    SATURDAY: What's Cookin'? 11/21/2009

    Good morning friends Coffee.

Looks like another nice-n-sunny day here. Sure doesn't feel like Thanksgiving or Christmas is upon us w/ mild temps. There is a radio station that's playing all Christmas songs now.

Tonight I guess we'll have chicken francese over linguine.

    Everyone have a great day.

    Re: SATURDAY: What's Cookin'? 11/21/2009

Morning Nancy! I am on my way off to work this morning, and have some pre-Thanksgiving cooking planned for later today --

Our church is having a Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow, so I am cooking a turkey for that. Planning to try a new method -- braising, where you put the turkey breast-side down in a large roasting pan, add 3 cups of water, cover tightly and cook at 325 degrees for 6 hours. Take meat off bone, ladle some of the broth over, cover again and keep warm till needed. Marymitten over at Mary's Tea Room suggested adding some rosemary or other herbs to the water to add flavor and I think I will try that.

I'm also going to make a batch of Crockpot Dressing (don't have the recipe in front of me but I'll share it later if anybody wants it). Since DH is the only one in our family who likes it, I make a big batch for our church dinner and save out some to cook just enough for him on Thursday.

Cool and sunny here -- a beautiful fall day. Hope everybody is having a good Saturday --

Good morning What's Cookin' friends.  Waving hello to all and wishing everyone a wonderful day!

Slept in alittle this morning and getting to head out and tackle the grocery store.  A friend called me late last night to tell me that our local Publix, where she normally shopes every Friday after school, took her 2 1/2 hours to get out of last night.  She said it was tough getting down the aisles with all the carts and alot of the shelves were picked over during the day and not refilled.  I expect it to be crowded, but hopefully the shelves will be refilled this morning.

DH is driving back home after his two week hunting trip in Michigan.  He should arrive very late tonight or early tomorrow morning.  Since it's just me yet today, I'm not doing anything special for dinner tonight---probably just a piece of chicken, a sweet potato, and a green veggie.

    Good Morning All

Lori, hope you have good luck at the store this morning, I went to Safeway yesterday, it was a mad house, but I did get a ten pound turkey for 27 cents a pound, we're all going to DDs for Thanksgiving, she's serving prime rib and ham, so I'm fixing the turkey Thursday AM to have the next several days for left overs and also a turkey soup, for the freezer.

Its 36* out with light rain. Oldest DD and I are going to our first of the season Holiday Baazar, up at the pavilion at the fair grounds, 250 vendors. Look forward to it every year, beautiful  hand made things at reasonable prices.

Dinner tonight will be order in pizza, I'll make a salad to go with it. Enoy your day. Judy

    Re: SATURDAY: What's Cookin'? 11/21/2009

    Good Morning all,

I got to sleep in, so that was nice. I am going to get myself dresses and head to the mall. I hope to be there at 10 when Sears opens. I saw a necklace there I want to get for a DGD.

I need to go by the grocery store too. I need groceries for this weekend and next week too. I'm hoping to get started on baking some pies, and I also need a couple desserts to take to church for the dinner there Thursday-and I will need to take something to Sunday school tomorrow. I sure hope it's not the madhouse described!

Then I need to do a little housecleaning before kids arrive Thursday. And tonight I am going to Galveston to see Rita Rudner. A friend and I are going, and we plan on eating out first. So no plans to cook dinner around here. DH can have leftovers or pick up something.

It is supposed to get up to 62 and we have a 30% chance of rain.

    Enjoy that bazaar-it sounds great!

    Have a super day!

    Tammy

It sounds like everyone is busy with holiday plans. I guess I won't miss the madhouse at the stores today. I am about to begin the passive exercise machine on my knee for the next few hours. DH was looking for something in the pantry and now has it all pulled apart. I hope he organizes it before my sister comes to visit later this afternoon. No idea what's for dinner today.

Going to the movies this afternoon to see 2012...Sweeper was right The Road opens the 25th...I too read the book and loved it !!

Supper will be just DH and myself...he wants to open a can of the sour kraut he made...so we'll be having polish sausages, and some fauxtato salad!

     Enjoy your day!

Hi everyone. Nancy, have you ever posted the recipe for that chicken. I've noticed you have it occasionally and would be interested in seeing the recipe when you get a chance.TIA

It's 54 here but no sun in sight yet.I've been on line shopping this AM and ready to call it quits. Almost done with my christmas shopping, just a couple of DGS left to buy for, but they are 14 &18 and not easy to buy for.Everyone else has at least a few presents now.

Won't be cooking supper today. It is DH's day to cavort with his brothers and they treat themselves to a pretty good breakfast and lunch. I have broccoli cheese soup and sandwich makings in the fridge so if he is hungry tonight there is that . I think they will eat one meal at a Cracker Barrel so I don't expect him to be too hungry.

Hope Jan is doing well and enjoying her visit.

Lynne, How's the knee doing? Are you having therapy?

I'm going for a few groceries now so have a great day.  Pat

I'm back from my running. The store was not bad in fact I walked right up to a checkstand with no waiting. I got most everything on my list and then some, but I have alrady remembered a couple items I forgot, or fresh veggies that I will buy probably Wednesday, or something like potatoes which I thought I had plenty-and when I looked there is only about 3 in the bag. So I have started another grocery list.

We are thinking of you Jan!

Sounds like me Tammy~ I went to city this morning and did shopping at Sams, Penneys and Bass pro. Last night went to store in town and forgot things to make ham balls. So stopped and picked that up. Never no end to groceries is there??? I did find a new Daniel Steele book too. So was glad of that.Penneys said they were open at 7 and weren't busy. It was so foggy here thats why. They were busy when I got there. Took back some curtains and found new jeans and top. They are dressy so needed them.

Going out to make ham balls for supper and few scalloped potaoes for the hubby. That will be supper with cooked mini carrots.

    Have a good day!

Dh and I just got back from dinner. It was my first time out of the house in ten days. I feel so much better - not like such an invalid confined to the house. My PT comes to my house 3 days per week, and I continue the exercises on my own 3 times a day. Mentally, I really needed this outing.

Sorry Judy something took out our electric for over an hour! Our High school is at state with their football team and its on t.v. we are winning. 35-15 right now and about over. So we had to call in to have it restored.

The book is Southern Lights. I do like her books. Have only been disappointed with one of hers.
