    Good morning beautiful ladies,

This will be a short post this morning, my DS/family are coming in a few minutes to pick me up and going to the states. They are going for school supplies, much cheaper.  I like to go along and we are also going for groceries.

Hope everyone will have a gorgeous day, behave Char while I'm gone. How were the cinnamon buns, I sure would like to try one of your.

Enjoy the last month of summer, hugs to all,

    YF

Good morning all...yes, warm here..another day with highs to 36º predicted. We did get to 37 yesterday at the hottest.
Yes, it is so dry around here, Maria. Fires are popping up all over the place. I am still amazed at how stupid people are with their cigarettes...or not putting out their campfires!

DH is downstairs painting trim in the family room. He wants to get that room back together today.
I want to go to the Farmer's market this morning. I would like to get some corn. Mmmm....

Other than that, will just keep busy around here.

Hope you all enjoy your day!

    Morning,

It was a good start to the day until I answered the phone.  Our farm raised free range chickens will arrive just after lunch today.  I wasn't expecting them until next month some time so now the scramble to find freezer space--not only for ours but BILs too.  Will be a mad dash to clean out the neglected white whale to find room.  I guess I'll be busy with jam making from last year's strawberries that are left, and seeing what else i repurpose.  DH is in a pitching frenzy.

They are now forecasting 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms for this afternoon.  That puts an end to DH's idea of starting to combine. what was cut Thursday.

Off to save my frozen assets.

Hi! Sounds like everyone is off to a busy day.

Eija, i went to a Farmer's Market some years ago in your city. Wonder if it is the same one. The city block was all different venders and it was such a great market. We went at 6 a.m. And there were people everywhere. Loved how so many different things were sold including flowers, etc.

Pat, good luck getting your freezer ready for the chickens. A cleaning frenzy now but so tasty this winter.

Maria, I hope you have a great day shopping and find all sorts of bargains. Would you please pick up some milk for me? :)

Better finish my coffee and get something done here.

Freezer cleaning is  finished, and 16 chickens stashed away.  Friend didn't make it last night and called wanting us to meet her for lunch but that will have to wait until she heads west.  Customers are in town here on business and are planning on a tour as they head homeward.  Why does everything happen all at once?

DH is still going to try and combine but has run into flat battery issues and is having difficulty getting equipment out of the shed.  Fun, fun, fun.

I just had a look at the video clip they did of our farm.  I don't know how to create a link but it is on Utube along with several other farms for Open Farm Day 2012.

I'm going to head out and pick a bouquet of sweet peas for my table.  I love the old fashioned fragrance.

YF – Hope you have a great shopping day in the states. I have to find one day to get some much needed shopping done before school starts here as well. I am fast running out of clothes to wear that aren’t extremely outdated or showing signs of wear. I use to love shopping now with the prices so high I just don’t look forward to it at all. Hate spending so much of my pay cheque just trying to look decent to go to work.

Emc – It will be nice to have the family room back and looking new with paint and all. What colour did you go with?

Pat- You are lucky to have free range chickens. I have been looking for someone that would supply them around here but no luck. Sometimes friends of ours give us one or two and can’t believe the difference in taste when they are raised the way they should be.

Ame – I love the ambience of the farmers market. So many neat things to see and people to chat with.

My house is quiet once again and time to put things back in order. I am just checking out bus routes to see if it is feasible for me to take a few days off and travel by bus to BC. The layover in Edmonton is soooo long not sure if I like that.

Here is a link to an article about your farm, Pat. Is this the one you meant?

well, back at home, man oh man, is it ever HOT!!  It's 32º and dry.  Everything is brown here, got the sprinkler on now but I'm sure the water is just evaporating.  but it may help, we will sprinkle all night long.  What a great week out at the camp.  Dan said that it wouldn't take much to convince him to do it again next year, when the director said that he'll have to start a new project next year.  So even though it was so hot and work went slow Dan so totally enjoyed working with the teenagers.  I know some people think we are crazy, they don't like teens and don't understand teens.  That's okay, I'm not really a toddler sort of person.  I rather like the teenage crazy years.

Cinnamon buns went over well, one guy from Ireland said they tasted like his grandmother's cinnamon buns.  Of course, not knowing her, he could have been insulting me for all I know!! lol.

Now it's time to start thinking about the youth camping trip next weekend.  At this point I have no idea who is coming.  I need a head count by Wed and money so I can shop.  Crazy.  We are crazy people, no wonder YF tells me to behave!  If I keep hanging out with these teenagers, am I going to start acting like one?Surprise

Not that one Angela.  That was from at least two or three years ago.  MB Agritourism came last month and videoed for about 2.5 hours.  It was shortened to about 12 minutes.   I can get to it through an email and after a few mouse clicks it plays showing pollockfarms-Youtube.  Working backwards, I see Manitoba Open Farm Day-YouTube.  This video shows the old combine, the spelt processing, flour mill and some of the leafcutter equipment.  It also shows some of the crops along the lane as they were a month ago.  Things look differently now because the fields have been cut.  After today's showers, it will likely be Monday before we combine.

I really enjoyed watching the video Pat. That is so interesting what you do on the farm.

I really wanted to go on the farm tour this year but they aren't offering it in our area this year.  I will have to be satisfied by watching Pat's video.

Today I picked some raspberries at a friends house and then went to another friend and got some apples.  They are bigger than a crab but not huge.  I find they taste really good but the friend who owns the tree finds them too tart.  They aren't as tart as a granny smith.   I froze four bags for pies and crisp and there is a small bag left to enjoy as is.  I wanted to get some more done in my own yard but that will have to wait.  Tomorrow I will have to clean my house and Monday I will be doing laundry and packing.  We are going away for a bit.

I have another of my migraines today.  I hope it doesn't last 2 or 3 days like usual.  I think I have figured out that it is the Tamoxifen that causes them.  I have 2 more years of that crap but I am seriously thinking of coming off early.

No YF we don't have any pets. Our cat died 3 years ago.  We travel too much to have a pet here but we do cat sit for a friend whenever they go away so we get our cat fix then :)
