Cognac is brandy, which is distilled wine.

Technically, to be called cognac, it must come from an area around the town of Cognac in France, and indeed they make some fine brandies there.  But other brandies can be good too, and might cost significantly less.

The sky is my jewelry box, the clouds are cotton puffs.
The birds and stars are rings and other shining things
Which glisten in my treasure chest.
The lightning is a necklace which a queen would love to wear
And if you think I'm crazy, building castles in the air
Well, tell me something better to have going on up there.

If you don'thave any brandy, substitue a little bit of rum or rum extract or any liqeur  you may have in the house; even a a small shot of wine may do or do without unless you are a gourmet chef and just have to have this dessert  for an important meal.

Myself, I could not see wasting a good Hennesy or Armagnac cognac in something like artificially flavored strawbwrry Jel-O . Just like I would not waste my dark Meyer's Rum in Jel-O unless II use real fruit juice and gel it with unflavored gelatine or another thickener and make my own jel-o from scratch.
