Does 8 oz. of semi sweet chocolate chips equal

half a pound? A pound is 16 ounces but measuring chips in a cup is by volumn, not by weight. It seems light to me. My friend needs to know to make candy. Thanks, Liz

Chocolate chips are measured by weight, not volume. Most bags of chips are 12 oz. now. You can weigh them on a scale or estimate. 2/3 of the bag would be 8 oz. And you get to eat the rest!!

This is from Wiki Answers -- so it appears that she just has to measure.1 1/3 cups should be a half pound of chips.

How many cups of chocolate chips are in one pound?

    [Edit]

    Approximately 2 and 2/3 cups.

According to Hershey's one cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips is equal to 6 ounces.

There is 16 ounces in a pound of chocolate.

Therefore, 2 and 2/3 cups of chocolate chips would equal one pound.

You are so right, and that's why chocolate chips usually come in 12oz bags...you have exactly 2 cups of chocolate in the package.

Just putting in my 2 cents worth, LOL.  Thanks,  Mike
