Re: H L Topic of Week Nov. 1-7 ~ Foods That Boost Brainpower!~

let's see if I can do this again......

Natasha - don't feel too bad about sean & the silent treatment, we're allowed to get mad or irritated (or frustrated, fed up and majorly p.o'd)  at our dh's. It's our right as wives LOL!!!  Good for your Grandmother - I"m glad she stood up for herself. Moving is a huge pain and a lot of people would stay miserable instead of move. She doesn't have to put up with that, what is wrong with them for using her that way?!?!? That burns me up.

Rebecca - ((((((hugs))))))) sorry about the car but I'm so glad it wasn't worse! The adrenaline let-down is awful :-(

Debi - I hope you're feeling better ((((hugs)))) we had the stomach flu go through the house two weeks ago. Luckily it was gone in 24hrs, but it's miserable!

Muril - I'm so happy to hear Miss Nancy can have real food again! Yippee!!!!!   That's cute about her being a chicken - what a cut up she is! She's right, you are very good to her. You always know what she needs even before she knows :-)  She's so lucky to have you (((hugs)))

Dusta - LOL at Lulu thinking she was on the way to the groomer's :-)  Smart pup that one Dog  I'm glad you could get out on the bike, I know you miss it.  What a sweet memory of your mom with the dressing (((hugs)))  isn't it funny how nothing we make tastes as good as their food? Same recipe same preparation, but something always seems off...

Dr Phil & Robin - they can be weird.  I wish she would have explained the reason behind "blossom", it's not a typical grandmother name/nickname.  I'm curious as to why she wants that! Sam calls my mom & mil "amma"  same as "anna" but with M's. She can say g,r & d unless it's all mashed together in one word LOL!!!  My mom says the gkids can call her anything except "granny" she hates that name.

Jet - have fun this week! The circumstances are bad, hate to hear of a death in their family. But you're going to have so much fun Big Smile

Kris - the Love boxes are a neat idea! You're such a cool aunt :-)  You can do the half marathon walk!!! April is 6 months away & that's plenty of time. We'll give you all the pep you want Wink   I like Zits & Baby Blues, also like Lio. It's dark & unexpected humor, just plain old goofy sometimes. I miss Foxtrot. I know it's still in the sunday paper, but I miss the daily strip. I'd also love to see Calvin & Hobbes back.

    Hello to everyone!!!!

we had a really good halloween - not many kids because we had rain on & off, maybe 30 when we usually get 80-100. I've got way to many snack-size bags of chips in the house!  I brought some to work today for the guys, but everyone had the same idea. The kitchen is FULL of goodies Tongue Tied

I've got some pictures of Sam to post - halloween & a few others. I'll do that in a few minutes. She was a lady bug & so dang cute!!!!  But she's really coming into her own - has very definite ideas of what she wants to wear & what she wants to do. I've got a very stubborn opinionated kid on my hands.

gee, so unlike me I can't figure out where she gets it.....Angel

Sean took a pic of his speedometer today going 60mph on the dot to show me when he got home. Haha. He said hes joined the old ladies driving club.

Dawn, try typing replies in Wordpad or something, then copy and paste so you dont lose it. Those pics are Sam are adorable. You (or your husband) take really good pics.

In After School Tutoring I have a boy who is behind in Social Studies.  The teacher said he does better if he hears the information and follows along in the book so could I read to him.  Sure!  No problem.  Oh my word!  Give me back my math!  LOL!  We are studying the ancient Mesopotamia.  I'm stumbling over the pronounciation of these ancient words and cultures and he is correcting me!  I told him maybe he should takeover and read to me.  He just smiled and said he heard the words in the classroom.

Dawn you are recording Samantha's growth in beautiful pictures!

Thank you for all your support!  Off to PEO tonight.

    Good Evening Ladies!

Oh my goodness look at the sweet Lady Bug! Dawn, she is adorable! :) She is so photogenic- don't think I have seen a bad picture of that doll!

Re: Ms Nancy.... I talked to Phyllis today and Ms Nancy enjoyed her food today. She was somewhat confused though and they are having a time with her on weekends.  I noticed on Friday that off and on she would say "I don't know what I am trying to say." It was as if she couldn't quite get her complete thoughts out. She also said a few more things that were not quite right(I chalked it up to low oxygen levels- but guess that is not the case after all).  I pray this is just temporary like the episode in the hospital. I want my Nancy back.

Natasha, that is funny about DH taking a pic of the s[peedometer. LOL Sounds like he is trying to get back into your good graces. :) I ended up going to Sam's today and stocked up on some goodies- including a rotisserie chicken that we had for supper. I baked some french fries and made a salad to go with it.

Jet, Hi! glad you are getting in more babysitting hours this week. The crockpot sounds like a great idea. What recipes are you making? Have you made the cream cheese chicken everyone used to talk about? I haven't tried it but it used to be the talk of the bb a few years ago. I need to drag out our cp and make some dinners. :)

Dusta, I thought of you when I had a cup of decaf this evening! :) We have way too much candy in this house. Not only did we buy the bags of candy yesterday on sale but went by W-marts today and thiers was 1/2 off and stocked up on mini hersheys, baby ruths, mounds, and others. I told DH we need to control ourselves or we will be in big trouble. LOL OK, I have not had even one candy bar today- but plan on one before bed. :) We are planning on it lasting a year. :) We'll see....

Kris, I am sure you will do just fine with the SS tutoring. LOL on the boy correcting you. :) Kids are cute...but seriously bet you can help him with his study skills- that is what he really needs. You are great with tips and such- he will learn a lot from you.

Rebecca, are you doing ok today after all the drama over the weekend. Hope so.

Debi, how are you doing? Hope your tummy is feeling better?

Re: H L Topic of Week Nov. 1-7 ~ Foods That Boost Brainpower!~

HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!  Okay, I'm over my drama, now that I have talked to the insurance people and got a rental car - thank goodness we never reduced the insurance coverage when we paid the car off!  WHEW!  They will let me know in a couple of days if they are going to fix it or total it.  That was too stressful!  I'm so tired of being stressed out, but I said to myself yesterday that "this too shall pass" and in 5 years I likely wouldn't remember all of it anyway!  HAHAHA

Okay, y'all have been busy here without me, didn't you miss me???  HAHA

Natasha, you know what I did when my hubby got a $112 speeding ticket for speeding thru a construction zone?  Well, first I went to pay it and the lady told me I couldn't because he hadn't signed it ... and then I saw a sign that said "pay your tickets with community service"  So that's what I did, I made him sign up for community service.  He worked that sucker off, and we didn't have to pay!  HAHAHA  I'm surprised now that he actually did it, but he worked for Meals on Wheels and actually enjoyed it. So, if your location allows that, offer that to him as an option.  I don't think our insurance went up, does just a speeding ticket do that?  I had never had so much as a parking ticket when, about 6 years ago I rearended someone and totalled our car.  I had to go to court because I didn't have the right evidence of insurance in the car (we had insurance though) and the judge was like ... you've never had anything on your record before?  So, yeah, I guess I save up for the big stuff!

I just finished another Macomber XMAS book - Small Town Christmas, 2 stories in the book, OMW I need more kleenex!!!!!!!!!!  I have to stop!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the interesting article Muril, maybe that's my problem, I don't like fish, I rarely eat berries, I don't drink alcohol ... hmmmmmm maybe I'll take up vodka or something!  hAHAHAHAHA

Okay, I have to come back later and read everyone's posts and get caught up ...

Oh, wait, KRIS, you totally can do that walk/run you GO GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Alright, more later

Re: H L Topic of Week Nov. 1-7 ~ Foods That Boost Brainpower!~

Rebecca, of course we missed you!  I think I have Small Town Christmas around here somewhere. Have most of em. I love to re-read the Christmas ones especially. My fav Christmas one is the Glad Tidings (also two stories in it) having something to do with fruitcake. Unfortunately, our city doesnt offer anything like working off a ticket, they are money hungry jerks.

Muril, it must be so frustrating for Miss Nancy to KNOW what she wants to say, but cant put it together to make herself understood. Is it weird to say I hope I dont live so long that someone else has to care for me? Thats maybe a bad way to look at things... but I helped care for my grandfather towards the end... and it must have been embarassing to him, to have to be fed by me, changed his diapers, changed his clothing... I hope he knew I totally loved him and he had no reason to be embarassed, but it has to affect a person in some way. Now Im remembering my Grandpa :( I miss him. When it became too much for Grandma and a visiting nurse and all of us helping, she had to put him in a home of sorts... a private place where the lady took care of 3 people in her home. It was a wonderful place... but we found out too late the woman just didnt think highly of making him comfortable towards the end. She said she didnt think he was in pain. Visiting nurses were like, we dont care what you think this is what he needs. She withheld his morphine from him... on his final night, with us there, I reminded her with some nice THREATS that she best give him his meds EVERY 4 hours. Make him comfortable. We all knew that would be the last night and it was very hard to leave... but he did pass away very late that night. All we can do is hope that she gave him what he was supposed to have and that he didnt suffer, because I could tell her was suffering a lot *sigh* I pray I never have to be that dependent on anyone.

Okay, thats the end of that.

Kris, so sweet about that boy correcting you. Tutoring must be so rewarding. I taught a boy who was a freshman how to read in my senior year. he had been home schooled and his mother didnt teach him at all.... It was a great experience.

Re: H L Topic of Week Nov. 1-7 ~ Foods That Boost Brainpower!~

Okay, just found out that they are gonna fix my car instead of total it out ... I was kinda hoping they would just total it!  HAHAHA  and first we have to get it to a body shop to fix the frame so they can install a new radiator I guess, i'm trying to read all the stuff, it's such boy stuff!  We have a $500 deductible, so the first $$ is on us! HAHAHA  I'm okay with that, better than a kick in the pants!  Wonder how long all this will take, for now we get to drive the pretty new Nissan Sentra from Enterprise!  We have coverage for that for 30 days, so that's cool.  Better be done by then!

So Mrs. Dr. Phil wants to be called Blossom, huh?  It will likely come out BLAH BLAH I hope she knows that!  HAHAHAHAHA or SOMMY or something completely not what she has in mind!  That's just doofy anyway, what is she a flower?  I agree about someone not wanting to be called Granny, that just sounds like you are stooped over and have no teeth!

Dawn, OMW that baby of yours is too cute!  I still wanna bite her!  You know, I know it's a pain when they are this age, but it's so important for girls especially to be able to stand up, have a backbone, and know what they want.  I would rather have a kid I considered a tad difficult (which is what I've always said about both of mine) than a wimp.  I really dislike wimpy people in general.

Oh Natasha, I cracked up when I read about Sean sending you the pic of his speedometer!  HAHAHA  that would have made me more insane than the ticket ... how dare you take a picture with your cell phone while you are driving!!!!!!!!!  HAHAHAHAAHA  And, your menu sounds lovely, what time should I be there?????  HAHAHA  I don't do well at other's homes for holiday meals, except my mom of course, but they never do it quite right ... ya know?  My sister in law almost gave me a heart attack when we had Thanksgiving at her house and she made this mashed potato casserole thing with garlic and cream cheese, it was really good ... but there was NO GRAVY!!!!!!!!!!!!  She said she didn't know how to make it and didn't like canned so she just didn't have it ... Jack was like ... um, gravy?  gravy?  GRAVY??????  It was sad.  I could have make the gravy if she had just told me!  Like you, Natasha, if I do say so myself, I whip up a mean gravy.  That's why even when it was just the 2 of us I cooked a huge turkey so that I could get all that stock and what not for the gravy!  Then I would hoard the gravy for days!  HAHAHAHAH

Muril, you are so good to Miss Nancy and making the hat for the gal who works there, you are wonderful!  I am sure it is frustrating to Miss Nancy to struggle with memory issues, etc.  She's a very lucky lady since she has so much love around her, people to spend time with her, etc.  that was so sweet what you wrote the other day about how she said, "you know how to make me feel good, or take care of me, something like that.  Those are the things that make it all worth while, don't they?  That's how I feel about the kids, too.  Just when I think I'm at the end of my rope they'll say something sweet and they're so honest.  I think we lose that childlike honesty as we age, but then it comes back again when we get old.  Does that makes sense?  It's like we learn to censor ourselves as "grown ups" but I think we you get older, at least for me, I know, I will figure, what the heck, I can say whatever I want!  HA

My mom told me that all these experiences I have make me stronger and I thought, shoot, I wouldn't need to be stronger if I would stop having all  these problems! GRRRR

Okay, time to finish up the kitchen cleaning and wake up the hubby.  He missed 2 nights of work due to the car drama, so we are thrilled to see the rental in the driveway!

Re: H L Topic of Week Nov. 1-7 ~ Foods That Boost Brainpower!~

     Morning~!!

thanks for all the kind words about Baby Girl Embarrassed  I appreciate it.

Natasha - that's funny about Sean taking a picture of the speedometer. Sounds like something I'd do to dh LOL!!!!    The camera work is dh - he does photography as a hobby & has one of those fancy dancy (i.e. expensive!) cameras. That I"m not allowed to touch LOL!!!  Well, I can but chose not to. I"m so afraid I'll mess it up or break it.

Kris - that's so funny about the boy correcting you LOL!!!  I remember the mesopotamia period, history was not my best subject but that did interest me for some reason.

Rebecca - should we start calling you "Rec"? Or is it too soon?  Sorry - that warped humor of mine...  LOL!!!!!!!!   you WILL remember this 5 years from now only it won't be with dread. You'll laugh & it will be added to your "weird things that happen in life" column. Boydid I laugh when I read you signed up your dh for comm service ROFL!!!!!   That so sounds like something I'd do - there is an irony & dark humor in it Wink  Actually, dh would probably do it to me too LOL!!!!

Muril - oh poor Miss Nancy :-(  it stinks to get old. Like Natasha said, it must be frustrating to know what you want to say but can't "find" the words.  Hugs & prayers for all of you ((((hugs))))

Jet - oh no! I hope you're going to be ok. See if you can get into the dr before december, that's a long way off to feel this miserable ((((((hugs))))))   Who knows, maybe it's the new medicine you're on. It could be something simple like changing the dosage

Morning Dusta & Debi~!   And Joan, Michele, Jolene, Jolene K, Sherry, and everyone Coffee.

I forgot to mention this weeks topic - I love it!  I consume everything on the list :-)   There are a few things I need to have more often, but overall I"m good. Woohoo!!!!

This week is "eating well week". Last week was miserable with all the halloween junk, I was really good about staying away from the kitchen at work yesterday. Hopefully my willpower will be with me today!

    my eating plan for today:

breakfast - oatmeal w/ maple syrup

    snack - banana

lunch - roasted chicken (I made & shredded it over hte weekend) and swiss on whole wheat bread with mustard, baby spinach and cucumber slices. Wheat thins and water

snack - yogurt w/ granola mixed in

    dinner - seafood tacos

hope everyone has a wonderful day!!!!

    dawn
