I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday!  We were blessed with a beautiful day....family, friends, food, fun and fireworks!!  It just doesn't get better than that.  Tomorrow will be a day at home....I'll make a veggie platter and a taco salad....something on the grill too...maybe ribs.

I'm also hoping that the weather is hot enough for me to go in the pool....I haven't been in yet this year.  I only put my bathing suit on at night and sneak outside so no one sees me!!  LOL  Actually...it's true!!  I love to swim at night....something so relaxing about it.

Good evening, kimsonmerk! Thought I would surely be the last one to show up! Guess our staying home is one of the reasons I was able to make it. We didn't do anything. Could hear the fireworks all around, but it was a 'drizzly' day here. An after-dark swim sounds lovely. Never did learn how though. We were never close to water when I was growing-up. Anyone have the time to explain some of the terms you-all use here? Example...'bump'... thanks...

All things are possible but trust God for the best for you.

    Hello there, Kim,

glad you enjoyed the day. We had great weather, a high of 78 and a slight breeze, only a few clouds. Only I stayed hoe and took it asy. Had a bad night, woke up at 1 AM with my heart doing sommersaults again so had to get up and take extra meds to slow it down.

Takes about 20`30 minutes to take effect and the waiting time is awful. The med helps but just wipes me out for a day or so, it makes me real tired.  Did not get to do any canning, it will just have to wait until tomorrow, when it will be a bit hot but I do have an air conditioner in the kitchen window. Hope I will be feeling my old self again by then.

In other words, all I did today was being lazy.

We had a litle exiteent today. Lots of firworks all day and then around noon I heard sirens and a small firetruck came racing by, Then 2 big ones and an ambulance, then another big fire truck. From my living room window I could see the taillights bliking on the last ruck parked up the street from me. Could not go out because I was still in my PJs so called a neighbor in the apartment house up the avenue. She did not know what was going on but someone came to see her right then and the lady told us which house it was.

Sure enough, getting rieworls ready inside was a bad idea and they set their house on fire. They were lucky nobofy was hurt badly or killed. You would think this would have put a damper on the rest of the nieghborhood but nope, they arestill blasting away instead of waiting for the nice big fireworks put on by the city, down in the park by the lake. That is what I watch right from my doorsteps. Only 45 minutes to go for it to start.

Hi, Karen,'saw you earlier, posting over in KC.

I also spent  the day at home but it was because of a reason I did not like, hopefully tomorrow will be better.

"Bump" means you give the post a boost to get it into first place again on the board, instead of letting it slide into oblivion. I don't know all the abbreviations but 75% of them so ask away unless Kim gets ahead of me (I am a slow typist)

     Hello Karen and Gretel....

Karen - happy to see you back here....I took a nap after our party and woke up to the sound of fireworks in the neighborhood!  We were lucky not to have any rain or clouds today....just mild temps and sunshine.

Gretel - sorry to hear you had a rough night.  Does that happen often?  I hope you're feeling better tonight.

Re: Attn: 4th of July "Night Owls".....

Oh, Kim, we must have posted at the same time.

OOOps, forgot my ctrl 3 again, I do this when I get into a hurry.

Talk about swimming at night. I love it, even when we were kids my girlfriemd and I would sneak through the fence of the town swimming pool and go swimming in the dark. The water was always warmer than the air. Did some imprompto skinny dipping eveb as an adult when nobody else was around. It is relaxing, especially when it is nice and quiet after a busy day.

Kim, I suffer from atrial, fibrillations. They say they are not life threatening but let me assure you they scare the daylights out of you when get an episode. Sometimes I can go 3-4 weeks without having one, then I can get 3-4 days in row when I wish somebody could stop it without taking the extra "wipe-out" dose of BPmed to slow it down. This is the reason I am also on Coumadin, when your hert turns sommersaults the chambers get too full of blood ad can't pump it out fast enough. It could cogukate and lead to stroke that is why people who have this need to be on coumadin to keep the blood from cogulating too easily.

The big vein in my left arm colapsed and they have to poke me all over trying to get enough blood for a pro-time test every week or two or three, depending on the results of the last test.

By chance I was surfing the web and discovered they now have IND home monitoring sytems, sort of like the tests diabetics do at home. THis is omething new since last year. I contacted a supplier, they inturn will gettogther with my doctor since only people with mechanical heart valves, deep vein thrombosis and atrial fibs qualify for Medicare to pay for the testing strips. The compnay will loan the tester which is about 8" loing and as wide as your hand. You poke your finger, out the drop of blood on a test strip and insert into the tester. It will automatically send the resylts to the compnay and forward it to your doctor within 2 hrs so he can adjust your coumadin accordingly.

The VA had studued and tsted these thibgs for a year and found they are just as accurate as lab analysis. I should get mine within 2-3 weeks. Doctor determines how many tests you need, one a week or one every other week or once a month, and the comany wil sned you the strips. When you do not need it any more all you have to do is rturn the tester to the comopany, that is the only stipulation.

I am going t like that very much. Was told some clinics already have those and use them instead of drawing blood for lab tests. Not our hospital, it was brand new to them. Even though they stand to lose money by not doing the lab work my doctor thinks it is a good thing for some of his patients and will save Medicare some money. Even if the strips are expensive, they are not as expensive as a phlobotomist drawing blood, haveing the hospital lab do the analysis and having to see the doctor. THis way all he has to do is call me and tell me how much more or less coumadin I have to take IF he thinks an adjustemnt is ncessary.

Therfore, I think the inetrnet is great for finding such thibgs out. I plan to see a cardiologist in Bismarck this fall. He is a specialist in heart rytm disorders and also does Ablations if oibe is a candidate. I want to find out whether I am a candidate for such a procedure or not because it is no fun to put up with this. When I go soewhere I always carry an "emergency kit" with me. HJust a few of those extra bP meds and a few Graham crackers to help get them down (I have a hard tim swalowing pills without a little bit if food, even if it is only 1/4 of a graham cracker and some water. The big fireworks just started so I will go out on the steps and watch for a few minutes.

Gretel.....so there's a wild side to you!!!  I would have never guessed!!  LOL

I would love to jump in the pool now...but it's really not that hot out...warm but not hot.  The evening air will make the water seem colder.  I like the pool water to be like bath water.  Until we get some hot summer days...that's not gonna happen I'm afraid.

I wonder where Bonnie is tonight.  Maybe she and mom went to the casino....hope they're winning!!

I wish some of our faithful friends would come back to "night owls".  I miss them...we haven't heard from Barb, Karen, Rochell, Paulette, Suzie, etc.

Re: Attn: 4th of July "Night Owls".....

Hi All!  Sorry you aren't feeling well, and have had a bad day.  We have just been plain lazy today!  Mom is feeling back to her old self again, though, so that is good.  Taz is driving me nuts, but that is usual!

Some of the abbreviations:  TIA (thanks in advance); BRB (be right back); BBL (be back later); TTYL (talk to you later), and as was already explained, bump is to push the post back to the forefront.  If there are any in particular you want to know, just ask!  Like we said before, we are a friendly bunch!  Never bad feelings or anything here...just fun, friendship, laughter (and sometimes tears), and always a friendly shoulder!

    Hugs!

No Casino tonight, Kim!  We'll be there tomorrow after church!  I'm with you, I really wish some of the old crowd would come back, I miss them, and they are missing out on all these new Hooters!

Bonnie I thought maybe you and mom had gone to the casino.  I'm happy to hear that she's feeling better today.
Have you heard from any of our "old, dear night owls"?  I'm missing so many of them....and Pat...haven't heard from her in a while either.  I wish some of them would stop by and update us...it's been a long, long time for many of them.
I'm going to get a snack.....I thought that I had eaten enough today to last until tomorrow....but I'm getting a little hungry now.  I guess that's why "midnight snacks" were invented.

Re: Attn: 4th of July "Night Owls".....

I'm catching some of them on facebook, Kim, but I haven't figured out how that works yet!  We are just going from one fireworks show to the next on tv!  You need to be here to swim--the air temp was 112 today but has cooled down to a nice chilly 106--pool temp is in the mid-90's.
