    WHAT ARE YOU READING? 1/20

Good Morning all you readers out there.  A big welcome to all the new people who have come to visit us here.  Hope you will be with us and let us know what you like to read.  You will get a lot of good recommendations here.

I said last week that I had Alice Sebold's new book THE ALMOST MOON.  From what someone said on this thread that they liked her book called THE LOVELY BONES.  I took the time to read it first and am very glad.  It was a wonderful book.  Hope this new one is as good.  I also have THE CHOICE by Nicholas Sparks.  Waiting for me at the library is WATER FOR ELEPHANTS.

Thanks for all the congrats on my new great grandson.

It is very very cold here in W PA this morning.  I am showing 1º on my thermometer at the moment.  Tomorrow is supposed to be about the same.  Stay warm wherever you are.

Hope everyone has a great week.

Margaret, You think it is cold in PA, try the prairies of MN.  Temp is currently -15º with a wind chill of -25!

I finished HIGH NOON by Nora Roberts and liked  it very much.  I read to about page 100 of EAT, PRAY, LOVE and put it down.  Perhaps later; perhaps much, much later.  I also finished RUNAWAY QUILT by Jennifer Chiaverini and have ordered the next one in the series.  On my bookshelf to read is the Jasmine Cresswell trilogy of MISSING, PAYBACK, and SUSPECT and Heather Graham's THE LAST NOEL.  DH will be on an ice fishing trip to Lake of the Woods on the Canadian border this week, so I should have lots of time to curl up by the fireplace and read.

I just finished the second book, NIGHT LIGHT by Terri Blackstock, in the Restoration Series.  very good, and lots of food for thought.

I am now reading LUCKY'S LADY by Tami Hoag.   Don't know where I got it from, as I have never read anything by her.  Found it yesterday, as I attempted to clean out a corner in the computer room.

It is cold down this way --- woke up to 32 degrees.  By Tuesday we will be in the balmy 70's.  I live in south La. 30 miles from the Gulf.

Good morning!  Chilly here in New England too, we'll be staying in, watching the Pats game and having a picnic dinner    :)     I'm about halfway through FRILL KILL (Childs), it's in the scrapbooking series, and it's a quick read.

Waving to all, have a wonderful Sunday.

it was pretty frigid here last night.  It was supposed to be in low teens here in Arkansas.  I read all of one book and half of another this week.  Since it was semester test week, I had a little extra time.

First, I read THREE WEEKS WITH MY BROTHER by Nicolas and Micah Sparks.  This was the first time I ever read Nicholas Sparks and it was wonderful.  The 2 brothers spend 3 weeks traveling the world, going to places I've always dreamed of going.  It was amazing.  Weaved in with current travels, the 2 would remember things from their childhood and I highly recommend it to everyone.

Then I started STEVE AND ME by Terri Irwin, the widow of Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter.  It is a great book as well.  I'm halfway through it.  I am really enjoying it.  If you are an animal lover, this book is for you.

Micki, thank you for the Irwin recommendation, I just added it to my library list.   I loved Steve, he had such a zest for life, and he was one of the few celebrities that I actually cried over when he passed away.    Can't wait to read it!

I'm about half way through Carry the Wind by Terry C. Johnston.  It's a story about mountain men in the 1800's.

Has anyone read Jonathan Kellerman's series with the character Alex Delaware?  I know the first one is When the Bough Breaks.  I have a few more of this series, but what I was wondering is if they should be read in order.

c3clark. - It would be better if you read them in order as there is always things about his life and family that carries on through the next book.  Hope you enjoy them as much as I did.

Re: WHAT ARE YOU READING? 1/20

I am finally reading THE MEMORY KEEPERS DAUGHTER by Kim Edwards.  It is a good book as so many of you already know.

I have only read one of James Pattersons books  CROSS I know that was probably not a good place to start on his books. However I did find it good although pretty gruesome at times.  I have 1st TO DIE to read now.  I think that is the first one  in a series if I'm not mistaken.  I love to read but just have never gotten into one particular author.  But I think I could get hooked on Patterson.

I also have in line to read BLOOD ORANGE by Drusilla Campbell and SHOOT THE MOON by Billie Letts.  Have any of you read either of these?

It's very cold here in western Missouri but it is sunny which makes it a little easier to take.  We still have a blanket of snow from last week.  My husband and two daughters and a son had our granddaughter Reagan 3 yrs old out for just a little bit sledding. I just stayed on the porch and took pictures. Ha!

Hope all of you have a good week.  I really look forward to all of your posts.

Thanks so much, Oscaranna.  I've read a lot of good things about this series, but never knew about reading them out of order.

Good Afternoon, Everyone. Here in East Tennessee, it is cold. It was 15 degrees when we went to the 8:30 church service. For us, that is really cold. It hasn't warmed up very much either. I just finished another of Dr. Keith Ablow's books, THE ARCHITECT. This one was good but not as good as his other books. It's about a brilliant architect who crosses over to insanity. He wants everything perfect, so he sets out to destroy anyone who keeps a family from being in harmony. He does it by opening up their bodies to expose different areas to show how our bodies are created perfectly. He does all this in the name of God. It sounds gory, but it really isn't. It's just about a man who is pulled over the edge by his need to make everything perfect. Right now, I'm reading JUST ONE LOOK by Harlan Coben. I think I might have read it a long time ago and have forgotten it. I have vague remembrances. It's very good as are all of his books. A young wife picks up some pictures at a photo printing shop and finds a strange picture in her package. It shows her husband with a group of people before they were married. Her husband says he doesn't know anything about it, but he disappears. I'm not far enough along to know what's really going on. It's good reading for a cold, cold day when you don't want to go out. Have a good week everyone, and please stay warm. Betty

Just stopping in to bump us up before we get lost.  I am reading THE ALMOST MOON. by Alice Sebold.  Glad I read THE LOVELY BONES first.  This book to say the least is depressing.  I will finish it because I try to finish what I start.

Cold again here in WPA this morning.  It is supposed to moderate some later.

Good morning Margaret and everyone, I finished The Whistling Season and I must say I really enjoyed this book. I love the way the author writes. The ending was as I hoped it would be. This is the book our book club chose for February and it is a good one. Since the library is closed today, I am reading a book of short stories a friend loaned to me last week at our book club meeting. It is "Sue Ellen Learns to Dance and other stories" by Judy Alter. Judy is a local author and writes about women in the American west. I have read the first 3 short stories and they are good. Not sure what I will pick up tomorrow at the library. I may go back and re-read some of these threads to get some ideas.Margaret, is The Almost Moon a sequel to The Lovely Bones? I read The Lovely Bones a while back. It is a dreary day here in the 40's and rainy but to get to the 20's tonight and the rest of the week with possible snow/sleet around Thursday. Hope everyone has a good week.    MarineMom (Joan)

Brrrrrr, 6 degrees this morning. I hope everyone is safe and warm this morning.

I finished T IS FOR TRESPASS by Sue Grafton last night.  I was not disappointed in this latest edition of the alphabet books.

I have WATER FOR ELEPHANTS at everyone’s recommendations.  I wasn’t sure about it but everyone has enjoyed it so far.   I will let you know if I enjoy it. Jan
