I know it's not bread baking season right now but...

the weather here is still cool and I've been wanting to try some homemade bread recipes.  I just tasted the Italian herb focaccia right out of the oven.......yummy.  I have a jalapeno cheese one in the oven now.  Here's the site I found the recipes from.  I didn't use all the cheese on the focaccia and it's still heaven.

Oh my, just tried the jalapeno cheese one.  I added a bit of chopped onion.  It is so moist and good, I think from the milk.   I halved the recipe and made one loaf which is huge.

I don't like the heat, but I just got a recipe ( about 6 weeks ago) for Asiago Cheese Bread that is to die for! i've made it about 8 times since I got the recipe fLOL just can't get enough of it, especially sliced thin and toasted, here's the recipe if you'd like to give it a whirl. I use the dough hook on my KA to mix/knead it with so it takes all the work out.

    ASIAGO CHEESE BREAD
makes 1 loaf bake at 425 for 35 minutes

    3 1/2 to 3 3/4 cups bread flour
    1 envelope dry yeast
    1 1/2 teaspoons salt
    1/4 teaspoon black pepper
    1 1/4 cups milk
    2 Tablespoons unsalted butter
    1 1/4 shredded Asiago cheese ( 5 ounces)
    1 egg

In a large bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups of the bread flour, the yeast, salt and pepper.
In saucepan, heat milk and butter over low heat until temp is 120 to 130 degrees
stir milk mixture into flour mixture until smooth
stur in 1 cup of the asiago cheese
gradually stir in about 2 cups of the flour to make a soft dough and knead until smooth and elastic, about 10 minutes.
oil large bowl; add dough and turn to coat. Cover and let rist about 1 hour or until doubled.
Coat an 8 X 2 " cake pan, round. with cooking spray. punch down dough, form into a 6" round; place in pah and let rise until doubled.
    heat oven to 425

Beat egg, brush top of dough with egg, sprinkly top with the remaining 1/4 cup of cheese
bake 35 minutes or until done.

NOTES: I use the whole 8oz wedge of cheese, and now I bake it in a loaf pan adjusting the cooking time.

Copied it to try Deonia thank you.  I think the foccacia has to be the easiest best tasting bread.  I used my dough hook for the first time today, worked great.

I never knew there was a "bread baking season"!  Just kidding!  Honestly, though, my mom & I have made bread year-round.  At her house (and mine now, too, I guess) it is easier in the winter.  Mom & Dad have 2 wood burning stoves.  Put the bread under them to rise.  At our house, DH & I have a wood burning furnace in the basement.  The warmth down there when it's running almost inspires me to bake bread!

BTW--where do you get Asiago cheese?  Does Walmart have it?  Might try that recipe!

I bake my own bread...well rolls...but stop in the summer and switch to store bought product. Haven't needed to yet because it is so cool in the NE.

To me, it's always bread baking season. With my Kitchen- aide, I bake bread all the time. I just made foccacio bread and pizza for dinner. It's so simple.

Yes jaejme, I get it at WalMart in the case  by the deli, It comes packaged in "pie" shaped wedges of 8 ounces. I usually buy all they have when I'm there LOL I love this bread becauseI can actually taste the cheese in it.

I'll have to try it.  I like the Asiago bread at Subway, but homemade would probably be a lot better!

I have to agree with Rottensocks about the "kitchen aid" being the kitchen table & elbow grease!  At first, I thought you meant the mixer!  The mess is half the fun of breadmaking!  I tell everyone that my mixer is my "bread machine."  Wouldn't even dream of having one of the ones that does all the work for you--not as much fun!  I told DH if we got one for a wedding gift, it was getting exchanged!  Guess everyone knew me well enough not to try it!

Re: I know it's not bread baking season right now but...

I, also, am one who makes bread by hand. I love the feel of it when it gets that "silky" feeling. But I'm now 68 years old and have really bad arthritis. When I make bread and do the kneading by hand, the next day, my hands are so swolen I cannot make a fist. So, discovering that I can use the bread dough hook has been a real boon for me. I havn't tried it with any other bread I make, but I know I will when I get around to the other kinds. But If I had to I"d still knead by hand, I'm not a bread machine lover at all.
