    11/06/09 Cooking' Seniors Chat

    • Good Morning!

    • Boy, I sure am thankful I did not have the problems with Mom’s clothes when she was in the NH.  But the main reason was the woman that had done Mom and Roy’s clothes for years knew the women that worked in the laundry.  She let it be known if anything was missing they would answer to her.  So Mom never lost a thing!!

    • I read on the Treasure Mania board on Facebook that Monday it was changing.  Who knows if it is the truth or not but I kinda hope it is.  For all my Facebook buddies, please start playing it is a lot of fun and the ones of us that do could use all the digger friends we can get!

    • Today is National Oatmeal Day. Oatmeal began to be eaten as a hot breakfast porridge in Scotland, and most of the ways we eat oatmeal in this country are similar to the Scottish recipes. There are two kinds of oatmeal, both from the same grain. Steel-cut oatmeal--made by chopping the grains--is preferable, but takes longer to cook. Rolled oatmeal is made by steaming the grains, then squashing them between rollers. Some nourishment and flavor are is lost in that process, but it's so much more convenient that it dominates the market.

    • Since oats are historically grown in cold areas, that's where you find most oatmeal. The competition from grits as the preferred hot cereal in the South adds to the relative rarity of oatmeal there. However, everybody makes and eats oatmeal muffins and cookies, especially since the discovery that they lower cholesterol.

    • And Don’t Forget the basket!! Keep it full of extra hugs and prayers for all that need them!!

    • Remember the group prayer! “Heavenly Father, we ask that you watch over and care for all Cookin’ Seniors and those they love as they go about their day!!”

    • Waves and hugs to all!!

Well, prunes!! I have been awake for over an hour now…will try to get a morning nap in…   Went to knitting and laughed…it was good to be there and see my friends…especially Wendall!! He’s a hoot and makes me laugh!! My hands are aching from not having a needle in them for months now. I tried knitting while I was at Dad’s but every time I picked up my project, he would call me…so I put it away. The church was broken into again…that is plain ridiculous plus cars are being broken into while there on church property…this happened on Wed. night. They are loosing members so they don’t have the money to install a security system…it is sad.

I got Dad some more T-shirts last night. Will wait some to see IF they find any of his clothes…I doubt it. Eddy said someone (never identified themselves) called from the Haven. He told them I was on my way there. They said they would call me in Dad’s room…NEVER heard from any one!! Wonder if they will try again….

So sad about the situation at Ft. Hood. I have a friend that lives near there. I sure hope Anita wasn't on base (her DH is retired Army)...don't know if I can reach her...will have to try....
I have made a decision about the secretary position in the coin club. I will not be taking it again next year. I am tired and with gas going up again…it’s hard for us to make that long trip. We will go when we want to…we will still be members but won’t go each month. I know some will not like it but no one is paying our bills…so….
Well, hugs and prayers for all…love ya’ll…..

    Good Morning all,

I hope all who had the wide awake

syndrome  got some sleep last night.

DH doing o.k. we are taking it one day at a time.

Sugar very high but I think mainly that is a result of the The

medication he is on now.  Sigh He said he feels like pitching

all of it. But know that’s not a good

                           Idea though.

Cilla and all who were talking about the loss

of clothes in nursing home it was the opposite

                         with my Mom.

Almost every time my sis went there she

said our Mom had some nice newer   clothes

hanging in her Closet. She would ask whose

these are. They always told her they

                              are      hers now                    Hmnnn?

All the help there were very good to Mom and one particular woman who sort of took my Mother

Under her wing.  Then after Mom was there for about a year and half the lady was killed in a traffic

accident going home from work. Only about 2 mile from the nursing home.   Very sad as she

was a wonderful caring person to work with all of the confused ones.

For some reason my word doesn’t want to work right so will close for now and figure that out.

Didn’t lose power in house but for some reason yesterday everything on computer that needed

A password to open I had to put in again.  Good thing I had them all written down...

Every site I had ever gone to I had to redo.    Gremlins at work.

Wow my word sure did a number on this post.

Pale orange spreads upwards from the dark horizon as day approaches. In moments I must head out the door so that I can escort my grandson to the bus stop. The time change gives us minuscule light, but does not alleviate the danger of being hit by a vehicle on the dark, 2-lane asphalt road. There is about two feet to either side of the road, grass/weed covered and littered with broken beer bottles. Safer for me to accompany him.

    Edited to add:

Zora -- a bowl of steamy oatmeal always hits the spot. How's the finger?

Margaret -- glad your sons MIL is doing better. I, too, enjoyed a more restful night.

Cilla -- hang in there on the clothing situation. Good decision on the coin club.

Meikha -- one day at a time is about all any of us have, anymore, for dealing with health.  Gremlins visit this computer all the time. Don't worry about your post, I read it just fine.

I'm just going to slip in and add my urgency to pray for everyone involved (in any way) to the tradedy at Ft. Hood.

I'm waiting to hear from my nephew and his wife (stationed in Hawaii now) as they were heavily involved in just about every aspect of life on that base for many years and still have so many friends and contacts there. I'm sickened and saddened.

Also got a call last night that our Pastor's 5 year old granddaughter was being rushed, by ambulance, to the hospital in serious condition from the H1N1 virus. Please, please, if you are a praying person, keep them in your prayers.

I will just wave softly to everyone and give out hugs where needed.

    Tippy

Punchinello laughed, "Me, special? Why? I can't walk fast. I can't jump, My paint is peeling, Why do I matter to you?"

Eli...spoke very slowly, "Because you're mine, That's why you matter to me."

I will light a candle and ask the Goddess to watch over them. H1N1 scares me even more when children are stricken.

Good morning, A beautiful day in my neighborhood. Sunshine, cool, crisp fall day. Also a sad and heavy hearted day. The son of two friends of mine was found dead yesterday. Chris was in his early 30's, with a wife and 2 small children. Also for the families of the soilders at Ft. Hood. Something like this touches the lives of so many.

Zora - I cannot deal with oatmeal. It is oooie, goooie, yuck. It just looks nasty. Hubby loves it and as any good wife would do I will fix it for him.

Margaret E. - Enjoy your day, don't work to hard.

Cilla - Glad you enjoyed the knitting group. It was good for you all to be together. (I'm sure you needed the get away.) With all you have on you I don't blame you for giving up the Sec. job. It is a lot of work.

Sandy - Glad DH is doing better. I have an address book for my computer. I keep all my web site addresses and user names and passwords. It sure makes it easier.

Beverly - This is so funny. My DD said Sat. she was going to have to start using the Handicap bathroom, because she was getting to old to squat and needed the rail for support. Guess what she is getting for Christmas. Perfect timing.

    Tippy - Prayers as requested.(((Hugs)))

So many of us are in need of prayer and hugs today. But our basket is always full.

    Hugs and love.

    Good morning -

Glad to see yu back, Zora, & thanks for opening each day (night?)

Computer tech was here (again) yesterday, and now it's a matter of getting used to this new machine.  The vision keyboard is very easy to adapt to...so far, so good!  I notice that the keys are a little stiffer, but that's minor.  Yay!

Cilla, your coin club decision sounds like the right one.

Beverly, thank goodness you are there for your DGC.

Yesterday was pecicure day...whew!  I am thankful for willing helpful friends and people with good eyesight in my life!

And now I'm off to make some old fashioned oatmeal.  Guess I'll have to plan ahead for some steel cut, though.  It's been a while since I made that.

Waves & hugs for All - Helen

So much for a nap!! The phone has been ringing since 7:15…wrong number and this dummy has called before…like yesterday when I was trying to take a nap….geez….   Then some others have called and Dad called, too. He was back from therapy…  guess when I fall out from no sleep, I can get a nap…or maybe I need to go to Dad’s or the Bay house for a nap…that might be the answer since no one will know I am there!!
Tippy, will keep that precious 5 yr old in my prayers. I have a friend in Jacksonville that her DGS had swine flu. Thank God no one else in the family got it!! He has gotten over it, thank goodness.
Sandy, I won’t complain about our mid-70º temps…*ducking* so she can’t hit me!!! WinkLOL  Hugs to your DH…some meds do make your sugar go high…not good. Continuing to pray for his recovery.
Beverly, what a gift!! But when you need it, you NEED it!!! LOL It’s great that your DGS has you for safety reasons but the memories you are making with him are priceless!!
Brenda, sorry about your friends’ son…hugs for you, too.
Helen, glad that the new keyboard is helping you.
Adding more hugs and prayers to the basket…

Good morning all.  The day started around here as it usually does with a big bowl of oatmeal.  Love the stuff, today I put some raisins in it.

There's hammering going on outside my door, hope that he gets the ramp all framed today so the inspector can do his thing later and then the decking can go on and we'll be all set.

This darn flu stuff is sure making the rounds.  Little redhead and her big sister are both down with it.  Love my grands, but I'm staying away.

Back to that class website, it is still making me take a time out while it catches up with me.  Sure wish it didn't do that.  Take care all.  Pat

Well, it has paid off for me to be a witchy woman!! The Office Mgr called and *told* me that the co-pay would be $133.50 for each day over the 20 days Medicare would pay. I told her “Not so fast”!!  I haven’t been told by anyone how he is doing, what about his Care Plan, etc, etc…. She said she’d have a therapist call me and I could let her know if I would pay…NO…you are not listening to me!! I have to talk to Dad and my siblings before I let you know. So I’ll call you!! Whoa…she was NOT happy but tough stuff!!! This place is ticking me off big time!!

Then, the social worker called and they have found most all of Dad’s clothes!! So I will check when I get up there. I told her about the Office Mgr and how rude she was…she had been told about me not being happy about that…well, duh!!! She said that the therapists said he could be discharged on Thursday so really they should not have called!! Duh!! The right hand does NOT know what the left hand is doing!! So I am much happier now!! Now, I need to get ready (been on the phone all day!!) to go see Dad and tell him!!! Sis has a call into the Nurse Practitioner to ask medical stuff…maybe things will settle down some….but I am telling Dad he will HAVE to go to exercise class each morning…he has to get involved at Carpenter’s Creek.

I sent an email to the officers of the Coin Club informing them I would not be taking the Secretary position next year. Just wanted to let them know before hand and to give me some *back up*!! So I will stand firm!! LOL
