    Halloween?

I teach Pre-K in public school. I am not sure how to approach Halloween. Would you be offended if your kids teacher talked about "trick or treat", costumes, candy, etc. Also, would you have a problem with a class party;, kids wear costumes and parade through school, treats at end. Please let me know, I have to make plans for the month.

I have no problem with Halloween. As a matter of fact, it is my favorite holiday, right after Christmas & Easter. We had a blast hwen I was a kid at Halloween! Halloween is what you make it! It is a fun time to dress up & pass out candy to kids(for me!)

    RE: Halloween?

I would not have a problem with it. In fact, I would have a problem if the school did not allow celebrating Halloween. To me it is a traditional, fun time for all of us, but especially children. I know some school districts restrict celebrating Halloween, but I think this is wrong. I can remember how much I looked forward to it as a child. I made my DD's Halloween costumes each year, her first one, at 18 months was a mouse. In kindergarden, she was a girl devil, red leotard, red tights, black cape, black skirt, forked tail, horns, and pitch fork. She is 22 now, a senior in college. Even in high school they wore costumes on Halloween, and she still dresses up. This year she is going to be a fairy.
I really think you should celebrate with your students. It is good to have traditions continued.

    RE: Halloween?

Here, they aren't allowed to wear costumes to school at all and they have a "Fall Fun" party instead of a Halloween party. All treats can have a fall theme, like pumpkin shaped cookies, but they can't be decorated with a jack o'lantern face or anything like that.

We always have a fun Halloween at home...we make mummy dogs (hot dogs wrapped in breadsticks then baked), chili, some sort of orange colored drink, pumpkin and cat shaped cookies...things like that. Our youngest DD gets to go trick or treating (the other two are too old) and we watch scary movies.

    RE: Halloween?

Here kids can wear costumes, but no masks or makeup at school...then they have a parade thru the school and individual room parties.

You are only a kid once...let them enjoy it...
Our neighbors kids age 5 and7 1/2 have to be in bed by 7 all year long...wouldn't even let them enjoy the fire works...have to stick by the rules

We had a Tylenol tragedy 3 blocks down our street in the 1980's...(person was never caught) trick or treating around here was touchy for awhile, but was not stopped...I gave out pencils and the kids loved them...It has gotten better now...but they never stopped the Holloween parties/dress up at school...let the kids have fun

You need to ask the principal of your school what the policy is for your location.

    RE: Halloween?

My GD is in preschool right now...they celebrate Holloween and let the kids dress up...they get so excited...they have a little party and the parents and grandparents can come for the little parade and to take pictures about 30 minutes after school starts...we just stuck around with the DG when he was in preschool..

We took our pictures and left...they are sooooo cute...

    Parent / helpers stayed on...
The neighbor across the street won't let her youngest enjoy holloween, born again...until 2nd grade where he rebelled...was shocked to see him out in a costume last year....he was allowed to give out their treats at their house, but not allowed to go from house to house...in first grade his dad took him to about 3 houses dressed in regular clothes...in 2nd grade he felt different I guess and they let him have fun like a kid...

treehuggin said what I was going to say, ask your principal. I know some schools don't allow "Halloween" parties at all because some people consider it devil worship. So some schools now call them Fall parties, but no costumes.

    Zakons & I think alike.....
You should celebrate Halloween with your students. When DGD was in elementary school they had a Halloween Parade(up to 4th grade); inside if it rained; outside if not. 6th grade Band played while students & teachers paraded. ALL ARE INVITED TO WATCH....SO CUTE TO SEE ALL THE COSTUMES! DGD's 3rd grade teacher was an M&M...really cute! They also have Halloween Bibgo Nite the Fri. before. All invited also/can dress up. Prises awarded/snacks to buy & the FUN bingo games! (It's 1 of the school fundraisers)
    Have fun with Halloween!!!!

I am surprised your school district isn't giving you LOTS of "this is what we do; this is what we don't do" guidance. Maybe it's too early? Ask your principal.

    RE: Halloween?

Treehuggin is correct - check with your principal or team leader to see what the policies or traditions of the school are! No need to make plans and then need to re do them!

    RE: Halloween?

Halloween is fun and kids just love it! Too bad that it has to be made into something evil. Check with your school to find our what their policy is.

    RE: Halloween?

I have a 2 year old and I would not let my daughter participate in any halloween activity. I think dressing up kids in costumes like the devil or monsters is associated with evil..just my opinion
