    Canadian Corner 06/30/09

    Good Morning Friends,

Having a bit of problem with my internet, someone is coming back today. To troubleshoot...it could be a bad modem.

I tried to call my client to work today instead of tomorrow but they weren't home. Maybe she'll call later.

Aleida, I'll try the Bell internet and see what happens, if I don't like it I'll switch.

Gramma, good for you to set the children staright and make the rules right at the start.

Meesh, the last day for ACW, now the office staff can feel at ease, especially you being close to her working area.

JP, that is dry so dry to watered it that much, we either have too much or too little.

Dolores, your Mom sounds like she is very weak. She must be so tired and wanting it to be all over.

So sad for the kids when a couple split, the kids are always the onmes who get hrut.

Char, when when DS told me about hom and DW expecting I waited till he told my other DS and DD before we talked about it. It was not up to me to announce it...I wouldn't never take that privilege away from them. How rude.

Hope I can get back on today depends on my internet.

    Have a great day everyone.

    Re: Canadian Corner 06/30/09

    Good morning everyone

Meesh -- so nice last day for ACW -- do the victory dance all day -- you'll be smiling and then smiling some more -- they'll be wondering what you got into.

Grammapeach-- Grandchildren were testing the waters.  Good the rules are set.  Now all the reorganizing -- when will it be finished??

Hi Cathy.  Looks like you are getting as much rain as we are.  We did have fun picking berries yesterday -- they are absolutely yummy -- we went because rains forecast for most of this week -- and then the berries will be drowned and rotten.  I think it was a good decision because it really rained yesterday afternoon and promising more this afternoon and, and, and.  We were 5 women and we picked about 3 6-qt baskets each.  Some pick faster so they may have done a bit more.  Eight are for the church -- strawberry dessert at September's bazaar -- and the rest we picked for ourselves.  Then at home -- we had to clean them -- my hands look awful.  And then I made freezer jam out of mine also -- I am strawberried out.  I pick strawberries sitting on my butt and I scoot along.

Noudder -- wish I could send you some of our rain.  Get lots of decluttering done yesterday??

Hi Char.  Glad you enjoyed the camping -- always someone who will go swimming -- and nice to see all that wildlife.  We have a raccoon right now that you could have and several black squirrels that can't stay off the bird feeders -- they have got to go 'cos they get me so upset and Luke gets hyper.

Char, Canada's Day is Wednesday for most here.   We'll see at the attendance at the church luncheon -- of course the rain could deter people also.

Hi Dolores.  Sorry to hear about your mom.  I know how difficult it is.  Hugs going your way.

Gramma loved your story about herding the cattle through the campground.

Cathy -- are you sure you need all that bread -- send some my way -- I really do NEED it.  Lucky you!!

Maria -- I hope you get all your electronic problems fixed today without too much of a hassle.

Today it is off to the church.  We will be setting up the tables for tomorrow's luncheon, preparing the salads, rolling the ham slices, setting up a white elephant table, preserves, bake table and all the other little stuff that comes with having visitors on a larger scale.  We will be busy.  As soon as DH leaves for work, I will be preparing a small dessert for the ladies for our lunch today -- you know me, I love to bring a treat.   And it's supposed to rain today with thunderstorms in the afternoon -- hope I can be home for most of that as I will problably be a needed calmer-down for the pets.

25 years ago today the sun was shining and no threat of rain -- you know why I remember??   LOL

    Have a great day all

    Aleida

    Good morning,

Another grey and humid day today.  Trust me, if I could send this rain to those that need it, I would.  Mother Nature just doesn't want to co-operate.  I think it's Thursday that we might possibly see a bit of sun, but showers as well that day.  I'm going to stop looking at the 2 week outlook, because it is too depressing seeing all the rain that they are forecasting.

Today I have another doctor's appointment.  I told dh that he should have a change of clothes packed in the car, so if I call him at work that it's time, he will be able top clean up before meeting me at the hospital.  So, last night he packed his bag and has it ready in the car.  So far, there is no sigh that this little guy is ready to come yet.  He's still sitting high, up in my lungs (or so it feels).

Whoo Hoo Meesh, last day with ACW!!  Hope you have a good day.

Char, when we first found out we were expecting, my brother had it broadcasted on Facebook too, before we had a chance to tell some of our family and friends.  We and our mom and dad were quite upset with him.  His excuse was that he was so excited and was bursting to tell.

Well, off to have some breakfast and see if the washer has stopped yet.  I hate the fact that I have to use my dryer.  I have a perfectly good clothes line, but that darn ol Mother Nature........

YF, I have my fingers crossed about your house, and it's going to be hard to get anything done around here like this:)

Also have my fingers crossed so that there will be sun and rain only in the places where it's needed.

Y'all have a good day. I'll check in later.

    Thankyou Maria and Meesh

Maria when your house sells where will you move to??

Meesh -- hope we both enjoy the day -- but unfortunately not together -- haha

Maria, strawberries were $6.30 for a 6 quart basket -- seems good to me.  is it??

well dessert is made -- made it twice 'cos I don't think it doubles well -- amaretto cream -- I put each serving in a fancy dish and now I have to figure out how to transport the babies -- aw "don't sweat the small stuff"  On top I'll put toasted almonds and a sliced strawberry.  Yummo!!  I have made it before.

gotta go -- have an hour to get myself ready, clean up a few things and pack the car with white elephant stuff.  And there goes Luke -- in a frenzy -- must be another squirrel  -- small stuff Aleida -- remember small stuff-- okay

    hugs

    Goos Morning All

Looks like more rain for us, We had ahouse hit by lightning not too far from us It burned to the ground. I thought all the houses had grounders. Also a small plane crashed at the Waterloo Airport which again is only about 2 kilometres from here If we had been looking out our from window we would have seen it. The pilot was killed.

Aleida Happy Anniversary hope you have a romentic evening planned. enjoy your day at church. The dessert sounds yummy.

YF do you have a place picked out to move to once you sell your house?

Meesh don't have a too big smile on your face or your co-workers will wonder what is going on

Gramma if you got everything done right away what would you do with yourself, you have to leave somthing for another time, that is my excuse for slacking around here.

Cathy glad you are so orgenized, with my first we had just moved into our new house a week before I was due & I decided to clean the bottom corner kitchen cabinets, I managed to get myself stuck in there & there was no one around, I was so glad to see my mom come check on me.  So you take it easy.

OK I got to get a wiggle on as our Ada would say, I wonder how she is doing.

    Take care

    Anica

    Re: Canadian Corner 06/30/09

    Good morning all,

Happy Anniversary Aleida & Dave. What's special in the books for you guys tonight? A big meal out?

We have the oldest DGS with us for a few days. He doesn't want to go camping with the family. Of course he stays over at David's most of the time. (next door, for the new ones.) Munchkin is in the final game of playoffs in t-ball. He told us last night they would get a BIG trophy. Heather was the scorekeeper last night so of course I was the baby keeper. Love that job. He had plenty of smile & giggles for Gramma.

I've got to find some dill this morning. I have pickles to make and can't find any.

We are in our dry spell now so if you could blow some rain this way, I'd greatly appreciate it. The corn around here is curling its leaves, needing water.

I always wait until the kids tell things before I say anything about it.That's their pleasure to pop good news. Once it's out then it's fair game. LOL

I got Mic's diaper stacker done yesterday and hope to work on the crib bumper today. Her & Mike are going with the Sr.s of their church today to the Amish town a little piece from us. They both took the day off work to do it. There were 2 seats left on the church bus so they asked if they could go. They will hit the grocery stores & wherever they sell things & then eat at the Amish restaurant up there. If they like it, then we'll all go some Sat.

Maybe if we ever get some rainy days here, I'll be on more. We did get a cool spell yesterday, it just got to 90 and a breeze was blowing. We had our 4th of July weather last week. Very hot & humid, felt like 106.

Need to get things done here. I told Cody just whenever he woke up to come over & we'd leave. Not in a real big hurry.

Just heard that they've opened a new winery here in our county. I'd like to check that out. Surprised, because it's in a dry part of the county. We're in a dry part too but on the opposite side of the county.

Have a nice day. Oh no another plane crash. Missed the details but I think it was in an ocean & so far they have rescued a small child.

    Marilyn

    Re: Canadian Corner 06/30/09

Good morning!  And happy anniversary to Aleida????  Okay, that's a pure guess, as I havent read beyond the second post yet!

I didnt' sleep too great last night, DH woudn't stop moving!  So as soon as I fell asleep, he would have to completely change positions!  Arg!

YF, hope you don't have problems like I do.  Mine has been good for over a month, I'm getting nervous, should crash any time now.  Ever since we switched to high speed enhanced.

Cathy, wow, your organized!  To have a bag packed for DH, definetly thinking of a fast labour!  Do you live a distance from the hospital?  Ours was a five minute drive, so it wasn't a big deal, but DH worked 25 minutes away, and was always nervous about that distance, especially after the first one came zooming into the world, even the doctor was nervous about the distance!  Better safe then sorry!

YF, oh goodie, I was correct about the aniversary!!  Can't wait till you move to BC, that will be fun.  (that is your dream, right??) LOL.

Peach, your a stuborn woman, there is no way your gonna not finish your place before we send your family our condolences!

Meesh, not to be mean, but I sure hope ACW is at home for a L O N G time!

Anica, DH and I were talking about lightning and houses.  Used to be, houses had lightning rods installed.  our house doesn't have one.  But we have a plate that goes into the ground, so we were thinking that takes the place of the lightning rod??  I remember hearing that some religions felt that the lighting rod was bad, it meant you weren't trusting God, so they were not allowed to have them.  I think that is totally stupid!  But of course, these people also do not have any insurance on their homes, or on themselves.  Though I give credit to their church for taking care of their own people, but still......

Marilyn, I've visited amish community, what a neat experience.  I want to do it again one day, of course, there are different types of Amish.  Is this the very strict Amish?  Some Amish can have modern conviniences, some cannot.  But I think they all can have electricity to their business, but not in their homes, and a phone shack, or perhaps a cell, but not in their homes, just for business reason, same with computer.  Kinda funny, yet kinda neat.

EMC, how did the weekend go for you guys?   Hope your weather was a bit warmer then mine.  We still have that cold wind blowing.

Well, wonder if today is Tuesday coffee day?  Wonder if my SIL is still got her panties in a knot over my comment yesterday on Facebook?  Oh, she was fit to be tied!  Kinda funny actually!  Her maturity level really surfaced when she made some lovely comments yesterday!

     Good Day ALL!!!! Music

Do't we have the blustery weather! Are the strawberries over already? They were barely ripe a week ago! I was going to get more this weekend. DRAT! One quart of fresh local strawberries is just NOT enough for a season.

Has anyone heard of this hybrid of our strawberries? They're crossed with some other kind, so that they will fruit well into the summer. I wonder if they're anywhere near as tasty and sweet....

Okay, as usual, I'm on very limited time here, and much to do. I picked up another shift at the store this evening until closing so any shopping I mjight intend to do will need to be done this afternoon.

    Congrats on the anniversary, Aleida!

Happy Birthday to anyone that I missed along the way, and  I hope everyone has a happy and SAFE holiday, both sides of the border!

    Lots Maple Leaf regards!

Hi Vi!  my mom had Tri Star Everbearing.  They would bear right into late fall.  One time, I picked strawberries AFTER the snowfall melted!  It was so late in the year, yet they were still producing.  One night it snowed, and after the snow melted, went out and picked the last of them.  I am NOT joking.  In fact, they bear the best in the later season.  They start in June with a decent size picking.  Then throughout the summer, but just lightly, then again in late summer, mid August, they get their biggest batch, it is then that I pick and freeze and make into jam.  These are very large berries, and are very tasty!  Unfortunately, these plants got a diseas, and can not be found in the nurseries.  So if you have a friend who has them that did not get the diseas, this will be the only way you will get these strawberries.

I'm BACK!!!!     Internet issues are finally resolved without much help from the helpdesk.

    Happy anniversary Aleida and Dave.

I'm on the run as usual but withdrawal was hard.  Will catch up on the past week after supper tonight.

    Re: Canadian Corner 06/30/09

Ut oh...missed wishing a happy anniversary to Aleida. Hope you have a wonderful evening together.

Char, if you didn't read my post yesterday about the cattle drive, do. It's always good to know what could happen while camping. LOL

Pat! You're back. That's a relief. I thought maybe you were stranded out in the potato field.

Have you heard the story about the guy who lost his job as a stock boy in a grocery store because he wasn't bright enough to get it done? He decided to become a chicken farmer and ordered 150 Rhode Island Red chicks. They were guaranteed to be healthy so he figured he couldn't lose. Within a few days after they arrived, he called the feed and seed store to complain that every last one of them died.

Since they were guaranteed, the store manager shipped him another 150 chicks, and within just a few days, the same thing happened, and they all died! Of course, the man called the feed and seed store again in a panic because all 150 chicks died.

Once again, the manager shipped him another 150 chicks, and once again, they promptly died.

The manager asked the would-be chicken farmer exactly what he did from the time the chicks arrived. The guy said "I really don't know. Maybe I planted them too deep."

Char, pass that along to Cookie; she'll get a big kick out of it!

I got a lot accomplished this morning. I think. And yesterday I frittered away a little of the proceeds of the garage sale and bought myself a teeny-tiny 18" TV for the bedroom. It's so cute that I can hardly wait until evening so I can sit on my chaise in the bedroom and watch it. Maybe it's true that it's the little things that please us?

Eija, I love your cute glittery things every day. I even love the ones that don't glitterSmile

Maria, hope your house showing went well. Once the place is sold, you can move either to Kentucky where you'll be able to raid Marilyn's garden whenever you like, or you can move to Georgia where I promise I'll let you clean house for me whenever the mood strikes you. Andre should come, too, of course.

Did I miss anybody? Didn't mean to. Oh! Goodness. Vi! I'll be glad when you win the lottery and can post from your own computer all day every day.

Just think Cathy! This time next month, we'll all be new mommies again. Loved Anica's story about being stuck in the cupboard. With my first, I was so huge that it was almost a problem to get through a door, so I wouldn't have dared try squeezing into a kitchen cupboard.

Meesh, don't get so excited over ACW being gone that you do an over-zealous happy dance in the parking lot and break a leg. Moderation. That's the key.
