Good Morning:
Check out the today is special day. Monday night I did do some good trout for supper. I am going to try some baked flounder next week. I haven't quite figured exactly how to season it yet. Bob says it is suppose to be good.
My computer is going to the NH today. The jack of all trades maintenance man told Bob to bring it to him and he would check it out. I do hope he is a witch doctor cause I have decided the monitor is hexed. He told Bob it may be a messed up driver. I do hope that is all it is cause I am not going to put any more money in it. I feel like it would be just throwing good money after bad. And a ton of wasted time.

Today is National Farm-Raised Catfish Day. Farm-raised catfish has the advantage of being available all the time at a consistent price. Restaurants love that, because wild-caught fish are so unpredictable. It's pretty good, but the trend in recent years has been to allow the catfish to grow bigger and bigger, which for catfish is not an improvement. Also, some fish farms have environmental issues. Wild-caught fish from good sources is better. But rolled in corn meal, fried till golden, splashed with hot sauce. . . it's a treat. Makes a good poor boy sandwich, too.
Waving to Lesia!!

NancyB-Day care for Husbands! Now that is a good one!
Egee-You will never get use to all the quiet now with the company gone. How long before the next batch comes in?
NancyZ-How long before you go back to the trailer? How is IL DD doing?
Mel-Have a safe trip home. Nope no love notes, but I have been packing his lunch since nursing school when we couldn't afford cafeteria food every day. Then when he was at Sacred Heart working in surgery, he didn't have time to grab more than a quick lunch at his desk. After 15 years it got to be a habit.
Hugs and prayers for all!!
Good morning we have a lovely start to the day, I had a busy but nice day yesterday.

Good Morning Everyone,
Zora, keeping my fingers crossed that the fellow can fix it! Are you still getting that rain everyday?
NancyB, I loved that sign!!!! How I wish I were close enough to sample your peaches, I bought some a few weeks ago that were absolutely taste less, I bought just one last week and it was delicious! I'm not a very good "peach-picker-outer" !
Yes, Ann, I used to read Margaret Trumans books as soon as they came out! Most of the books I'm reading now are from the "zero dollar book" site. Some are excellent, some not so good. I "grab" any that look interesting, because I found that some disappear after just a few days and show up on the list you have to pay for. I love the books about the Amish.
Pennybrown, congratulations on the weight loss, bet that "forbidden" fudge tasted so good!
Hope you all have a great day...
Mabel
Good Morning. Zora, I can do catfish day, as long as someone else cleans and cooks them. Will have to find a good place here, to get them. Quiet = was a little quiet after all left. Saturday night was a hoot because of the friend. He had a few brews and got wound up. I did find out the friend was marine, not NCIS but worked closely with them. Next company will be in Saturday afternoon. Long time friends from 'home'. They will stay until the fifth. Only a couple of things planned, the trian trip on Monday and the fireworks show the fourth, rest of the time we'll decide as we go. He mostly wants to just ride the back roads and look. Suits me! Just have to plan a couple of meals. Saturday morning will dance with Oreck and dust with lemon oil. So far, have been keeping the place neat and uncluttered = not like the house of forty-five years.
Mel, know you have enjoyed the vacation but there does come a time enough is enough. Fox News = dh listened to it so much I learned to ignore it most of the time but have only watched it one time since he passed away two years ago!
Hope all in the path of the storm stay safe. Cilla, Zora, you know you are welcomed to head north when storms are headed your way! Anyone else too.
Yesterday, had to do something with the leftovers. Cooked green beans and new potatoes, fried okra, made chicken salad. Invited Patsy (neighbor here) to dinner but she had gone to late lunch with her sister so did not want to eat. She did visit and took some back with her. Chicken salad wasn't as good, I made the mistake of adding a little too much olive, sure hope she likes olives!
Need to dress and force myself to walk. Didn't walkt he last three days and sure having a hard time convincing Self that we can do this.
Good morning!
Off to the dermatologist this morning then hitting the noonday sun doing some geocaching. Now to find some that will attract Thomas' interest as well as take me down a back road or two without driving to Kingdomcome.
Thanks for the donaqtion, Zora...back to back hollow legs does take a bit of cash...whew. I did get out with a week's worth for $241. Never spent that in my life. But when I think about it I am doubling recipes, using two pounds of hamburger, two packages of chicken breast, and we won't even go into the milk situation. Thomas went with me and he only conned me out of a box of Twinkies (thught that was pretty good on both our parts!)
Guess I best start downloading caches before I start dispensing cereal and juice.
Hugs and prayers to each of you because YOU are loved!
Nuthin' to report yet. I have no idea what I will do! My place in Fla. escaped damage, I am told, and I am so glad I had the new roof put on in May. One family in the park lost their roof and there was debris all over - my next door neighbor sent me pics. I guess the lakes filled up, too - they were really low.
My friend goes to the thoracic surgeon today to see how the new meds are working. He had only 50% breath intake and the nurse said there is concern if he will have enuf lungs left to live after the surgery, yet he must have the cancer removed. He is almost 71. The prognosis doesn't look rosy. He has COPD and Diabetes and high chloesterol(sp?) to complicate things. He doesn't seem as worried as we do. On this cheerful note I will sign off! NanB
My neck of the woods escaped the continued rain but we have erosion damage at the beach. We were lucky here. Called one of my BFFs and he said they were fine...well, that was Sun evening. He, his DW and 91 yr old DMother live near St Petersburg...I need to call again and check on them. I need to call my cousin who lives around Tampa, too. Sure wish Debbie would move on out to the ocean...she keeps stalling...geez....
Zora, flounder is delish! Baked or fried is just wonderful. marinate in a little milk, garlic, S & P, drain and bake with some butter...OMG!!!
Margaret, guess I can forego the ark for now!!
Mabel, waving to you...don't want to disturb your reading....
Egee, glad you had a good visit. Sounds like you are running a mini hotel there...it is lovely there and your place is warm and inviting. I am ready to come back up but we have things we have to do...*pouting*
Rosie, when do you get to rest?? It's *nice* having visitors but then it's nice to have your domain back!!
NanB, I was wondering how your FL place did...glad you didn't have damage. Your friend might be scared but doesn't want to worry his wife...everyone deals with stuff differently. Good luck to him. You are a good friend to him & his wife.
Waving to all...later...
Good morning ladies, Nice morning in my neighborhood, sunny and cool. I am sure it won't stay that way long. Well, my Gamecocks lost. Was a good game and Arizona had an awesome team. There is always another year.
Zora - I use butter and lemon pepper when I broil flounder. Haven't had any in a while. I can celebrate Catfish Day with no problems. Hope the guy at the NH can "de-hex" your computer. I was like you I was not going to put any more money in the old laptop.
Margaret - Those Goddaughter's keep you hopping. I'm sure they bring a lot of pleasure to your life.
Mabel - I think the way things are grown now takes a lot of the flavor out.
Edgee - You are beginning to sound like Rosie with all the company. I do love having people around. I've never put olives in chicken salad. Will have to give it a try.
Rosie - Haven't been "hunting" in a while. Drew was my hunting buddy and he is to busy to go any more. Don't like to go by myself, some are in out of the way places. Is Thomas losing his touch?
NancyB - So glad to hear you had no damage to the Fla. place. So sorry to hear the latest on your friend. Seems as if it is a no win situation for him. Will continue to keep him in my prayers.
Cilla - Glad to know things are good with you. Haven't talked to the kids so not sure how things are going there. Will have to try flounder with the marinade. Sounds yummy. Any coin shows anywhere near me? Let me know when you do and if at all possible I will drop in for a visit.
Need to get up and get going. Don't know why, I have no plans for the day. Will go somewhere and get lunch. As I said my cupboards are bare. Very bare. See you later.
Hugs, love, and prayers for all.
Brenda
Zora: I sure hope that man can find and fix your computer problems..........Yes, I sure did pig out on the catfish we had on Sunday. Wish I knew how he prepared it! If I ever get a chance, I am going to ask him.
Margaret: You didn't mention rain today so hopefully you will have a nice sports day.
Mabel: I love to look through the Amish Cookbook. They have some really neat recipes.
Egee: Wow, you have certainly had the company since your move! I would have really enjoyed that lunch as I like green beans and love fried okra. In fact, DD and I just finished up a dish of okra last evening.
Rose: Since I only go shopping once or twice a month, that is about what I spend each time. We have to stock up since we do live so far from a grocery store so I wait for their sales, between normal paydays, and go stock up then. I usually have my little SUV full of stuff from the grocery store and Walmart when I get home and then have to unload and put away what has to be put in the freezer or refrigerator. The rest usually waits until the next day!
NanB: So glad your place didn't get any damage. I am happy that I have a metal roof also...........Your friend, at his age, is probably ready to meet his Maker and that is why he is cheerful. May we all be that way when it is time!
Cilla: Oh, I wish we could get a bit of that rain - but not the damage! Because of all the fires, and the amount of territory that has been burned, they are concerned about flooding when it does rain. Being raised in N.M., I have always noticed that it usually doesn't start raining until July 4th. I always laid it to the firecrackers they used to shoot but, now, we never know when it is going to rain. Just sometime during July or August.
Brenda: No, I haven't been able to be constant on the board for the last week or so and missed the sweet gum ball posting. I will have to look for it.
Penny: Grab a tissue! I replanted my green beans this morning. LOL! Yep, I was out there by 6:30 planting and, by the time I came in at 7:30, it was already getting hot. I plan to soak okra seeds overnight Wed. night and plant them on Thurs. morning. I do have new lettuce coming up now so I sure hope that rabbit repellent keeps working. It says it will last for 3 months. It sure does stink and should keep anything away! I had to change clothes after I sprayed it on the fence and my organic beds. Ranger didn't want anything to do with me until I had done that.
Got a call yesterday and we are going to have a surprise party for the pastor's wife at 5 p.m. Wed., before our choir practice. Only finger foods as none of the choir wants to eat heavy before singing! So, I think I will make a cheese ball and crackers. The surprise party is to thank her for all the hard work she does in leading and directing the VBS.
I hear DD getting up and need to tell her something before she goes to the barn so toodle-oo for now.
AnnB
I
Good morning friends.
I was concerned about my friends in the line of those terrible storms so I'm stopping by to see how everyone's property made it.
Good news to see that all is well with you.
My mom, who lost one home to a fire, was watching the news and said, "I think I would rather loose my home to a fire than THAT way."
Kind of took me back and caught me off guard. Had to ask why she would say that.
Her reason....."Less to clean up."
I chuckled at the thought process. I guess she might be right. At least when you loose it in a fire it's all gone at once. 'sigh'
Personally I wished no one had to deal with such things.
Update on my mother. She came home and is doing pretty dog-gone good as far as I'm concerned. Minor miracle and answer to prayers.
I've put on my nurses cap, cleaning lady cap, cook hat and gardener visor and away we go. 'grin'
I am NOT good at looking at wounds and have some U G L Y mess to take care of several times a day.
BRENDA~~I like the butter/lemon-pepper on fish also. Ummm, makes me hungry thinkin' about it.
Kind of takes the joy out of things whent he kiddos grow up and you loose your buddy. He is a great kid and loves his Gramma very much. Shows in many ways.
EGEE~~Never tried olives in chicken salad either. I'm guessing that they are green olives???
I tell my hubby that I'll have to put sports channels on just to have that "same-ol" if he goes before me. Hugs friend.
CILLA~~Those storms are crazy-scary. I hope all is well with your family.
Between them and the wild fires this year I keep my eyes on the updates on tv and online. My son and his family are not too far from this latest fire in Colorado. He works up in the mountains and has had jobs canceled. When we were there we were in that town that is evacuated and burning. Beautiful country and it breaks my heart.
Oh NANCY B~~I am sooooo sorry to hear about your friends prognosis. That's a lot of other health problems to be dealing with on top of it all.
ROSIE~~Wishing you the bestest of outcomes on your trip to the doc today.
Have a great time Geocaching. Those kiddos can sure put a dent in the grocery store, can't they? I suppose Thomas didn't need to beg for anything else since he is probably already being fed way better than any room service.
I got a taste of your hospitality and it rocks!
MABEL~~Is that book pick up place run through the Senior Center? What a great way to get them. We have such a great bunch of ladies to trake books with here. That and the library keep us stocked.
MARGARET~~Have a friend who has things hooked up through his tv and runs music videos and everything through it.
Sounds like your doing things with "gusto" (as MEL would say). Have a good time.
ZORA~~I pack hubbies lunch too. Been doing it since we got married also.
He used to get more love notes. That reminds me that I should do that again. 'grin'
I can 'do' Catfish Day since I found out how to properly prepare it from KYANN, who used to be a part of this group.
Well, I have two banana breads cooling. One GF and one regular (ROSIE) one.
Both smell wonderful and I'm waiting not-so-patiently to cut into mine.
ANN B~~I have looked all over for the "Shake Away" for chipmunks and rabbits. I need to get to a bigger town to scope it out.
I sure hope this planting of green beans makes it and more than makes up for the delay.
We need rain SO bad. It is bone dry here and nothing really in the forcast. Been watering at our place and my moms as much as I can but it's just not the same. Lost several flowers already. They just can't take it.
Well, I need to quit yacking and get over to my mom's and then get groceries for both of us. Talk to you all later.
Be good and if you can't be good, be careful
Tippy
I went out and watered everything and pulled out a bunch of weeds. Then I picked peaches, came in the house to rest my back, then went out to take peaches next door to leave on their steps as I don't climb steps without a rail. I boiled some eggs in my handy-dandy electric cooker, and have my salad ready for lunch in an hour. Tippy, some of that banana bread would go well with the salad but of course I wouldn't hint. Nancy B
Morning
Had to take Angel to the groomers this morning so was out fairly early today. Think it will be an early day tomorrow as well since we'll be getting into the 90's but then on Thurs we are expected to reach the triple digit mark, something they say hasn't happened around here in June for over 30 yrs. So I think I'll be heading out to fill the "pantry" before the heat rolls in again.
Zora the middle of April when dh retired is the first time in our married lives that I haven't gotten up with him and packed him a lunch for work. For awhile out of habit I'd get up and find myself heading for the fridge to get his lunch ready. LOL
Rosie enjoy your outing today. That sounds like it would be very interesting.
NanB glad things are fine in Fl at your place.
Cilla nice you didn't get all the rain but so sad about the beach erosions. Certainly hope that "Debby" decides to blow herself out real soon.
Morning Brenda. I'm sure you and Abby will find something interesting to do today.
Tippy YaaaaHoooo!! So glad to read Mama Tippy is home. We all do a whole lot better in our own homes then in the hospital where they "conspire" to make sure you don't get any rest. Wouldn't Medicare allow her to have a nurse come in and change the dressings for her.
Mel I'm sure you are on your way back to OK by now. Sending safe travel thoughts your way.
Beverly your Maxine yesterday was oh so true. My gkids mumble and grumble when they are at their dad's because he says NO tv, outside plenty to do and fresh air. They have gotten now where they actually like being outside and can find things to do. Hope the arm is healing well.
Ann hope your knee is feeling better. I see where you said your db is doing pretty good in his new place, that's a good sign.
NancyZ prepare yourself, if we're going to be hot here I'm sure the heat and humidity will be even worse at DD's. I'm such a great bearer of good news LOL. I heard the weatherman say last night that if we hit 100 on Thursday it will be the first time in 30 yrs that it's happened in June. Ugh. Can not imagine what July will be like as that is usually one of the worse months here for us.
Penny congrats again. Hopefully by next ww you will have reached your goal and you can celebrate with another piece of fudge.
Need to get a load of clothes in the washer. Dh took the car when I got back and went to the car wash and cleaned it up for me. Said he missed his "sidekick" going with him and now not looking out the door watching him dry it off. It certainly is awfully quiet here as well. She should be ready soon and then the normal routine will be back to "normal". LOL
Have a good day.
Nan
Olives in chicken salad = just don't put many in case you or others don't like them. I also put them in potato and macaroni salads but I love olives. These were the green but I can just sit and eat either kind.
Yep, this is about right:
Good afternoon to everyone, the last nice day this week, windows still open & nice breeze coming through, AC will be back on tomorrow, 90's coming in....yuck!
Zora.....I'm not a big fish lover, so can't help you out with the seasonings. Sure do hope the guy at work can help with the computer, very frustrating.
Margaret....hmmm, don't know how they do it when you reach your goal, guess I'll find out.
Mabel.....oh for sure, that was the best piece of fudge I've ever had.....better not make a habit of it.
Egee.....now the chicken salad sounds good, but hold the olives for me, I'm not a fan of the green ones, do like the black ones on pizza. Cute picture & oh so true.
Rosie....Ha, only a box of Twinkies, I'd say you did pretty good. After Miss A left Sunday, DH wanted to know if I had given her the checkbook to the house.....LOL!
NancyB....good thoughts for your friend.
Cilla....there you are, I had missed seeing you.
Brenda....well darn, your boys got beat, like you said, there's always next year.
AnnB....Ha, thought about you last night, my sweet neighbor called, I asked her what she was doing, she was snapping green beans. Well, I'll wish the best for you with this batch....LOL!
Tippy....so glad to know Mom is home, sure hope she gets along ok....don't forget to take some time for Tippy too.
Nan....oh yes, another piece of fudge would be great, just can't eat it all the time like I'd like to.
DH went for therapy this morning, now here's a big surprise.....therapist told him to stop doing so much....of course he'll listen to that guy, I smugly told him "I told you so".....just times when it won't stay shut....LOL!
Think I'll fix some roasted vegetables for dinner this evening, sounds really good, also have cabbage ready in the garden.
Hope everyone is having a great day, see you later.
