HAPPY 4th OF JULY TO ALL MY GRANNIE FRIENDS  I see some of us have plans for the day. Girls are up & had breakfast.  They want to get in the pool already.  Think they'll wait till it warms up a bit.  Sun is shining.   It should be a great day.

    GRAMMY  Enjoy the parade.

STYLIST  God is good to us, isn't he?

Good Morning Grannies and Happy 4th of July to all.

Off to have breakfast out and then home to the AC!  Set some more high temp records last week and no relief in sight.  Lily you would love the weather here - definitely wouldn't need a sweatshirt!

Hope everyone has a good day whatever you have planned.  There are several fireworks and other celebrations going on in the area but I will pass as I don't like being in crowds anymore.  I can see the tall fireworks from the Bush Library tonight from my back yard and year all the "booms" also it will be televised so that will be fine with me.

Glee what kind of appetizers did you make. I never go to parties of that kind we generally have munchies and booze and are pretty casual . I don't think I have ever made an appetizer in my life. Heck don't need anything to whet my appetite it is always good.

That is a very nice thought Marilyn thank you for reminding us it is not just fireworks  and picnics.

Nancy I may grill but won't visit with neighbors they are all so nasty . My redneck neighbors had a big fight and she walked out a week or so ago . I would never have known if one of my other neighbors had not told me. I heard a few loud voices but sort of ignored it not uncommon around here. Well we will see how long that lasts.

Grammy lucky you a nice parade. I like a parade but would not like the crowds. Whenever there is a parade here it goes right down my street so I sit on my front porch and watch it go by . Very handy Lady always loved the parades. The boys don't care much .

Happy fourth ot you also CP.

Stylist sounds like a good day planned all except for the games. I have never liked to play games I am not good at them and I get bored. Too much sitting still I don't like that . I always find something else to do. I will play a couple of card games but forget all that other stuff. Once in awhile maybe trivial pursuit but that just lets me know how little I do  know LOL.

Wanda wait for me I am hungry also no breakfast as of yet but I am about ready for it . I have done a few little tiny 5's they barely count probably need to do 10 to egual one 5 LOL . Ok what are mountain pies??? I never heard of those.  Just think of the hair as hairs of love if a dog loves you, you have to be a good person. Lots of hairs of love at my house.

Well not doing anything here either Lily but that is ok . Not very bright out yet and it is going on 10:00 at least it is not raining.

Cindy have a good day in St Cloud. I really do not care much for Red Lobster it is ok but would not be my first choice.  I think any day you can spend quality time with your spouse is a good day. I do miss that time it is not the same when you spend it with the kids. Not the same even with a boyfriend but that is closer LOL .

Well Alby smores are pretty rich and messy so maybe he just would rather skip them I have had them once just to try them not a biggy for me either LOL .  I felt like I needed a bath when I was done with it and we were camping so not good LOL . I hate being sticky.

IC how nice you have the girls for a holiday that makes it more fun and more work LOL . It is still overcast here I hope the sun arrives sometime today.

Mimit as hot as it is in your area it sounds like going out for breakfast is your best bet. I love breakfast out. It just starts the day nicely. I only do it when I am traveling though . Stay cool it is still not very warm here yet.

Well I think I am about  caught up so now will go make some breakfast boy am I ready for it. I know Vinney will come follow me as soon as he wakes up and realizes I have left the room . He is my shadow that goes in and out with me and what could be the use of him is more than I can see. Well not really he is good for hugging .

Good Morning Ladies - - Rained over night here too, and kinda gloom out there - I think it's suppost to improve as the day go's on though.  I was up a little before 6, but layed back down, and didn't get up until 8:15.  Have a load of whites in the washer, waiting to be moved actuall, and the paper read, toast and a banana is gone, and the second cup of coffee is empty.  Guess I should get up and fill it and move the laundry.  That's about my day - - Gosh, I'm exciting!  I am going to try a new salad that one of the foundation members wife brought to the golf tournament.  I tryed it and liked it, so she called this week and was coming down, and I asked if she would bring the receipe for me.  Maybe I will post it for you gals, it was so pretty and refreshing.  That got me to thinking about another cucumber salad I do, and I think some of you might enjoy, so maybe I'll get that out too.  I don't think I haven't given it to you already.

I got some groceries after I went to the WC after work - had some good buys this week - got a pork loin for 1.49 lb.  Had it cut in a couple of roast and then tenderized porl loin slices -they make a good sandwich on toast.  A whole pinneapple was 1.49 and cantalope 1.39. I need to let it sit and rippen a tad though.  Celery was .59 a stalk and brocolli 1.39 a bunch.

Well, gotta do the laundry detail and I'm still in my night gown - time to get a move on I think.

     Happy Independence Day!!

    A cloudy one here.

SharonF, Cell phones are nice IF you remember to take it along. I thought of taking ours along when I rode with DH to haul hay. But I forgot it. Too bad we had a flat tire on the wagon. So we couldn't call anyone. We had to drive somewhere and get someone to help. The neighbor forgot to put the jack in the truck.  So later I was going to take the phone and then couldn't find it. Looked everywhere. Just before I was going to bed I remembered the last time we went in the woods it was cold and I wore a jacket. I found the phone in the pocket, right where I put it. DUH!!!!!!!                       I hope your DD is feeling better. It almost sounds like a trip to the dr would be in order soon.

Grammy, What are mountain pies? When we had our campfire the boys wanted to make s'mores. I only had minimarshmallows. So that wasn't going to work. I did buy some on sale the other day. So I am ready if we do that again.

I have the laundry on the line. DS#2 was here so visited with him. His DW has a family reunion they are going to. More hay to haul here today. Since it is a holiday I will ride along.

Good morning, Grannies and happy 4th of July!  We got 3 inches of rain overnight and my mom and dad just about 30 miles away got more than 4!  Before the rain, though, it was a perfect evening and we sure enjoyed the Aaron Tippin concert at the Capitol and we saw several old friends with whom we had fun visiting.  Only bummer was that Cold Stone was closed when we headed home at 10:00 and I wanted to use my birthday coupon for a free ice cream!

Justme, I'm another one that wants to know what mountain pies are??  You always cook such good things for your family gatherings!

Greenback, looking forward to both those recipes.  We got our first 6 cucumbers out of the garden yesterday.  DH planted a different kind this year, they are not the burpless, they are lighter green, smaller and bumpy!

ALBY and STYLIST, so glad that both of you are having much better days this year than last!  You have double reasons to celebrate.

SharonF, so glad your DD is doing better, that is scary about her passing out, but they're lucky to have a nurse in the family!

    MJ, you're sounding feisty today!

I'm going to head out for my walk now although it is looking like rain again.  I'll take my cell phone--thanks for remind me Fran-- although I am usually never without mine anymore actually.  I'll call DH to come and get me if it starts raining.  Then I've got vegetables to slice to go on the grill in foil packets and a fresh corn dish that is corn off the cob with green peppers, pimento (I'm not a big fan of that, but it is just a little) and onion sauteed and then has a bit of honey and finshed with a little cheese and bacon.  I'm not going to add the cheese, though.  We got corn for $3 a dozen on sale at the store--they wanted $6 a dozen at the local farmer's market!  Lots of things very high there!

Got to go, somebody needs to light a firecracker under me, this rain has made me sluggish!

I will go back and read all the posts later, but for those who asked and MJ (I thought appetizers were munchies and booze) I made sweet sausage rolls which are miniture smoked sausage wrapped in cresent roll and baked in a mixture of butter, nuts honey and brown sugar also made beer/cheese dip (how WI can you get) it is cream cheese, sour cream, powdered ranch dressing, 1/2 can of beer and cheddar cheese- you can serve it with crackers, pretzels or whatever you like.

We tried to take Jameson for a walk this morning, but so many mosquitos we had to come in. He looks so cute in his "Baby's 1st 4th of July outfit"

Have a good day and I will add my "God Bless America"

Back again.  DH and I went downtown and walked around the park.  They had a lot of antique cars to look at and it brought back a lot of memories!!  A friend of ours from church had a car entered there so he talked and walked around with us.  They also had the 50's music playing.  Loved it. I told DH I'd enjoy a CD with the popular 50's music. Is there one? I'd want the original singers.  There's not a ray of sunshine here today.  We have to make our own.  It's 69º but it feels cool.  We'll be leaving here in a couple of hours for Red Lobster.  It's an hour away.

DEBBIE  Any verdict on the Granny meeting?  We sure hope you can come.  Like Grammy said, we could even stay later on Sunday.  Our farmers market is also expensive but I guess that's the price one pays if they want fresh veggies and fruit.
GU  Isn't it fun dressing those little ones in the cutest outfits?  Maybe it's me, but they seem to have cuter things for kids today than they did when ours were little.
GRAM  We have a reunion in a month too.  It's that time of year.  Do you have all the hay cut yet?
ICOOK  Will you be watching any fireworks with the DGC or do you set off your own?  Kasha doesn't like them, how about Buttercup?
ALBY  Congratulations on your victory too!!!  Are you still doing well?  I surely hope so, you've been through a lot!!!!
MAMMA  All right,  you think of me at Red Lobster and I'll think of you too.  Yummy food, don't you think?  LOL

I guess I'll play some spider solitare then get ready to go.  BBL

Laundry is back where it belongs, and I made the Veggie Valley Salad - I used brocolli, carrots, celery, onion, green perrer, radishes, and tomatoes.  That's what I had, and it made a colorful bowl. Just had some with a chicken salad sandwich on a 7grain bun that I had gotten from some of the Amish.  They are good, but heavy.  I added a little sugar to the salad, but I noticed as I was making the dressing, that I had boughten Hiden Valley Dip mix instead of dressing - don't know if it makes much difference or not, but I used it - actually, I used an off brand of ranch mix. I emptyed the dish washer and it's got a good start toward filling it again.  Most of the time it takes a week to fill.

Fran you wouldn't be hanging out clothes or hauling hay here today.

GU, I agree - munchies are the same things.  And I don't think of it as something to increase your appeite, but to let you hold off untill the main course is served - - and, of course, they go best with a beverage!!!

Stylist and ALby, you both have BIG reasons to celebrate today!

Quiet afternoon right now. Most of the neighbors went to the parade. Even with the roads around us blocked off for the parade, I did get Laura very near where the band truck was parked. People stake their chair sites for the parade the night before. We don't always go every year.

JANE, I agree with you and GLEE, munchies, appetizers, all something to nibble on before the big meal. I like to make different kinds of tortilla rollups.

STYLIST, sounds like that 50's music had you tapping your toe. You should have grabbed DH and give him a couple of twirls.

GLEE, the director at the Sr. Center made those doggie bites for our pot luck and they are good. The dip sounds good, too. How about posting the recipe or is it about a cup of each?

DEBBIE, we're no where near getting veggies, yet. I always have my cell phone when I walk.

FRAN, where does your ride take you when you're hauling hay? I always meant to tell you, your pickle recipe got better and better after a while. This year I am making a jar for DBIL, too.

MJ, that is a bummer to have "jerks" for neighbors. We are lucky to be surrounded by good guys.

MIMIB, same for us, no big crowds. We see the city fireworks from our patio. If the mosquitoes are watching them, too, we can see them from our family room.

ICOOK, if it's warm enough, stick your feet in the pool with the girls.

ALBY, glad Gary could get out fishing, today. Hope he had some success, too. Congrats to you and STYLIST for a good year and something to celebrate.

MAMMA, I like Red Lobster. We just got a coupon in e-mail for $4.00. I like to go on Tuesday, it is Shrimp Lover's night.

LILY, did your area get "ungloomed", yet?

WANDA, I want to know about the mountain pies, too. All I can surmise is the pie you make in a press over the campfire.

CP, what did you find to do, today? Anything patrotic?

GRAMMY, how was the parade? Our city's is a long one, Laura's band was float # 53. But, always lots of scouts and dance groups marching in it. I saw a bunch of motorcycles lining up, too. Maybe I should organize a group of ATV riders one year. LOL

The flag on the flagpole is still, so there is no breeze. Russell has a timer light for the flag, so it stays up all the time.

Good Afternoon Ladies...It's raining here now and I'm thinking about taking a little nap. I went down town to the farmers market this morning. Got the BIGGEST blueberries I've ever seen. Got a nice cantalope and some Lilys, that I took out to my DD house.

After I got home I made some  cucumber soup. My DD's  neighbor gave me some cucumbers that had gotten to big, also made some zucchini/apple bread., used splenda in it. I intend to give a loaf to the lady that gave me the zuccini, she is diabetic.

I don't think I'm going to see the fireworks our town puts on, can see and hear some from my house. Sugar does not like the noise, so I'm staying home with her.

Well, there is not much to do in the rain, or at least nothing I want to do,LOL, so I'll just take a little nap.

Grannies, I have had a great time todaySurprise I met my friend at 9:15 we drove downtown. Lots of parking places. Found a nice spot to sit on the court house wall.  Historic old court house that take up a city block. The parade starting point was about 2 miles away. The parade started at 10. The city concert band started playing in the  gazebo on the court house lawn at 10. They played until the parade arrived. After the parade there was more music and veterans were recognized. Another concert with a local personality who has several Dove awards. Four hrs and nothing boring about it and not a huge crowd to deal with either. It sprinkled a bit during the last part but we stayed till the end. Went to lunch and home. The restraunt felt so cold after being in the rain I was chilled. Got into a nice warm shower and now have night clothes onSurprise Nice and comfy. A light rain has been falling for a couple of hrs now. Looks like a lot of fireworks won't go off tonight! We had such a nice time we are planning to go to the concert in the park next week. It's been a few yr since I've done much of anything so this is all new againBig Smile

I read all the post from today and there are lots of grannes busy with family and friends with good eats thrown into the mix.

I'll ck in later to see if anyone is here to chat.
