    I'm really curious about............

how people would feel about haveing to help pay for MJ's "public memorial". I just heard someone on TV talking about how the taxpayers will be stuck with the bill for all the extra bucks it will cost to help control the crowd at this event that will be held in a public place evidently. He said all policemen will be on overtime, etc.....

I would be willing to bet that when the Jackson family found out that if it was a private thing ( like at Neverland) that they would have to foot the bill for the extras, and that's why they're having it at a public place instead.

I know i'd be really burned up if I had to help pay for it LOL But it looks like the taxpayers are on the hook, I wonder if they loved him that much?

    AMERICA?

We won’t have to fight you. We’ll so weaken your economy until you’ll fall like overripe fruit into our hands.’--Nikita Khrushchev

If I was asked to pay for that I would not contribute. Helping a low-income family having carwashes, etc., to raise money to bury a loved one is one thing. "Helping" someone who has the money is another. I do not feel that taxpayers should foot this bill.

Given the financial crisis California is in at this time, I strongly feel the Jackson family should cough up for the extra expense for this.

I don't think it is right, but that is what will happen.

Thought California was broke and couldn't pay a lot of their bills already.  Well, we'll see what comes of the memorial.

If the family wants a public service, then they should pay for it.

I'm not sure whether it would be the state or the county or the city or a combination who would incur expenses as a result of this funeral. Either way, that's just an expense that happens with an event like this.

I had heard something about an admission charge to the service at the Staples Center yesterday, but I haven't kept up with it so I don't know if they're doing that for sure or if that was just a rumor or still under consideration or what. At first it sounded like a bad idea, but the more I think about it... why not? It would perhaps keep some who would have gone for a freebie away, thus helping just a bit with crowd control.

Edited to add: And a public thing at Neverland, no matter who foots the bill, would have been completely impractical and a REAL nightmare for everybody. That place is in a rather secluded area from what I've seen, and the roads leading to it aren't exactly 4- or 6-lane highways. It would have been a complete mess.

Calif. is always broke...LOL....living there for as long as we did the annual state budget mess was well...an annual event...and some years IOU's were issued....nothing new...just worse this year...

I believe...and I could be wrong....if one uses police etc...then they must be the ones to pay for them....like having a police escort for a funeral procession....so I would think the family will be billed..or the estate....and good luck getting that $$$$ with the M. Jackson estate being $4,000.000.00 in the red.....

DH heard this on the news last night as well. They were considering charging $25.00 per person to attend the memorial.

Think I heard that the group that was doing his tour is paying for part of it. It's like any other death of star or political leader the ole tax payer will be paying part of it but think alot is being picked up by the family. Hey if you think there is no money just wait , the estate will will be racking it in. Look at Elvis he never had the money his estate has when he was alive. I do think that the state of california should be Pd back for the extra cost. If they don't and I were a tax payer in Ca. I'd be recalling all the officals who o.k ed the cost. Just can't imagine the family or even the rich friends who'll be parading on the floor don't cover the cost.If California goes to the fed gov. for a bale out after this,,,well then you and I are picking up the tab for it. That won't fly.

A Los Angeles councilwoman said this morning that things like this are built into the budget.   She said it at least a couple of times.   But someone said that people could contribute to it if they wished.  And another spokesman said the tickets to this are FREE.  No one is being charged for the tickets.

They couldn't have it at Neverland as there is no available parking.  It just wouldn't have worked there.

This morning a spokesman also said there will be no funeral procession.
