Good Morning everyone! How do you like this new forum? I can tell you, it is going to be a big change for me. How in the world are we suppose to read the old post and reply to them? I quess jot down notes.

I honesty at this point, do not care to much for it.  Been still working at getting my living room, set up for Christmas. Just can't seem to get it together.

Well, I am going to go to coffee with some friends and hoping when I get back, figure out this new forum. Is you system working as slow as mine?

    Hi all,

I'm not new to the Recipe board, but this is the first time I've signed up for a group.  I've been non-insulin dependent diabetic for a few years now.  Try to watch what I eat, but it's tough.  But at our most recent physicals, I was told I need to get serious about this cuz I'm maxed out on oral meds and the next step would be insulin.  Not only that, but my DH was diagnosed with high-blood sugar for the first time.   I don't know why I feel responsible for what he puts in his mouth, but I do.  Probably because I do the shopping and cooking!   We also have a teenage daughter in the house.  She swings back and forth between "Don't buy this stuff, Mom", and "Why don't we have anything good to eat in the house?"!  That's her with me in the avatar.

Hmmm. . . your question about Metformin.  Maybe that's why I have no passion for cooking these days. . . .nothing sounds good anymore.  The problem with that is that we end up eating junk!   Definitely need some help in the meal-planing area!

Look forward to chatting with all of you!

Re: Monday's DC Conversation, December 10

Ok now this is deffinately different.  This will take some getting used to.

Well, the tree is up and the lights are on it.  DD#2 will be home the 14th and wants to decorate it.  She is a freshman in college so I think she is a little home sick.

I've got cookies and fudge to make.  My YLI group is going to sell them after Mass this Sunday.

This way I keep little bits for the holidays and I don't have to worry about waste. LOL  My DH ia diabetic and a cookie and candy muncher.  I'm still learning how to use Splenda so he can still munch-just not as much as he used to.

Okay, let's see if I have done the "REPLY" correctly.

Hauke – Its so nice to finally put a face to your name!  I've visited a number of BBs that have this same format.  So I think I will be okay with hit.

Caty – Good to see you.  I think a lot of boards are using this format now.

Mary – Good afternoon.  I'm sure in no time, we'll all be very comfortable with the new format.  I love your mother's hair.  It is so pretty!

Michele – BRRRRR.  Below zero before winter is officially here is just so wrong!  I've noticed most teens have a problem wearing a coat.  I don't get it.  Good luck finding a place for your tree.

Rebecca – I think it will take a little while to get used to the new format.

Nancy – I'm still trying to learn the new board, but I'm hoping it won't be too hard.

Sandy – It sounds like you had a nice weekend, except for the ice.  I'm glad you got home safely.

Debbie_Can – It's good to see you again!

Carol – Be careful on the ice.  I hope you don't have any problems.

Annette – It really is different from what we are used to.

Raejean – Nice to meet you.  I hope to see you often.

Karen – You must be so excited to have your DD heading home soon.  Enjoy your time with her.

Okay, I guess the font wasn't the same.  Interesting.

I read (used to, anyway) the Diabetic Connection on the old board; DH is diabetic and we can use all the help we can get!!Big Smile

I'm trying to navigate my way around this new board, I hope I've done this correctly.

I rarely post as I don't have that much to contribute, being new to the world of diabeties, but I do read this thread and hope to be able to continue to do so -- I hope I can even FIND it again LOL!

Re: Monday's DC Conversation, December 10

Morning.  Well actually its the afternoon already. LOL

It's great to see that everyone is wandering into the new BB.  It is so slow I can't imagine how those on dial up are feeling - but I did read on another section where the BB admin guy love2cook posted that this will speed up soon.  It's slow because they are still working on it.  I just saw that there are 409 of us online at I type this, so I can imagine them trying to work with over 400 of us poking our heads over their shoulders - yup - that would slow me down too.  LOL

Mary - as to getting the millions of emails, you can also click on the Email Enabled button that's at the top of the daily chat start and it should turn it on and off - as per BB admin guy love2cook.  Oh by the way, I just sent you an email.

Annette - you commented on being able to read the posts and reply at the same time - I just tested this and it seems to be working.  When you first get to the DC find the REPLY button on my first post, hold you mouse over it and click your right mouse (not the left like you usually do) -  then select the option to open in a new tab (if you have the latest version of IE or Firefox) or select open in a new window.   This will then open a new browser window where you type your reply and you can switch back and forth from the Daily Chat to your reply.  That will make it much easier to respond to folks as you read the post.  I sometimes start reading and then find I have to go back and start again when I'm responding, so I'm getting in the habit of hitting the REPLY  into a new browser or tab as soon as I enter the room.

BahstonFrn_IA - welcome to the DC.  We're here every day and start a new conversation every morning.  Hope you come back often to share your thoughts and ask your questions.

Debbie - it's so good to see you again.  You survived all those Ontario winter storms I saw on news?

MommaDuck - Come on over.  We'd love to get to know you better.  I love your user name.  Cute!  As for having much to contribute, if you've been reading a while, you'll know we're not always talking about diabetes.  Much of the time, we're just chatting about life - and you are experiencing that and we'd love to hear about yours.

Caty, I don't think I welcomed you to the DC.  I had a really busy weekend and then with the BB down yesterday, I didn't have much of a chance to chat.  Welcome.  And stop by anytime!

Michelle, it's so wonderful to see you often.  I love your new laptop!  well, ok, NSDD's laptop!  You add so much to our chats and your coffee always smells so good!

Rebecca, I'm sure you'll figure it out soon.  If not, you have the advantage of having a teen in the house so ask Paige, she'll probably know the answer for sure.  LOL

Nancy, did you figure out the minimizing?  If not, try my trick of opening the reply in a new window and then switch back and forth.

Sandy, I am so glad you're home safe!  Ice is one of my biggest fears.  And that ice storm yesterday was vicious.  It was even on our Alberta news, so you know it was bad.  Stay home where it's warm and dry.

Carol, was the funeral today?  or were you helping?  Be careful on those roads OK?  Have fun wrapping those gifts.  Now that DB's open house is over, I can get to finished my shopping and then start my wrapping.

Well, I’m being real chatty – as I want to test if we still have a limit of words.  I know it used to be 2000 characters and spaces so we’ll see if that still applies.  LOL

I should tell you I feel very rested at the moment.  I slept til about 10 yesterday, got up, made some lunch/brunch, which wasn’t hard since we had leftovers.  By 1 I told Rebecca I wanted a nap so I lay down and woke up at 5:30.  I watched the Oprah movie and a Christmas movie then discovered the BB was up so played here for a bit and then went to bed.  A very restful day I’d say!  And then I slept til 10 this morning.  So I think I must be caught up for a bit.  At least I hope so.

We’re heading over to DB’s to finish cleaning up from the Open House and such.  Maybe then I’ll even do some shopping.  Our sun is shining and it looks like a beautiful day. That’s it from me for now.I’ll be back later.

Re: Monday's DC Conversation, December 10

    Hello everyone!

If you are having problems getting to the board just put a shortcut on your desktop.

Something I do on other boards to make replying easier is I narrow the board enough to make room for an e-mail reply window which I make really skinny. That way I can scroll up and down through posts and type my reply in the e-mail window. When I'm done I just cut and paste it over to the reply.

I know it's a big change but I think you will like it once you get used to it. It just takes some getting used to at first.

Carol I'm not sure about the Metformin affecting appetite. What I've noticed is I am unbelieveably cold..... like never before. I don't know if it's the meds doing it or the diet between the low calories, low carbs, low fat, sugar free, etc. but I'm freezing all the time.
I'm sorry about the death of your BIL.

Joyce this is the basic format used on boards these days. They all vary to some degree but the basics are the same.

Nancy move your curser over to the right side of the board. When you find arrows that point right and left, left click and hold your mouse button down. You can push the board over and make it narrower. I leave mine that way so I have room for reply windows, IMs, etc. It works great.

Hi Raejean, welcome! I think you are the only one on here who's been on these boards longer than I have. LOL

Mary nice job on your picture. Smile

I lvoe the preview feature and the edit feature is even better - I've used it several times already!  LOL

Well I better get busy or I'll be on the BB all day.  LOL

Re: Monday's DC Conversation, December 10

I had to take a break from doing the Christmas cards, so  here I am.  We talked to DD##2 last nite, and now she has the stomach flu ~~ guess it's going around.  Just hope we all get this behind us before the Holidays!  I need to call (or email) DD#3, as she was on the verge of breaking out with hives when we had to leave last nite.  She had already taken 2 Benedryl, and thought things were under control.  She is such a 'worry' ~~ healthwise, that is!

Spoke to DD#1 this am, and they had been in Iowa for a 'boating' Christmas party over the weekend.  She said they had a wonderful time, but were very happy they stayed in a motel overnite.  Yesterday morning the interstate was O.K., but everywhere else was ice.  As we were, they were very happy to get  home.

Our Christmas is really going to be different this year, and no definite plans have been made yet!  Because my eldest niece will have to work Christmas Eve day (and her mother is the one who just had surgery), we won't be together with them this year.  We usually go to DD#1 for Christmas morning, and that may or may not still be 'on' ~~ it remains to be seen.  I don't really mind change ~~ I just don't like things left to the last minute!  Guess I'm too organized for that, and like to know what is happening, and when.  I have offered to have 'something' here, but no 'takers' yet.  To add to the mix, both DD#2 and DD#3 have to leave Christmas Day to go home, because they have to work the next day!  Ugh, I know this will all work out, but just not soon enough to suit me.

Well, it's time to get back to the cards ~~ they will be in the mail today!!!

    'til later, SandySmile

I'm curious about the number of posts listed to the users. It shows I have 306 posts (307 once I hit "post" and I'm wondering if those are strictly for this group since it's not in keeping with my other profile posting numbers.Huh?

MommaDuck - Welcome. I hope you can join us often.

Hauke - Dial up is VERY slow.  I sure hope it does speed up, but since they are still working on it, I'm sure it will be faster.  I'm glad you are rested up.  You have been very busy.  I hope the clean-up went well today.

Caty - I'm still trying to get used to things.  Give me a couple more days.  Smile

Sandy - I hope both your DDs are feeling better soon.  I'm like you, I like to know things in advance.  I don't like last-minutes changes.

Hi Everyone and Welcome to ALL the NewComers Stopping by today!!!

Erica, thank you enhancing the picture for me. In the picture is Ron, me standing behind Cody and Mom.  It is nice to see the pictures of everyone.

I take Metforim and I really think it helps me keep my weight down a little. I have had no problems with it.  I only take a half a pill in the morning and the other half at supper.

Linda send me an email and explained getting around the board better. I can post it if any of you would like to read it.  I am sure in a few days we will all be old hands at this and I think the board does have some nice features. It was easy to upload the picture....I just needed Erica to enhance it...LOL I know I am going to have to make notes to keep up with everyone.

I put the Christmas tree up today and worked more on the cards.  I wanted to ask about postage to send a card to Krisspy. I put two stamps on the Canadian ones, but am never sure what to put on Krisspy's.

My SIL works for Allegheny Power, which is our local electric company.  He got called to go to Oklahoma today to help restore power. So if any of you from the midwest, etc. see an Allegheny Power truck, it might be my son inlaw!!! He had to pack for 2 weeks!! DD is all worried that he won't be home for Christmas!!

I hope all is well with all of you!! I am sure together we will figure out this new board!!

    Hugs,

    Mary
