and dd went nuts as usual. Dh and I finally decided to get a gift card for Target It's not much, I wanted to get a wagon and dd nixed that and he loves to pull the little wagon he has, but it's so small. I knew I should've gotten the wagon. Maybe for Xmas.

I felt pretty good yesterday and am still working on the fruit cellar. Got 1 shelf done, and started the middle shelf and threw out soooo many mayo jars that I dropped a couple and had to bring the broom down and sweep that up. Also did the cat hair on the steps also. Am throwing out canning that is from the 80's and 90's. Have alot of them to do, but got a big dent in doing that.

I'm a little tired already, I think I went up and down the stairs about a dozen times. I guess that was my excersise for the day. I read that if u can't excersise that going up and down the stairs a few times. Well I did do that today. lol

cookie, glad u got the fridge going. I've called about 6 people that put in fences and do driveways and will try and get that done this year. If I don't like them, there r alot of other people I can call. Smile I think I have about 3 yellow pages.

Haven't had time to write #2 today, been busy busy. So will maybe will start on and if I don't finish I can tom. Hope everyone has a great evening. Big Smile

    Hello,

Good for you, Linda.  I'll bet that's so reassuring to be able to hear his voice.  Happy Birthday to your grandson.  I can't believe he's three already.  Guess I was around when he turned 2!

We've got our yard laborer on the job today, DH is supervising.  We got a deal at HyVee on 40 bags of red cedar mulch.  He has his work cut out for him.

I need to get to the grocery store now and load up on perishable groceries.  You wouldn't believe the list I have.  I'm sure it's over the $200 I'm allowed.  What makes me sick is that I shopped carefully for all that stuff.  I can't go out and pay full price just to replace everything.  I don't know if I have a time frame to get this done, but I think I'm going to do it in a few shopping sessions instead of trying to do it all at once.

I think we're doing take out pasta for dinner tonight.  CB doesn't feel up to going out to the Mexican place tonight.  I was really kind of looking forward to that.  I will have to guestimate on the calorie count I guess.  I'm sure the local restaurants aren't on that website.  That's one drawback, we don't often eat at chain restaurants.

    Good morning everyone.

Zone 1, Front Porch, Entrance area and Dining Room.

Kelly's Mission:  Sweep your front porch around the front door.  Shake out your welcome mat and wipe down your front door.  This is the first thing that people see when they come to your home.  Set your timers for 15 mins.

Happy July 1st!   Doesn't seem possible that this could really be July.  We have had so much rain and cool weather so far this spring/summer.  Guess I'll just have to believe the calendar.  Wink

Happy Birthday to Linda's DGS!  Where has the time gone?

Cookie - I may have missed something.  Who is allowing you $200?  Is that the appliance guarantee/insurance?  Maybe you can check the flyers and hit a few different stores.  Usually every one of them has something on sale that we go through fast.

Alphy - Hope everything is OK.  Missing you.

I have errands today and need to get to them this am.  We are to get heavy rain with thunder & lightening this afternoon.

    Have a wonderful day.

    Good morning everyone,

Had a small party for dgs and it went fine. Dd got him soooo much stuff, I remember got only 1 to 4 things and even things for them to wear. So when I saw all the stuff, and there were only 1 other couple w their son, I think it well tho. Didn't wind down till midnight and still got up at 8 this morning.

One of the contractors that came to give a bid on the fence came today. Thought it was a little high, but he was nice and seen their signs around the neighborhood. So one down and 5 more to go. Will have to recall 1 because I think I forgot to leave my number, so will have to call back.

Will do mission today. I always like to have the door that people come in look decent. Worked on the fruit cellar and got rid of some more jars and got stuff off the bottom shelf so I can clean and restock the shelves. Have 3 more shelves, smaller, but wider and will have to work on them next week. Soooo many mayo quarts. Been finding pints and other jars I thought I couldn't do wo. Now I can laugh at myself. Less is better. I hope dd finds out sometime soon, lol.

cookie, I hope the fridge is working for u, now.

alphy, yeah, where r u, hope everything is fine with u.

Dori, am trying to get laundry done before the 4th weekend so all I have to do is grill and relax all weekend. I keep on forgetting to turn on the dryer and little things like that. I think I'm trying to do more than 1 thing at a time and have those senior moments. Maybe after this weekend it'll be better. Or at least I can hope. lolWink

Got more things to do today, have more estimants on the drive and fencing today, so everyone have a great day. Big Smile

    Re: Flyladies Report ~ 6/29 ~ 7/5/09

My computer is wanting to act up today, hope it will hold on for this.

Yesterday we went to DesMoines to pick up our neighbor...he went to California for a grandson's wedding, and I went to see his wife every day in the care center...she has Alzheimer's...I don't think she even missed him, she didn't seem to be distressed...and what a sharp lady she was in her day!  I would rather my cancer came back than to ever get Alzheimer's.

While there, we went to Costco, and I find, even for the two of us, that we buy a lot there and at Sam's...for us it pays.  The meat is excellent and a good price, milk is a lot less than any place else we can get it, if you need anything in the pharmacy area, not necessarily prescriptions, just over the counter items, they are less.  I buy a lot of clothing at both places, they have good brands.  For us, it pays.  I buy my laundry soap there....DH buys gas.  However, a friend in the Minneapolis area says Target is less expensive...she said this week they had baby back ribs for $1.29.  I looked in the Target ad for the twin cities area, and surely didn't see that, but that is a tremendously good price if true.

I haven't followed the missions for this week, but my living room isn't the  messiest place in my home.  I will shake out the front rug, however, now that I have read that.

I have already been to the care center for today, so better get at something!  This is our one night to go out.  Last night, when we got home, DH grilled pork chops...a recipe I may have gotten on Reiman's...although I very seldom check out anything anymore except for this and low carb....it was a marinade...I won't save the recipe.  They were bone in chops.

We have a great grandson in the KC area, he is a down's baby....we were invited to his first birthday party, Linda...he got 40 little outfits if he got one.  I no longer give him clothing...last year, just gave him some money and may do that this year, too.  One grandma had 9 outfits in a package.  There is NO way a child could use all of that clothing, unless one never does laundry!

alphy, I know, for dgs shower he got so much, not 9 outfits, but a quilt from a grandma and told dd to hang on to that one. When he gets older I think he'd appreciate that more than 9 outfits. I know that I kept 1 little outfit for each one of the kids and that's it. a sil gave me boxes and boxes of clothes, used, but still usable that she collected from her sisters and sil's and kept them at her dad's farm. I think I used about a 1/3 of all that stuff and even put some of the things that my kids had. So I wouldn't have to bother with. Now her df and she r gone and wonder what happened to all the stuff. Huh?

    Hello,

I had an extended warranty with American from when we bought all our new appliances back in 2005, Dori.  It expires in August, so we were lucky to have the compressor go out before then.  Yes, we have $200 insurance for food loss connected with that extended warranty.

As it turned out we did go to the Mexican place w/o CB last night, just took him a tostada.  I decided a bean tostada was probably the least caloric item on their menu so that's what I had.  We did the take out pasta tonight.  That was rough on the diet!

DD and I went to the grocery store tonight, I spent a little over $100.  Didn't buy too much in the meat department yet.  Good suggestion, Dori, I will keep my eyes open for the flyers this week.  Maybe I'll do some shopping at HyVee this weekend and catch their sales.  We also need to get to Sam's now, there are a few items I get there.  Sounds like you do well shopping at the Sam's and Costco, Alphy.  Some people think an older retired couple wouldn't be able to buy enough to make it worthwhile, not true, huh?  Do you sometimes split up large packages of meat?  We used to do that with the boneless pork chops and the chicken breasts, but even though I used good freezer bags it would sometimes get freezer burnt before I could use it all.  DH kicks up a fuss, but I refuse to do it anymore.

My assistant is on vacation tomorrow so I have to go in at 7:00AM.  We have Friday off for the holiday, hooray!  I will spend it with my DD.  We're planning to see the new Johnny Depp movie "Public Enemies".  She will be with her DF for the 4th on Saturday.

Off to bed.  Everyone have a great day tomorrow.

    Good morning everyone.

Kelly's Mission:  We are going to have a multi room mission today and it might take you longer than 15 mins.  Set your timer for each room and FLY through it!

For the Front Porch, Entrance and Dining Room, put out the fires that are burning in your hot spots.  The pile of shoes, junk mail, magazines and school papers that are piled or thrown in these 3 areas are to be dealt with.

Alphy - Hope your computer is working.  I know I'd miss it if mine quit on me.

Cookie - Since it had to quit in you, your refrigerator couldn't have gone at a better time!   If you do go and by the large packages of meat, make sure you try to fix cutlets/pork chops each week till they are gone.  Skip a week here and there but see how your family and you like having the cutlets or chops so frequently.  There are so many different ways to fix both I'm sure you could use them up in time.

Linda -  Kids grow so fast it would be a shame not to pass their clothes along.  It was nice of you to put some of your kids things in the box too.  Never know how many people it helped out.  Unfortunately you probably will never know what happened to the box.

Today DD and I are meeting friends for breakfast so I'm on the run as usual.

    Have a wonderful day.....................Dori

we must be busy little flyladies today, where is everyone?

I am doing a new recipe for a round roast tonight...I found on the internet...we will see!  I have a Dr appointment at 1:40, and if I am finished early enough, will go to the care center and take my friend to some fireworks they are having there at 3:00...now what kind of fireworks can that be in the middle of the afternoon?  we will see.

DH went golfing, he would have stayed home and gone with me to the Dr but I don't foresee anything that would require him there.

    Beautiful day here.

    Hi everyone,

Been lazy today. Haven't got much done, except playing w dgs and watching tube w him...

Have a 4 appt. for abid on the fence. Think I will get a couple more next week and see what I can come up w. We had a bid of around 5000 for a redo on our drive last night and it sounds a little better than the 10 grand that they were asking this last spring.

Well dd is in the shower and I would like to get in there before the 4 comes. It only takes me about 5 min. to shower and right now I'm watching the clock because I usually don't, but I know that my kids take at least 15-30 min. don't know what they do in there, but...When we redo the bathroom am going to get the toilet and shower that saves water and will shut off after 10 or so min. I think that should be long enough.

Better get dressed and forget the shower, so hope everyone have a great evening. Big Smile

    Linda
