    Stovetop Scalloped Potatoes - HELP!

HI there! I am looking for a recipe or any advice on how to make stovetop scalloped potatoes.

My father's mother use to make this dish for him and he is quite fond of it. My mother (now deceased) also made a similar dish and I would like to surprise my dad with this favorite of his!

All I know is it consists of slices of potato, milk or cream? and? cooked in a double boiler on the stovetop.

PLEASE HELP so I can make this dish for my dad. He is "old school" and says the oven method just isn't the same.

Thank you very much for all your help!

I don't know if you ever found a recipe or not. Did you try posting over in recipes or kitchen chat? Lots more traffic over there. Hope you find (or found) what you are looking for!

I have one in my Test Kitchen cookbook that's done primarily on the stovetop. The potatoes and sauce are cooked in a dutch oven on the stove until the potatoes are tender and then put in a dish and baked at the end. They're only baked 10 - 15 minutes. Basically it's brown your onions in butter, when they're done to your liking add your seasoning and cook until fragrant. (this recipe doesn't call for thickener, but I might add something) Then add your milk (they use heavy cream & chicken stock), and sliced potatoes & simmer till done. If you want the entire recipe let me know & I can scan the page & email it to you. The actual recipe has garlic & thyme and bay leaves, which I'm not sure I'd personally use, but I'm happy to share.

    Sue (Sttetzel):

I would love the full recipe. I have yet to try all the suggestions as I am still making pumpkin everything with the Halloween Jack 'o Lanterns!

Thanks for everyone's input - so appreciated! If I can try all the suggestions and perhaps TWEAK the ideas with dad's help...maybe we can take dad back to "his day".
