    Kind of confused

I know this may seem funny but I just started my adventure in cooking this last week. I have a few questions as to what prepared mustard is and what does divided mean when using in a recipe, ex. olive oil divided? An one more thing if anyone can help what are crushed red pepper flakes and where do I buy them? Do you just buy red peppers and crush a portion? Totally appreciate any help in advance!

    Take care

We all have to start sometime!  No question is silly, so I'll try my blonde best to answer--

Divided refers generally to the fact that there is an amount of an ingredient needed for the recipe (i.e. 1 cup of sugar), but perhaps 1/3 of it is at the beginning and the rest gets added in later in the recipe--thus you divide the 1 cup into 1/3 and 2/3 cups.  I hope this makes sense.

Prepared mustard is powdered mustard and comes in a can where the spices are.

Crushed pepper flakes are also in the spice section--think of the peppers that are on the table when you get pizza or spaghetti out--that is what they are referring to.  It will be in a spice jar.

I hope this helps and that I haven't confused you!  Good luck, and enjoy!

Learn something new every day! I thought prepared mustard was the yellow stuff!

NO question is dumb or silly....except those that are not asked!

You were right susie. Prepared mustard comes in a jar (or squeeze bottle lol) and is in the condiment aisle. Dry mustard is in the spice aisle.

    Prepared Mustard
A product that is made from powdered or coarsely ground mustard that is combined with other ingredients, such as vinegar, turmeric, white wine, and sugar. The term "prepared" refers to the fact that the ground mustard is mixed with other ingredients. There are different types of prepared mustards available, such as Dijon and the standard mustard referred to as ballpark mustard. Prepared mustards are used as a condiment or seasoning and their flavors vary in sharpness, depending on the type of mustard seeds and other ingredients used to produce them.
