Hi Spanish Teacher ~ Your "puzzle lady" books sound interesting.  Can you give me a title or the author?  I'd like to look them up.

Hi Lorraine!  I love these books.  The author is Parnell Hall.  The Puzzle Lady books are

A Clue for the Puzzle Lady

    Last Puzzle and Testament

    Puzzled to Death

A Puzzle in a Pear Tree

And A Puzzle to Die On

With This Puzzle, I Thee Wed

You Have the Right to REmain Puzzled

and coming this April....The Sudoku Puzzle Murders

I think I put those in order.  It's best to read them in order, IMHO.  A woman lives with her older aunt.  She writes crossword puzzles for a living and calls them The Puzzle Lady.  People fall in love with the puzzles and want to see what the "Puzzle Lady" looks like.  She ends up using her aunt as the "Puzzle Lady" .  Now, dear auntie is not the sweet little old lady next door.  She is a drinking, smoking, cussing lady and she's a hoot.  So they have to keep this secret.  Well, people start dying with notes made out in puzzle form and the police come running to her to solve the puzzle.  Dear old auntie hates puzzles and doesn't know how to solve them.  So, it's funny how she gets around solving them.  Really funny!

Micki, those sound fun.  Will check to see if they have them at our library.  Thanks for a new series to explore!

    Hi Everyone---

I'm almost finished reading The Quilter's Apprentice. ( Jennifer Chiaverin). I'm enjoying this series. I have 3 books on my list to read before getting more at the library. Imade a resolution to myself that I read more, and exercise more, and watched tv 2 or 3 times a week. ( I paid myself a $ 1 a pound if I Iose weight and keep it for myself, so I can buy something that I want; and  put a $ 1. in a jar if I gained a pound, and use it for fines at the library, or my daughter's lunch & school things, and she's in high school. I treat the kids to ice cream, lunch out, or to a movie for good behavior & grades.  I even bought temptation, " Chocolate" so I won't eat it!

Here are the books on my list:

    1. Candy Cane Murder ( Joanne Fluke).

    2. The Wednesday Letters ( Jason F. Wright).

    3. Murder Most Frosty ( Cleo Coyle)

Margaret, I am looking forward to reading The Whistling Season but I am trying to finish up the latest Sue Grafton book since it was on reserve. I am about half way through it. Hopefully, I can finish it in the next couple of days.     MarineMom  (Joan)

Just going to start Pillars of the Earth & then Snowflake & the Secret Fan.

I'd love to know how Almost Moon is...I enjoyed The Lovely Bones.

I just finished The Quilter's Apprentice. It's a very good book. It's a Granny B. book. I want to read more in the series.

The library just called.  I have The Burnt House ( Faye Kellerman) waiting for me along with Amazing Grace. ( Danielle Steel). I'm going to the library tomorrow or Fri. to pick up my holds, get another quilt book, ( Jennifer Chiaverini, & pick up some books for my kids.

The Book & More is open, the library's book store and I want to check that out, before everyone buys the good books. The book store was closed for a while due to a flood. Everyone was depending on the book sales, and they never have a good selection in kid books. My kids love to read, especially Nicole, Morgan, & Willy. Nicole reads anything & everything that interests her. The other two are big fans of Garfield, Goose Bumps, Arthur, & those underwear books. Ashley isn't much of a reader, but she does read, when she has too for school. It's only for school--- not for enjoyment.

Renee, I am about 1/3 of the way through and mostly up to now is setting the stage for the rest of the novel. It is really good so far and I can tell it's going to get better. The author has a knack for descriptions. I just love the way she describes anything - people, rooms, etc. I can always visualize perfectly what she is describing. I have a feeling once you start it you won't be able to put it down.      MarineMom

I started The DaVinci Code, am I really the last person on earth to read it!!!! Started it the other day and can't put it down.  Brown reminds me a lot of DeMille, same writing style -- quick, short, captivating chapters.  Hope to finish by weekend.

'Last Light' by Terr Blackstock.  It is a story about what happens when all we are used to quits working --- anything electrical, watches, water, gas, cars.  It is interesting.

What is funny, is that a couple of weeks ago, I woke up and the cable was out --- I own no radio --- and I was clueless as to what was going on in the world.  Made me wonder how we as a town or nation, would react if everything we relied on no longer worked as we were used to.

Barb NY - Good to hear from you again.  I guess you would be the last person I know to be reading the DaVinci Code.  Glad you like it.

Welcome to the new people on the this thread.  Hope you will stay with us.  I am almost 3/4 of the way through THE BURNT HOUSE.  THE CHOICE is waiting for me to pick up at the library.

Mary Kay - The third great grandson was born this morning.  I went up to the hospital this afternoon  to see him.  Got to hold him for a long time.  He weighed 7 lb 3 oz.  Seemed so tiny to me after being around his two brothers, Ryan three this friday and Aaron l8 months.

Congratulations Margaret! Great Grandchildren!  How wonderful.  I enjoy my GC so much.  I finally finished C is for Corpse,  I really liked it as I have liked A and B.  Barb I have not read the DaVinci Code so you are not the last.  So many on my list I make from here that it will be years before I get them all read and I just keep adding more.

Oops! In my last post I had the wrong title for the latest Miss Julia book by Ann B. Ross -- it is MISS JULIA STRIKES BACK  and it is not going to make it to this weekend. I took it to the gym with me this morning and got on the treadmill with it and just read and laughed. I'm about halfway through it!

Bumping us up  so we don't get lost.  Looks like we may be having a mixed bag of weather this afternoon and night.  I hope it stays all snow and none of that ice business.

Since I have Alice Sebold's  new book I decided to read the one that she wrote before.  The LOVELY BONES.  Several people on the board said how much they liked it.

Good morning!   Made it about halfway through BOOK OF THE DEAD (Cornwell), not bad so far.   Much better than the last, which I can barely remember.    Did she always write about Scarpetta in 3rd person?  I thought they were written from Kay's POV.    Will check an earlier book when I get a minute.

Hope everyone has a good day.
