On or about the 3 minute mark of her statement, I thought maybe I was watching Tina Fey.

I read over the transcript of her resignation speech and interesting enough, it looks like she didn't use the word 'Republican' once. Hmm... maybe she's going to start her own party?

Cooking, you'd better get ready to get slammed.  We all know the flying pig is going to jump right into this post as soon as she can, and of course she can't stand it when someone disagrees with her, so she has to slam someone.  It isn't going to be me, though.  She's given me enough trouble.  I'm staying outta this one.

    Re: Congratulations, Alaska! Palin quits!

Several people have asked why we don't like her.

Let's see.  She ignored the Senate's choice for a senator to replace a senator who resigned.  She appointed Wayne Ross as Attorney General.  He's a self-proclaimed bigot.  Luckily he wasn't confirmed. She has ignored public input on a lot of issues including aerial wolf hunting.  Fishermen don't like her.  She has ignored the plight of our native villages. She fired Beverly Wooley, the state Health Director.  I could go on and on.

Now will some of you tell me why you like her?

I appreciate a woman who didn't have to ride her husband's coat tails to be in a position of power. I think she's a good mother. First you all(several posting here on this thread) b!tched about how she had left her children behind to go on the campaign trail(isn't Obama a dad??). Then, when the children were shown to be joining her on the trail, you b!tched about that. Yes,her dd got pregnant at 17. I would venture to say several of our posters here have either gotten pregnant at a very young age,or your dd has. It not uncommon. Unfortunate, yes. Uncommon, hardly. She may not sound very cultured, but she does sound like a real person.

AP,as for her appointing a bigot ,I'll counter that with the crooks Obama has appointed. And it is my understanding the aerial wolf hunting was necessary because there were so many of them, the wolves were wiping out the caribou, moose, and other animals Alaska depends on to help drive their economy. Im sure you know more about that than I do,but that is my understanding.

Edited to add: If she is dropping out of politics, then thank goodness! It seems as if every other day someone(*cough) has to start an "I hate Palin" thread.Sleep

You took my thoughts and put them into words.  Thank you.

The people Obama has surrounded himself with are as corrupt as they come.  Look how they ousted the Inspector General because he challenged/questioned where some $$ was being used inappropriately by one of Obama's 'friends.'

Two wrongs don't make a right. This was about Palin.

Bristol getting pregnant is not why I don't like her.  I didn't say a thing about her parading her children around.

I don't like the way she has governed the state of Alaska.  I had high hopes for her at the beginning because she started off on a postive note.  She sold the jet the former governor bought.  She also kept a few other campaign promises. But somewhere she lost sight of where we were heading.

You mean she's so lame that now she has to duck?

All I see is another politician doing what politicians do.  She's "going to ground" to let the BS settle down, so she can run for (or be available for) another, more important political office.  William Clinton did the same thing, as I recall, several years ago...

Starting her own party would be like old Joe Vogel wanted to do. That would be right down her alley, have Alaska cecede from US and she can run for the office of President of Alaska.

Alaska's loss, IMHO.  I agree with your writings, Momtljk.  Palin is a hardworking and smart woman and a mom to a large family (by nowadays standards) all at the same time.  I wish her only the best at whatever she does.

Well, if some of you think she is going to run for senator, I'd much rather have her representing my state than the foul mouthed jerk that finally got the job.  Franken.

Rumors fly about Palin’s ‘iceberg scandal’

In the wake of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin’s surprise resignation on Friday, rumors are beginning to circulate that she might have acted in anticipation of a previously unsuspected scandal being revealed.

Alaskan blogger Shannyn Moore suggested at Huffington Post that “rumors of an ‘iceberg scandal’ have been circulating” even before today’s announcement.

“Resignation is certainly out of character for Sarah Palin,” Moore noted. “Senator Mark Begich had a meeting with Sarah Palin two days ago with no mention of her leaving office. Palin’s press secretary, David Murrow had posted on his Facebook page Wednesday, ‘David Murrow is considering life’s ironies.’ He was hired less than a month ago. Yesterday he wrote, ‘There’s gonna be some fireworks this weekend!’”

Josh Marshall at Talking Points Memo similarly suggested, “Remember that based on the public record, Palin is a wildly unethical public official, guilty at a minimum of numerous instances of abusing her authority as governor. And a lot of very damaging information has come out about her in the last few days — though mainly embarrassing information about her character rather than new evidence of bad acts. I would not be surprised if this latest round of revelations shook something else loose that we haven’t heard about yet.”

Moore later spoke by phone with BradBlog’s Brad Friedman and told him that “Palin is ‘resigning as part of damage control’ due to a scandal that is ‘not of a family nature.’”

“The governor would not be able to continue her job when it comes out,” Moore told Friedman. “Why would Mark Sanford not resign, but Sarah Palin did? Her family didn’t even know about the resignation until they were standing with her by the lake when she made her announcement.”
