    ISO Tilapia Recipes

Hello everyone.  I'm planning on making tilapia for dinner tomorrow.  I love to eat fish, but I've always been kinda scared to make it.  I would like to start making fish more often, so if anyone has any tried and true recipes, I surely would appreciate it.  Thank you so much!

    Re: ISO Tilapia Recipes

I have recently started buying Tilapia. (My family and I love it!)

FIRST: In a large dish I have the fish already thawed, and I sprinkled

both sides of the fish with: Black Pepper, Cajun Seasoning,

and Garlic Powder. Then I squeeze a fresh Lemon over the fish

before cooking. Pan fry in an Electric Skillet, heated up to about 350 degrees.

Spray the skillet with Pam cooking spray or you can use Olive Oil.

Cook about 5 min. each side, or until fish is no longer pink, but is white and flakey.

    Very Tastey!

    Here's another one.

    TALAPIA WITH ZUCCHINI

    1/2 cup lemon juice

    2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tsop each dried tarragon, basil, & thyme

    4 talapia filets

2 small zucchini , finely sliced lengthwise

    1 T butter

    S&P

Combine lemon juice, garlic, and herbs.   Add fish and marinate in fridge at least 15 minutes.  Spary a 12X12 piece of foil with Pam or something.  Place 2 filets on foil, top with half the zucchini.  Repeat layers.  Sprinkle bits of butter over fish and drizzle with 1/4 cup of marinade.  Sprinkle with S&P.  Bring sides of foil up and over fish and seal.  Place on a baking sheet and bake at 400º for 20 minutes.  Lynn in Cabot

    Beer Batter For Fish

Beat 1 egg with a whisk
    add 1 cup beer
    1 tsp salt
    1 tsp sugar
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1 scant cup flour

    Batter is quite runny.
It is right consistency when batter clings to spoon.

Dip pieces and fry in a little oil in pan.

Been a family favorite for years...The batter puffs up when fried...Wonderful and easy!

Even the grandkids love this on any fish....Easy and yummy!

    Re: ISO Tilapia Recipes

My family loves tilapia also.  I make it two ways.

One, I brown it in a skillet in just a little olive oil, after sprinkling it with lemon pepper.

My family also loves an old fashion fish fry.  But I try to make healthier meals than frying fish, so I buy the blue bag of "Louisianna Fish Fry" and I dredge my tilapia in it as I would for a fish fry.  Then I just put the fish on a cookie sheet sprayed with cooking spray and bake at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes on each side (turning once).

I bake some frozen french fries and my family likes it almost as good as good old fried crappie!

    Re: ISO Tilapia Recipes

I make my talipia one of two ways.

First put the frozen filets in a collander and run cool water over til thawed.

I either brown it in a skillet with a little olive oil and lemon pepper; or

I dredge it in the blue bag of "Louisianna Fish Fry"  that I get at the grocery store (or I put the fish fry in a zip loc bag and shake gently the fish in there to coat), put it on a cookie sheet (sprayed with cooking spray) and bake it at 350 degrees for about 15-20 minutes on each side, turning once, or til crispy.

My husband thinks it tastes a lot like fried crappie, but lots healthier.  I also bake some frozen french fries and my family just loves it.

Also, the Shake and Bake brand of Fish Fry is good.  I got some at Big Lots.

Sorry I sent that in twice.  When I tried to "post" it said there was a problem and when I went back my text was gone so I had to retype it.  But it looks like both of them went.  Oh well...
