    Cookie Recipe

I hope someone out there can help me.  My Mom used to make these soft Molasses Cookies and the recipe was in an old Betty Crocker Cookbook, red cover, thick, probably from the 1940s or 50s. There were approximately 15 ingredients in the recipe; you could use cold coffee in place of water; raisins, dark molasses.  Wonderful cookies and she made them around the holidays.  When she passed away, my sister took the cookbook and refuses to share the recipe.  My grandchildren remember these cookies and I would like very much to find the recipe so I can make them for my grandchildren.  Thanks so much in advance for any assistance.

    1/4 cup shortening

    1/4 cup butter/margarine, softened

    1/4 cup cold coffee

    1/2 teaspoon baking soda

    1/2 teaspoon salt

    1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

    1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

    1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

    1 1/4 cups raisins

    3/4 cups chopped nuts

    heat oven to 375 degrees...

mix brown sugar, shortening, butter/margarine, coffee, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg, when well combined stir in remaining ingred....

drop by rounded teaspoons onto ungreased cookie sheets, 2 inches apart....bake 8-10 minutes....makes about 4 dozen cookies...

    Shelly

What you provided sounds very close.  I am going to make some and let you know.   My Mom has been gone 6 years this Thanksgiving.  So, when it gets around the holidays, the cookies come to mine.  I have asked both my sisters over the last 4 years and they refuse.  It is a control thing with them.  However, I am persistent and I figured one of these days, I would find it.  I did have a copy; however, I have moved so many times-I think it may have gotten lost.

Thank you so very much.  I leave you with peace, light and love. Right Hug

Cut with floured 2 3/4-inch round cutter (or cut with clean food can with both ends removed, such as rectangular-shaped pork luncheon meat can). Place about 2 inches apart on cookie sheet.

I would look in an antique shop or at garage sales.  I found one just like my mom's at an antique shop, it was the old betty crocker cookie book.  I was very happy to find it.

    Good luck.
