    Applesauce

Does anyone have a recipe for homemade cinnamon applesauce? Can I use McIntosh apples for this?

    RE: Applesauce

I like to make applesauce in my crockpot. I use 3 lbs. of apples, about 10-12 medium. Peel, core and chunk up--no need to make small slices. Put these into the crockpot. Add about 1/2 cup sugar, a teaspoon of cinnamon and I use fresh nttmeg--just a little, maybe 1/8 tsp. Then about 1/2 cup water. If you like sweet applesauce, add a bit more sugar. I like it with a little tartness. Stir together and cook all day in the crockpot. Macintosh break down and you will have a smooth sauce, so 6 hours may be enough. I like to add Jonathan as well to give it some chunkiness, since Jonathon don't break down so much. You may have to strain some of the liquid off before serving.

I love homemade apple sauce! Another fun thing you can try...is to add a handfull of cinnamon candies...the small hot ones...adds a pretty color and a different type cinnamon taste...

I made applesauce with Macintosh apples already. It was delicious. I just washed and cored the apples and put them in a saucepan with a little fresh cider.Cook until very tender, then pick out the big pieces of apple peel (they give the applesauce a nice color) and mash with a potato masher as smooth as you would like it to be.Doesn't take long. Maybe 15 or 20 minutes. You can add a little sugar and/or cinnamon if you like. My husband only eats MacIntosh apples, so that is what I use.
