    Is Barbara Walter's Jewish?

    Just curious....

She was so adimant (sp?) yesterday about NEVER going to see another Mel Gibson movie.

I also thought on another show she mentioned something about being Jewish but not sure.

    Anyone know?

I have been a btch all my life. I am good at it.
It takes very little effort on my part, and I am used to it. Applying the same reasoning to you, I cannot understand your offense at being called stupid.

Thanks, and sorry if that was a dumb question! Katie Couric? I had no idea!

Her choice. The movies she goes to see makes no difference to me. She's got an opinion just like every living breathing human being. I don't like the way they use that show for personal plugs. I hadn't planned on watching it any time soon but for sure won't even flip thru near it.

Well, Barbara is not like that, but has become sort of outspoken since having to fill in for Star every day. I think his remarks really offended her. Like you said, it is her right, her opinion.

Rebecca you must be walking around in my head because I was wondering the same thing. She said she usually doesn't make statements like this--that she'd never see another one of his movies--so I think he said something about Jewish people that was offensive to her.

Lemonfan, it's been all over the news. He went on an anti-Semitic rant the other night when he was stopped for speeding and DUI. He has greatly offended more than just her.

It's funny, but as a Catholic I am regularly offended whenever I watch movies or TV shows--Catholics are usually depicted as wild-eyed, out of touch with reality, guilt-ridden, self-loathing misfits.

I well recall a line on the critically acclaimed "Sex in the City" in which Miranda says to Carrie about a guy she is dating (and discovers, to her dismay that he is Catholic)--"Aren't they [Catholics] supposed to wear signs so people know who they are??"

Could you imagine saying something like that about any other religion and getting away with it??

Sex In the City---ahhh one of my all time favorites.

We know Swainie that was said for a reason, don't we? Maybe to be prove a point thru sarcasm.

The men and women who serve in our battlefields may be Democrats and Republicans and Independents, but they have fought together and bled together and some died together under the same proud flag.

They have not served a Red America or a Blue America they have served the United States of America.

It wasn't funny Renee--even if the point was supposed to be sarcastic. Could you imagine saying something like that about a born-again Christian or a Jew??

The show probably would have been yanked off the air.

How sure can we be that Sarah Jessica or the writer that decided to put this in, isn't Catholic & hadn't at some point heard the comment made or had it made to them??

If a character in a movie or show says something bigoted, it may lower my opinion of the character, and I'll probably assume the bit of dialog was included intending it to have that effect. (Of course, if the "good guys" in a story regularly make offensive comments, that may lower my opinion of the writers and producers.)

Mel wasn't playing a role. He was being himself, so the character which is diminished in my eyes is his.
