    Canadian Corner 11/03/09

    Good Morning Friends,

I was busy yesterday, besides the regular housework had to make sure André had everything he needed.  Yesterday he walked quite a bit and he is so tired after that. His B/P is great and he will get a little stronger everyday.

Good morning Maria.  Lucky André, to have you to look after him.  He is progressing nicely -- but not to overdo as these things do take time.

I have been up for a bit --doing some cleaning.  Today is puzzle/soup/dessert day and I am hostess -- best to unclutter a bit and remove all that dog hair that is a constant in this house -- but heh I think it is securing me a place in Heaven.  -- not the clutter, I meant the dog hair.  LOL

Now I am enjoying a coffee and the computer and then I shall begin the soup.  I am make a roasted red pepper bisque (with crab).  Dessert is finished except I hae to sugar a few cranberries.  Dessert is a new one for me -- here's hoping it is a keeper.

What I would really like to do is sit back and do some puzzles, could buy bottled soup at any grocery store -- but --nah just kidding -- sort of.

David comes home today -- he'll put the clutter back into the place.  He has darts tonight.  I expect I shall be driving him.

    Have a great day all

I'm up but not quite at 'em yet. These first days of the time change are nice because it's light out when I wake up.

Nothing in particular on my agenda today, but that could change at any minute! The G'kids are home today because there's no school on election day since the schools are used as polling places. Let's hope the little dumpling spend plenty of time outdoors today...the sun is out and it's supposed to be about 21.

DGS works at a dry cleaners afternoons and early evenings. For the past few days, I've felt kind of anxious about that, thinking that sooner or later, the place would get robbed. Yesterday afternoon his boss called about 5 and said that the store where DGS works was robbed! The store is located in a strip mall with six or seven other businesses, and two men hit three of the other places first, then came in and held a gun to his head and demanded the money out of the register, grabbed it and ran out the back door. Glad he wasn't hurt! The police were already at the first business that was robbed, so they must have had it planned that there would be someone waiting in a car in back because by the time the police got the call from the cleaners, the thieves were already gone. Very scary stuff! DGS said he handed over the money immediately because he wasn't interested in being a hero!

Tomorrow is a work day for me, and the client is the owner of the dry cleaners where DGS works. Their house is big but nicely laid out and not at all cluttered, and they only have one 14-year-old son so it doesn't get particularly dirty. This is the house with the nice dog that's so roly-poly that she looks like a sausage! My Friday client will be out of town from tomorrow until Saturday so there won't be much to do there, either.

Maria, I'm so glad to hear that Mr. Twin is making good progress. Tell hiim to behave and follow doctor's orders to a T because he doesn't want me to come up there and read him the riot act!

Aleida, have you started my stocking yet? And Pat, hope the weather keeps on cooperating until everything's done before real winter sets in.

    Off to drink my coffee.

I had to put the garbage out, a job I'm not use to doing.

Cathy, we never know why a baby cries it's always a guessing game, we basically know when they are hungry, or have an upset tummy after that it's a guess.

Aleida, how was the church group yesterday? Yes, I'm off another week. The homes I work at will show the difference.

Hi Pat, it still hasn't slowed down on the farm? One problem after another eh?

WOW Dolores, that is a lot of turkeys so much work to cook for so many people. How would you figure how much to cook for that amount of people? Between you and Pat I don't know who is busier.

JP, gkids are so precious and enjoy every moment spend with them.  I adore mine.

Char, I'll be waiting for the pictures of the stamped concrete driveways.  André has never hunted, he hasn't got the stomach for it. He really is a softy could not hurt man or animal.  It's ok to hunt for food but not for pleasure, to kill for fun I do not agree with.

grammapeach, it great to have you here you are a delightful lady and have so much advice for all of us.   Sometimes I use soft scrub to remove soap scum but with a pad that will not scratch the fibreglass.

    Hope evryone enjoys their day,

No Gramma I haven't started your stocking yet -- sorry.  Now I think I will do a Christmas towel -- one of those small ones for Tiffany and then two small Christmas cards.

    On my "to-do" list

stocking for my nephew -- this will be stocking #10 -- not yet bought

birth announcement for nephew -- not yet bought

tree skirt for niece -- to match her stocking -- begun but just a bit

tree skirt for Tiffany -- not yet bought but down to two

Pooh picture for Tiffany -- bought and slightly begun -- to match two I've already done and are framed

woman picture for sister -- she gave it to me to do

woman picture for sister -- I bought it at a garage sale to go with the one she gave me to do

winter scene I bought years ago simply because I liked it and just haven't gotten to yet because I do the stuff for others first

same winter scene given to me by a sister because she thought I would really like it -- have to give it away

a couple of welcome bows that have been given to me

a Christmas Advent calendar I bought because I liked it

l have a few other things I bought because I liked them

STOCKING FOR GRAMMA -- not yet bought haha

And I feel like taking a trip to Mary Maxims -- better not -- but seriously thought of going to the other craft store in London on one of my next visits.

    gotta get cracking

    Aleida

PS -- smart of your DGS to just hand over the money -- how old is he?

Good morning everyone.  We have some really nice weather in store for the next week so I am sure the harvest in Sask just may get done yet.

Good news Maria, Andre will get stronger each day!!

How scary for your  GS to get robbed.  DD has worked for the bank for 22 years and has been robbed twice. Only once was she out in the teller part but it was very scary.

Aleida, I won't even start counting how many pictures I have around here to cross stitch!!     I have the patters for the 4 seasons, which I fell in love with 20 years ago and they still haven't even been started.  LOL  Maybe they will just get all sold in our yard sale next spring as I just can't seem to have enough time to do all the thiings I have to do.

As for the fowl supper we have been doing it many many years so we have a good idea of how much food we need.  After soup and sandwich yesterday Earl and I went and helped the lady count the money and we took in app  $5400 so was  a good day. The turkeys are almost all donated and all the potatoes were donated.

Haven't decided what I will do today, should cut up and cook some of these pumpkins I have around here.

DGS is 19 and taking this fall semester off from college to work. He goes back in January. He admitted to being very, very scared when the guy produced the gun!

I wonder how Char's girls are doing this morning. Hope they at least don't get any worse. I'm wondering about the stamped concrete, too. I'd think it would be too cold to pour it now.

Don't want to upset any of you...but DD is out mowing the yard!

David talked of mowing our grass/leaves one more time also

Well sort of done now.  The soup needs to simmer another 10 minutes, cool and then I puree it.  I just did sugared cranberries for the first time -- I know, I know -- no big deal -- but heh, it was my first time.

I am listening to an oldies station from Dallas, Texas -- didn't really have to put Texas there -- everyone knows where Dallas is -- anyways love the oldies.

    be good.

    Re: Canadian Corner 11/03/09

Good morning.  I've got five kids today.  The girls are much better, but I figured I would keep them home and have them rest one day.  Kaeli has stuff she can do at home, Randene will play catch up tomorrow.

Gramma, wow, how scary for DGS.  Obviously, this isn't an uncommon thing to happen.  I don't think I could work at a place if I knew the risk was high, not for a low paying job for sure!  Glad all ended well.

Well, the stamped concrete is out for this year. Not because of the cold, concrete is very very warm stuff, it can withstand cold temps.  But it's too soggy, there is no way you could do a good job.  Then when the ground froze, it would probably bulg and wreck the entire pad.  Certainly not worth that sort of risk for that sort of money.

It's coffee day. What do I serve for lunch though?  oh heavens, I have no clue!

Sunshine again today !!!!!!.  DH is into the last field.  By nightfall tomorrow harvest will be finished.  I've spent the past hour mowing grass, mulching leaves and generally tidying the yard for the coming s***.  I have some more seedpods to collect from the garden and then it can be tucked in too.  The end is in sight.

Our news is filled with H1N1 vaccine shortages and the missing ball player from here.  She and 2 other team mates went missing in North Dakota over the weekend.

I'm off to participate in a discussion tonight aboout women in Agriculture/Science and gender equality.  It could be a very interesting couple of hours.

Hope everyone stays clear of the 'bugs' floating around.  Stay well Char and I do hope the girls bounce back quickly.        Pat

Well, Randene just couldn't do it.  I had to take her to the .........school!  She woke up feeling fine, watched some tv, but was bored bored bored, begging to go to school.  So at 10 I went to school.  Kaeli on the other hand isn't feeling overly great yet, definetely good to be at home today.

So I served loaded nachos for lunch today, mmmm.  Now I think I am going to do some cleaning, then go read, I'm in the middle of a very good book.

André has slept on and off in between he does some exercise he has to do via the hospital. He does some walking and rests again.

I see that everyone is busy as usual, Char that is too bad you couldn't post a picture of the cement pad. Hopefully next year we will get to see it.
